We had just moved to Toronto a week earlier and were damn sick of eating and typing standing up at the kitchen counter. For a week we’d been searching Queen Street for a small table and chairs that we could lug home immediately. We’d almost given up and punted to something Ikea-ugly-particleboard-gross. Then we went into Inabstracto. Kate didn’t balk or get offended when we told her that the tables she had on display were too expensive for us and too big for our space. She took us all over her little store – including down in the basement – to show us pieces that fit our needs. We got two gorgeous and inexpensive designer-made chairs from the 60s and a teak table in the perfect size. A half hour later we’d cabbed them home and were able to eat sitting down like actual human beings. Most of Kate’s stock is mid-century modern. That’s not usually my idea of pretty but I have to admit that a lot of it is in simple classic lines and there’s nothing wrong with that. I’ll keep coming back to Inabstracto to see what’s new.

Nice art gallery-slash-furniture store. Most of the furniture errs on the«mid century modern» side — Eames chairs, and whatnot. If you’re a fan of Freitag brand bags, they have a nice selection, including laptop sleeves and wallets.
