I don’t work too far from this place and I love authentic Chinese food, so you can imagine that I’ve had my eye on this place for quite a while. Tucked away in the corner of a dilapidated strip mall with an atrocious parking arrangement Hua Xing is a little tough to find. Once you get your bearings and make your way through the doors the average person might be a little off-put by the dingy take-out shoebox, but believe me when I tell you the Chinese BBQ here is legit. The dim lighting and lack of fire suppression just adds to the authenticity. I tried a 3 meat combo on rice with roast pork, bbq pork and roast duck. That was some of the crispest roast pork skin I’ve ever had, the BBQ pork was flavourful and the duck was tasty but not too oily. For a quick lunch option I’ll definitely be returning.

I just moved to the Weston area and was dismayed to find a complete lack of authentic Chinese restaurants, especially the Cantonese types that sell BBQ meats and proudly display them in the window for the world to see. Passed by this tiny little takeout store several times before deciding to give it a try and boy, am I glad I did. I think I’ve finally found a decent Chinese BBQ place! They’re pretty basic, BBQ meats are pretty much the only things they sell, but they do it pretty well. I ordered 3 kinds of meat on rice(roast pork, BBQ duck and soy sauce chicken). Everything was tasty, although the chicken could be a tad less sweet. However, the duck was really, really good! I’ll definitely going back sometime soon to get half a duck($ 9) for takeout.
