Holiday Inn Toronto Bloor-Yorkville

Stayed here with my boyfriend while visiting friends in the city. To be honest I expected more for the price I paid. I wasn’t expecting to find it exactly like the Holiday Inns I stayed in with my parents when I was young.
Power bars had been added to the room in a few spots. It was great to have the space to plug in our many electronics to charge without having to hunt for an outlet but it looks like they bought them in bulk from Honests Eds down the street. And there was no attempt to make them look nice.
We stayed in a room with a queen bed, but there was only 1 bedside table? Not very convenient for two people, I had to put my stuff on the floor beside the bed.
Our room was towards the back of the hotel, overlooking the alleyway, and it was wonderfully quiet, which we were concerned about given it was Halloween weekend in a busy university area.
All in all, I guess we got exactly what we were expecting, given it is one of the cheapest chain hotels in downtown Toronto. We just hoped for more.

I honestly liked this hotel. I booked the hotel before I saw the reviews, and I got quite scared when I saw all the crappy reviews. I got there and it was actually really nice. The room was spacious and clean, the air conditioning worked fine in my room without me having to complain, and staff was nice, unlike all these nitpicky reviewers have said. It’s in a great spot to hit all the cool stuff in downtown core and close enough to St George and Spadina stations to take either Line 1 or Line 2 down to whatever else you want to see, like the CN Tower.
Now, the reason I gave this four stars was because I did have one problem with this hotel, and that’s the selection of employees there is pretty lackluster. I never dealt with the morning or afternoon crew, but the evening crew is the one that had some problems. I can recall four employees that I saw working the evening shift, and each of them had something going for them. One of them was almost completely deaf and this got in the way of them dealing with customers, both in person and on the phone. One was most likely foreign and hardly spoke English, yet was usually the main one in the lobby. One was also probably foreign, spoke great English, but the accent was so thick, it was hard to understand what they were saying. The last one I only saw once in my five days of being there, and they actually didn’t have anything interfering with them communicating, which sucked, because they would have been great to deal with the other four nights when we would go down with questions.
All in all, ignore the whiny reviews. This hotel is great and I would go back again.

Nice hotel, kind aclose to everything. People very friendly, service was good. Only thing they didnt do was communicate to the overnight crew about my car reservation.
Decent gym in the basement, nice little poutine café in the front.
Parking is $ 22 CAD per day

BEWARE
If you book this place with Priceline they will advertise free parking but of course they will charge you for parking when you check-​in

Very grateful to the staff of this hotel. They are extremely honest and trustworthy. I left something of great value (gold ring) in my room when I checked out. When I called the next day, they had it in Lost and Found and returned it to me.
The front desk staff were very courteous and helpful.
Kudos to the staff for their professionalism.

I’m a business person who spends 45 to 60 night away from home a year, and I’ve covered every province and territory in Canada, and 29 of the 50 U.S. states. I’ve also traveled internationally.
Staff are friendly and attentive. My room was clean. The bed was comfortable.
Now the bad.
Whoever runs this hotel will sacrifice their customers satisfaction to save a few pennies. The Air Conditioning was off, other guests who I talked to in the elevator stated that they rooms were hot to the point of them not being able to sleep. When I arrived in my room, I noticed that the thermostat was off — No wonder; turning it on didn’t do anything.
When I brought this up after the first night, the guy at the front desk asked if I wanted a fan. He also suggested I stay in my room with the door open, and the fan on. Sleeping with the tiny, tiny, window open at night with the random noises of downtown Toronto to wake me up every hour or so was not delightful.
I’ve had multiple conversations with management of this hotel on a marketing fee they automatically put on the bill. You don’t have to pay it. It is about 4 bucks a night, and since I prepaid for the room, our accounting system caught it. A sputtering manager that I called a few weeks prior to my trip offered a free breakfast to make that problem go away. But when I got my bill, the charge was still there, and the breakfast as well.
For some reason, in this part of the world, building managers seem to feel it is necessary to turn air conditioning off in the winter. This is a great way for them to save money, but completely unnecessary. The Holiday Inn Express I stayed at 20 miles from here for two nights just before my arrival at this hotel has working AC, and I didn’t give it a thought.
This hotel has an owner that aspires to mediocrity. Beat up furniture, neglected room fixtures, printers without toner cartridges (both), all add up to an owner that doesn’t (frankly) give a shit about you, except for your money.
This might be the stay that keeps me away from Holiday Inns forever.

