This place is the closest hardware store to where I work and for household items or tools here and there, I can usually find what I am looking for. I think the only time that they didn’t have something occurred during the recent ice storm and they pretty much ran out of useful flashlights and portable lighting devices. In addition to being pretty well stocked, they have plenty of staff on hand waiting to help customers with questions they may have. I’m not sure if it’s because the space is smaller or if they have a customer service policy but you’re more likely to be approached with assistance here than at any Canadian Tire location. Something that’s happened to me on more than one occasion had to do with product pricing. Maybe they don’t advertise their sales or have sale tags by their sale items but I’ve recalled having items scan at a lower price than what they posted at the display. I’m not one to complain about that. With competition seemingly fierce among the Home Improvement and Hardware chains(i.e. Canadian Tire, Rona, Home Depot, Lowe’s), I’m hoping that Home Hardware keeps it’s niche and survives.

I came here because it’s convenient but I’m just going to make the trek to Home Depot or Rona instead. It’s overpriced as R.H. said, by about 20% on everything, it’s TINY, and the customer service leaves a lot to be desired. They don’t take anything back even if it’s defective, and they’re pretty effing rude to you even if you are asking a question on something the answers are: «I don’t know.» «What you see there is what we have.» «No, there’s no other stock.» Seriously? You’re out of stock on something that I want, but you won’t remove the tags to show that you no longer want to carry the product? That’s just bad business. I’d rather take the trek to Canadian Tire, Home Depot, Rona, or any damn hardware store place instead of coming here, because there, at least they understand the importance of customer SERVICE. They also yell at you and make you feel like crap in the store, INFRONTOFOTHERCUSTOMERS. I saw a man trying to return something and they were just whaling on him and he was getting frustrated too, which didn’t add to the ambience of this tiny, overpriced store filled with Made in China crap. Here, their store policies are also outdated. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, SHAMEONME. They’re going to close down in about 5 – 10 years I reckon, considering that they won’t change with the times and have pretty steep rents to pay. At least at other big box hardware stores they know that if you say«satisfaction guaranteed», you’re supposed to mean it.

Well-stocked and deceptively large — they pack a lot of stuff into the main floor and basement. Staff here are very helpful and won’t hesitate to search around the store, look up stuff online or explain differences between different brands or varieties to help you. The service here is very hands-on — if you come in they’ll ask you what you’re looking for and immediately tell you whether or not they have it and will lead you to it immediately if it is in stock, so this is not the kind of store you peruse at your leisure. This is the place to go if you know what you want, and want to buy it immediately.
