MODO Fruit & Tea House

I had a good experience here, bubble tea was good takoyaki was perfect and sweet potato balls were a first for me but i really enjoyed them, most of the food is finger food, your given tooth picks to help you eat some foods, If you go REMEMBER this PUSH the bell button that you can find at the edge of your table to call the waiter once you have chosen what you wanted or you may sit there awhile, it didnt take me long to figure out what it was, there is asian characters on it with no English translation, but if you push it someone will come running, also there are magazines you can read, and games you can play, and they have wifi and plugs under the table.

I come here to study because it’s usually quiet, comfortable and usually empty.
Of course, I make a purchase every time so I’ve tried just about every drink on the menu.
The place is now Easy Drink Easy Go but it’s the exact same thing. Nice ambience, friendly staff, good place to study, and absolutely TERRIBLE drinks.
I have never had a good BBT here, the flavours are all bland, flavourless and poorly made. You name it, original, matcha, chocolate, banana, honeydew, I could go on. Smoothie, snow cap, they all suck.
Don’t come here looking for a good drink or food, order a small drink while you get zoned in on work for a couple hours with no distractions.

This place has great desserts and finger food, all reasonably priced. Seating is maximized so coming with a mid to large group shouldn’t be a problem. The main issue here is slow service since we were one of two tables in the mid afternoon it took about 40 minutes to be served. The near flavorless teas/​beverages does this place no favors so skip the coffee or tea, and get something sweet.

I came about 1 yr ago with my friend. It was my friends second time coming here and she was excited to bring me because she had bought a coupon online that would save us $ 15 off. However the waiters had some kind of misunderstanding because my friend bought 2 coupons online. So just to let you know these reataurants or stores have a print out of the list of names that bought the coupon online. Her name was on the list twice because she bought twice. So on her first visit the waiter crossed off both her name off the list. So finally on her second time around the waiter says shes already been crossed off the list. The waiter did not consider the fact that the first waiter might of made a mistake and would not even give us atleast a discount. They did not even have a manager on the floor that we can talk to. So if u have a coupon or w.e. make sure you buy seperately because these guys will not make any consideration. Instead of saving money my friend actually spent more because of a stupid mistake.

Really wanted this place to get back to what it was when it first opened. … The portions are ridiculously tiny… The once large is no a tiny cup… There is not even a spoonful of tapioca… bland…lazy and rude customer service… sigh…I used to love this place… Now I only come because nothing else in the area…

I had perhaps the blandest boba milk tea I’ve ever had here. No wonder they had it on take-​out special ($ 1.99/small, $ 2.99/large). The boba was totally flavorless… some places marinate them a bit. The milk tea itself was also shockingly flavorless. I mean it had the right color, but I could taste neither milk, nor tea, nor sugar. I wonder if it comes from some weird powder?
The girls (OK, young women that looked about 14) that were working behind the counter were quite friendly once I said something in Chinese. They’re always amused by a laowei that can manage something.
The décor looks kind of nice inside… nice wood. Rather dark.
Overall, I’d like my boba tea to taste like something. I don’t think I’ll be back.

We got to the restaurant at 1:30 and we got our food at 2:30. We asked them why it took so long and they said that they had just opened and that it was really busy… There was only one other couple there and I’m pretty sure they didn’t just open. We ordered their «famous» fried chicken, the mango sago, and two of their most expensive desserts — the waffles and the brick toast. The food was overall just really mediocre and their selection of games was really poor. It was far too dark to even play and the atmosphere was just really odd, no music was playing and the place felt kind of deserted. I guess if you go later in the night it would be more lively, but I still don’t think I’ll be coming back anytime soon.