Stayed here for anniversary weekend. Although we live just down the street in Kensington Market this seemed a easy and fun anniversary. The stay was fine but wow that restaurant sucks. I will never go to another Fox and Fiddle ever, horrible place. Nothing about it was good

Boring but efficient. Rooms have no style. Hotel restaurant is actually 3^rd party that lets you charge the meal on your room. No breakfast buffet. Wifi works. Centrally located. Close to subway.
‘Nuf said.

Holiday Inn Strikes Again — Do not stay here! The front desk hotel staff was SO disrespectful. One man lied to us, and then they wondered why we felt we were being treated differently than other customers. The man at the front desk argued with me, interrupted me, and yelled at me. Maybe this is how they treat customers, or just female customers, but either way, no customer should be treated this way. We were with a large wedding party, and after my experience, I would not recommend subjecting your family and friends to this type of treatment for an occasion as wonderful as a wedding. Find another local hotel with actual customer service, and with better accommodations.

I’ve stayed at this hotel many times, and it’s been a mixed bag. However, this most recent stay was largely positive. I was assigned a room on the 6^th floor but my neighbours were very loud. I asked to be moved, and the request was accommodated without hassle.
I was taken aback that the manager had no qualms about suggesting I downgrade (without compensation) to a 2 double beds room (I was alone), but when I asked why she wouldn’t offer a King bed instead, she was quick to say that a fee would apply.
I appreciate that they have an arrangement with a nearby fitness center and pool to accommodate their guests. That’s a definite plus.

stayed here for a week and really my only complain and the only reason i didnt give this place 5 stars was because of the House Keeping. it was HORRIBLE! they didn’t change out my change my sheets even tho i ask. they would leave the trash behind even thou they would come in and clean. they would whipe down the bathroom with old damp towels; which left a moldy smell behind.
Now aside from that the hotel is about 2 miles walking distance from all the big tourist land marks about 2 min walk from tons of restaurants a 5 min walk to the subway. furthermore the rooms are really quiet and the staff is supper friendly. the Gym is pritty cool and is open ²⁴⁄₇ «that was big for me» so finishing off this hotel isn’t to bad. like i said my only gripe was house keeping but when i spoke with the front desk they corrected the problem really quick. so yes i would recommend this hotel and if i were to return i would conciser staying here again.

We are staying here for 9 days and, all in all, we’re pleased. The bed is fairly comfortable and the halls are quiet, even though our room is across from the laundry room and the gym. The laundry machines are the coin operated type, but are free, which is great. There are a couple of good restaurants downstairs.

My boyfriend and I stayed in this hotel a few nights ago and I must say the only thing great about it was it was so close to everything you needed, grocery stores, restaurants, museums, clothing stores ect.
The problems Was: the lady at the front desk was not very cheerful or happy she basically asked for my name and gave me a key and that’s it did not tell me there was free wifi or how to connect or anything. As we got to the room it was very old and didn’t seem to be updated but I must say it was big. The night we checked in we wanted to go swimming, we booked online and there was a picture of a swimming pool so we thought great there is a pool there. WRONG! Pool was a 5 min walk and they closed at 7 I mean what do they do in the winter send there guest threw the snow. I’ve stayed in a lot of hotels and this was the worst. Our first night we hear this raddling from the bathroom we called front desk and they sent someone up. He then told us when we hear it to open the water because there is air in the pipes, we delt with this sound for 2 nights I couldn’t deal with it for our last night. I expressed myself again to front desk and he said to move rooms I agreed and let me tell you the room was so small there was no room for anything but it was our last night so made it work. if you book here get a room facing the street much bigger. But I will not be staying here ever again.

