First time in Toronto, first time visiting the Eaton Centre and while I was planning my trip, I heard only good things about this place– boy were people right!
This is a quality store that offers an amazing variety of pants with an equally dedicated team of employees.
Jean Machine is the ultimate denim destination. Despite it being a small shop, they carry many brands in every wash and size you could ask for. If it’s not on the shelf, they have it in the back. You just need to walk in and vaguely point at a brand or shade of pant you like and the sales associate will whisk you away in the cabins and bring you the selection you didn’t even know you wanted.
I was specifically looking for the brand Yoga Jeans and found out Jean Machine carries THE best and widest selection in Toronto. Yoga Jeans are actually made in Montréal but I had a harder time finding them in my hometown, plus they’re cheaper in TO! I highly recommend Yoga Jeans for a fit that flatters, they have high to low wasted jeans, in stretchy fabrics that don’t lose their shape. If you’re a tall girl like me, you’ll be happy to know many of their pants have a 34 inch inseam!
They had a discount of 20% off a second item when I went too.

I’ve never had such a good experience at a clothing store. I walked in because I had a $ 10 of $ 30 gift card, and I wasn’t really planning to buy anything (was just going to look around). One of the sales associates approached me to ask if I needed any help. I rejected at first, but then he approached me a second time to give me a recommendation for skinny jeans since that’s what I was lookin at. He eventually got me a change room to try on 2 pairs, and asked another assoc. to take care of me.
I believe her name was May Grace. She was awesome. She wasn’t trying to do a sales pitch or anything, but she made some really good recommendations for me. I was unsure about going down to a size 24 because I don’t like super fitted jeans (my leg fat fluctuates haha), but she was being really down to earth about it, showing me how much extra fabric there was and all that jazz. She gave me 2 cute tops to try on, too, so I could visualize the jeans better. She felt like an honest shopping buddy, and she made me smile the whole time (I was shopping by myself). So yes, I did end up purchasing a pair of jeans, and even the top she recommended. The thing I was a little disappointed about is that the jeans I bought are $ 15 cheaper on their website (just checked today), so I didn’t really ‘save’ that much.
Oh well.

They have a good selection of moderately priced denim (Silver, Mavi, Dish). The sales associates can be a little pushy, but they really do know their stuff — they can tell you about different washes, weaves, darting, etc. I ended up buying a pair of Canadian-​made jeans that I’m very happy with. The fit isn’t as perfect as my DL1961s, but they were about half the price.

One word: James.
So the story goes like this: I need jeans, I walk into a Jean Machine in the Eaton Centre and a guy asks if he can help me. I think «probably not because you don’t understand how things cling to women in the wrong ways but…»
…and… [excess ellipses intentional] My mind glimpsed through a memory of knowing him. I felt like we’d had this conversation before. I FELT our missed connection being resolved. He was… JAMES from Jean Machine Pen Centre, St. Catharines. This man had picked out my pants before. I trust and like him. James is special. James knows the SKU numbers from the OLD silver TONIs that they don’t make anymore. James hoards new old-​stock Silvers for me. James loves picking out women’s clothing. (I’m sure he is knowledgeable in mens clothes too).
The BEST:

The good:
— They have the full line of Silver jeans. Every style, every colour. Even old ones sometimes.
— You can go in here and say I want jeans in [style] and [colour] and they will bring you everything they have.
The bad:
— There is nothing bad about this store. Sometimes the music is bad.
— The «tops» aren’t in the style of me.
I will ALWAYS go here for jeans for as long as James works with the company. I cannot tell you how thrilled I am that he is in Toronto now. I have been through 3 Jean Machine locations with this guy; we move in parallel.

As a woman, is there anything more frustrating and humiliating than shopping for jeans? The answer is no. Those that know me know I’m not a patient person so something like sifting through racks of practically free jeans at Winners or piles of discounted denim at Bootlegger is maddening and entirely unappealing.

Like Mel D has said, you essentially walk in, shout out your size and fit preference as you saunter towards the fitting rooms and then wait to be handed pair after pair of fancy denim. There is no work required on your part. If the salesperson hands you a pair of jeans with no rivet detailing and you want rivets and rhinestones, say so, and pairs will magically appear on the changeroom partition.
They carry one of my all-​time favourite brands from Japan called Domino and offer discounts on multiple pairs. Returns, if necessary, are a breeze. Dunno if these folks work on commission but if they do, they damn well deserve every penny, cause they work hard to make my ass look good.

I love this place. For a girl who rarely shops and who lives in jeans and t-​shirts, this place is a godsent. I can literally just walk into this store, declare that «I NEED JEANS», and then walk straight into the change room while they gather clothes for me to try on. I don’t feel like they pressure me to buy the clothes that they suggest, which is great.
It’s an expensive store — and average of $ 40 for a top, and $ 100 for jeans BUT, they ALWAYS give «Good Customer» discounts for $ 15-​$ 20-​$ 30 off, and a discount to get any alterations that you need.
Don’t be fooled — this review is for this store only. I’ve tried declaring «I NEED JEANS» in other Jean Machines — they just look at me funny.
One star removed because of the location — Eaton Centre. This mall is hell. [Edited — I can’t blame the location of this store — the service is just sooo good.]