Unfortunately this place has been going steadily down hill these days
First, praise for what’s good. I really like the décor. It’s cozy, dark and modern. Washrooms continue with this theme.
Now praise for what used to be good. They had a great afternoon high tea deal. Buy a snack and a drink and get free refills on your drink. This had me sitting there happily a few times ordering popcorn chicken (which was not bad) and working away with free refills all afternoon. Sadly, this deal is gone. (maybe they were losing money on it Who knows) But value for the customer suddenly shrank without this deal.
Now for present day. Service is sorely lacking as seen from other reviews. I actually showed up one afternoon right at 12pm when they opened. Saw a few teens standing outside smoking. I walked passed them and as I opened the door one of them blurted out «OH $hit». As I walked in they all followed me in and then I find out they’re the actual crew of the store! Disappointed that they had to get to work I guess?
They have bells at each table. Would be great if it they worked. I rang mine several times and no response. When I went to pay, I saw there was a LED at the front counter showing the table number that rang a bell. Sadly no one obviously looks at it and if there was an audible beep with the LED it was too quiet to be heard over the music anyways.
They changed their business hours a couple times. Just found out this week when trying to pay them a visit and saw that they changed their hours to start at 1pm weekdays. Then, today I tried again after 1 only to find out their hours changed again to start at 3pm!
There was a lot of enthusiasm and effort that came with the launch of this place as evident from the Facebook page and their initial menu offerings and specials were great. However, the sad typical story of another restaurant’s inevitable slide down the hill as time goes by seems to be playing out all too well.
But I like seeing a come back. Turn things around Modo, and you will get another review from me.

Very poor service… Low quality drinks and food. Decoration is nice but either than that satisfactory

It’s an amazing place! I’ve been going there pretty consistently for the past few weeks. There’s a discount card you can buy for $ 10, giving you 10% off. Although the backside has some strange text that is unusable.
Service: Very nice people, and very friendly. Orders are occasionally mistaken, but they always work hard to make up for it. One time I went with a large group, and I think a few people forgot to pay for a dish or two, they were about to let it slide… but I caught it and paid for it.
Food: They have both desserts, snack food, and small meals. So if you go out with friends late at night, they’ll still have food for everybody. For the person who didn’t eat yet they have some nice combos with food (rice, noodles, etc.). For the person who’s looking for something fancy, they have a nice variety of desserts. Ranging from waffles, brick toast, and mousse cakes. I haven’t tried all of them yet, but their mango mousse and brick toast are quite good.
Bubble Tea/​Drinks: Most of them have been pretty average from what I’ve experienced. Nothing ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. But all of the drinks I’ve tried have been quite good. I typically drink the flavored black/​green tea (I avoid milk tea). But yeah it’s great.
Lastly… ALL YOU CAN DRINK BUBBLE TEA! What other place has that???
Edit: They removed the all you can drink, but have ½ price refills… Ehh… Still not bad… but I’m sad…

A group of us decided to grab some drinks after dinner on a Sunday night. We sat on the patio and split a bottle of wine. From the outside, we could still faintly hear the music from the inside, so it made for a relaxing atmosphere. Service is great and the patio is just quiet enough to enjoy some drinks and good conversation!

The food and drinks itself is nothing special really. Just the same old bubble tea and the original milk tea lacks taste and for sure I have tasted better.
I also tried the condensed milk toast and it was not as good as I expected to be. I have tasted much better brick toast.
As well for entertainment, they do have cards but when I went it was the most messy shelf I have seen. The deck of cards were all over the place, mixed together with probably over 150 cards.

Not really much to rave about, just a really great place to do homework/​lounge/​chit chat with friends/​play games. The food here is alright… we had chicken wings and they were so small and too salty. Fries were ok… i wouldn’t order food from here again. Drinks are ok as well… nothing amazing. If you plan to stay a long time i recommend getting the high tea special for 11.95 that gets you unlimited refills. I have had their dessert before and the ice cream had freezer burn… it wasn’t worth it.

I walk past this place all the time when I’m walking back from work. I haven’t ever eaten here, but I very regularly get their «take out» boba special — a medium boba milk tea for 1.99 if you order it to go.
The milk tea is fairly bland and watery, and it has a very light tea taste to it. The boba is ok. Unlike a lot of other places, the milk tea is shaken, so it comes pretty frothy, which I kind of like. Overall, not exactly quality milk tea, but great for an afternoon pick me up, especially when you’re exhausted, it’s humid and hot, and you’ve got to walk home from work in a suit.
The staff is very friendly — they seem to make a lot of mistakes, but they always catch them and make it up for you. Case in point, somewhat frequently they take my order and are halfway done with my drink only to come back to inform me that they are out of boba, but they always let me pick mango jelly, and upgrade my drink to a large for free.

