Holy Trinity Church

Holy Trinity Church is an Anglican Church (thumbs up) with a social justice mandate (double thumbs up) crammed into part of Trinity Square which is that awkward little spot behind the Eaton Centre.
If you get a chance to go to an event here, you won’t be disappointed! The acoustics and sight lines of the stage are excellent. I was lucky enough to go to a Panter’s Pub event in the chapel which is DIY meaning you can donate for the cause by stuffing some cash into a jar and then enjoy the party (pay what you can).
With all the feelgoodness of a Winnipeg Social, Panter’s Pub was ready to get the party started with a warm and friendly host and crowd as well. And what would you think if you had an open bar with home made punch, Corona’s on ice, craft beers, and snacks too? You would think you’re in heaven, just like me!

We found this place after deciding to walk around aimlessly because the weather had finally taken a turn for the better. This neat little church and rectory are tucked in behind the Toronto Eaton Centre accompanied by a small park with a meditation labyrinth. While we didn’t go inside the church itself, it is a neat seeing how it is so close to the Eaton Centre, in some places I’d say there is less than a foot of space between the two buildings! Perhaps this the Eaton Centre’s best kept secret?

I was walking in the Eaton Centre last Sunday and this was the first time that I had noticed Trinity Square (including this Anglican church) which is located right up against the mall (on the opposite side from Yonge). The square also includes a few separate buildings, a café, and a labyrinth path.
What an interesting juxtaposition between spiritual solitude and capitalist worship! I very much enjoyed the tranquility of this old brick complex and the break from any further shopping for the day.