My review is based only on the original milk tea with tapioca — IT NEEDS WORK!
I hate giving bad reviews but as a tea house, I think they need to work on getting the basics right. The tea was not very flavourful and the tapioca was not cooked properly or it sat for too long as some were hard in the centers and it wasn’t as chewy as it could have been. I will give them a star for adjusting the sugar (asked for half sugar), but now many tea houses are doing this. And the décor was very modern so even tho’ I got take out, I can see it would be a nice place to hang out; another star for that.
Paid $ 5 for my drink which is way overpriced for what I got… definitely Ten Ren’s, Cha Time, Latte Mei have this place beat by a lot… and 168’s are also better in taste and is half the price for a take out original milk tea at some locations.
Their menu is lengthy in the dessert department so maybe that is where they shine. If I was in Chinatown again and was looking for dessert, I’d give this place another chance, but for bubble tea, probably not.

i was pleasantly surprised when stepping inside. sleek décor in this narrow space.
there’s a good selection of drinks, snacks, desserts and meal combos, they offer a membership (good for 3yrs) for $ 20 entitles you to drink upgrades.
i ordered the crispy chicken (aka popcorn) — which wasn’t too greasy, (the basket lined with wax paper didn’t soak through)
and a milk tea with mini rose buds — apparently rose buds are good for your skin, a good pairing to counter the effects of the fried chicken: O. the drink was kind of watery though. i prefer a more fuller bodied tea.
what’s different — the eastern hot dessert soup selections. i’ll try another time.
service — was good. food and drinks didn’t take long to arrive and the waitress was available whenever we needed. it wasn’t too busy on a Tuesday night
MODO’s makes a good addition to the bubble tea shops downtown.

Ok place, must admit that I’ve been to better. Had the original milk bubble tea and believe that I’ve had better elsewhere. Again there are board games, but primarily cards if I remember right. There is also a very limited option for bubble tea, so more menu choices would have been nice. I did find the décor really pleasing though. This would be a pretty ideal place to take a date to after dinner or something, as the ambiance would be pretty romantic at night time. Plus they have a lot of dessert+ bubble tea combos, which would probably be really nice after dinner.

I stopped by Modo on a cold night when trying to show the wonders of Chinatown to some visiting friends.
Modo has a slick, modern décor, and is pretty well maintained for a tea shop so close to Dundas/​Spadina! In particular I felt that the service was quite friendly and efficient. There are quite a few boardgames available on site, and the menu offers both teas and snacks at reasonable prices.
The tea list is pretty brief compared to similar establishments, but that may be a good thing as I’m always struggling to decide between 100 flavours!
The milk oolong and Rose tea at Modo are both fine grade teas and definitely recommended.

I have no idea how this place is going to survive…
The setting and atmosphere are on the cozy side, but the menu remains limited and sorry, but the supposedly original yoghourt and fruit dishes are just disappointing.
Waitress are (too) nice and when I went there, there were 2 customers for 6 staffs! thus of course, customers are really watched after… perhaps too much… Despite this imbalanced ratio, it took so long to get my orders, only one after the other (not mentioning that 5 minutes after ordering, the waitress came back to tell me that they were out of of the cheesecake).
Increase the length of the menu, speed up the service, increase the orginality touch.

I tried the MODO milk tea.
It smells great! So good that i thought they added some aroma enhancer (is there such a thing?)
It turns out they added a lot of citrus peel to the tea.
They also sell snacks, or lunch rice combo too. (Will try it out next time)
Their focus is on fresh fruit, plus they will uses high quality ingredient to create a better drinks and desserts, hopefully to give Chinatown a «fresh» look at anything fruity.