Considering I bid on my hotel on Priceline and got it for $ 93/​night I wasn’t expecting the Mandarin Oriental, but I did expect clean. As a previous reviewer mentioned, housekeeping was quite lax and it bordered on nasty, especially when I peeled back the covers and noticed BLOOD on the blankets (not mine!). I notified housekeeping and this was rectified, but the bathtub was dirty, they didn’t vacuum regularly and half the time the bed was covered but not made (meaning corners were folded under, etc).
The reason I didn’t give this 1 star was due to the location: pretty good and convenient for a tourist. The hotel is on Bloor St West, between Huron St and St George St, cut through side drive way and cross the street for a TTC subway station (ST George). The ROM is a block away, the BATA shoe museum is across the street, and there is fantastic luxury shopping if you head east (LV, Burberry, Gucci, Hermes, etc). I also enjoyed the underground parking, but the price was a little steep ($ 22/​nt). Ah, the price you pay for convenience.
Not sure I would stay here, unless housekeeping improves. I’ve stayed in other HIs, and even the Express locations seemed cleaner and better maintained. This wasn’t the worst hotel I stayed in, but my list of bad hotels is pretty short…

My mom was visiting for a week and decided to stay here due to its proximity to campus. Clearly not a place that you would stay for luxury. Even compared to other Holiday Inn locations and Holiday Inn Express locations, this is one of the saddest ones I’ve ever stayed at.
It feels like nothing has ever been cleaned properly. Dusty carpets, handles, elevators, rooms. I felt kind of dirty just being in here. And their lighting does nothing to ameliorate the situation — it’s dimly lit and unflattering. I wouldn’t be surprised if one of the light bulbs flickered or died. The elevator buttons are always falling away, making an 8 look like an infinity sign. Lobby does not exist.
The rooms are alright. TVs are from the early 90s. House cleaning is great though at arranging things and cleaning up.
3 stars for location and price point.

Probably the nicest Holiday Inn I have ever stayed in, and I have stayed in several. Rooms are big and comfortable, clean, and the hotel is in a good location. Service is efficient at the front desk. Stay the hell away from the restaurant inside, but all other aspects of this hotel are a-​ok!

We chose this location mostly out of location. It’s right in downtown Toronto and not too far from the sights we wanted to see.
You might miss this place while driving since it’s tucked in between the other buildings. There’s one driveway to get in from Bloor Street and the way the building was constructed was not very convenient for visitors. One, parking is all the way in the back and you drive down this ramp to really tight spots. Two, there’s not much covering outside, so even if you park outside their main entrance (which doesn’t face the street) to load and unload, if you’re caught on a rainy day, you’d get soaked.
Other than that, pluses include free wifi (must ask hotel for password) and our super close proximity to the university across the street and walking distance to ROM.

We got this hotel through a Priceline deal.
You are only here for one thing: the location.
The hotel is clean but not welcoming — the entrance is through a tiny alleyway off of Bloor St (note this is also where the parking is.).
Décor is slightly outdated, however comfortable enough.
The air is super dry here, it was like being in Morocco in July.
Staff were friendly, although the front lobby was a bit slushy.
Free internet was great, but it was extremely spotty.
Parking is a hefty $ 22 a day.
Doors are slightly thin — although the rooms by the elevator are recessed with a small hallway to avoid noise, you can still hear all the passersby.
Bottom line: if you just need a place to sleep and not too fussy, this is the place for you.

For the price (~$ 107 a night), this hotel was great. Super convenient. Nothing fancy, but provided all the basics:
Clean towels
Toiletries (Bath & Body Works products)
Iron/​ironing board
Fitness center
Tips/​Highlights:
Ask for a room facing one of the alleys or the back street to avoid street noise (but you may not get a view)

Occasionally, the hotel will partner with the Royal Ontario Museum to provide guests with discounted prices on special exhibitions (i.e., Terracota Warriors).
Pub downstairs open from 7 – 2 am. You can also order room service from them.
Over Easy — a block or two west of the hotel, a good/​cheap place for breakfast and lunch.
St. George subway station is one block away; can access two subway lines, including the one that goes to the airport.
Free copy of The Globe & Mail (Canada’s main newspaper) at your door in the morning.
In close proximity to: University of Toronto, Bata Shoe Museum, Gardiner Museum, Royal Ontario Museum, Casa Loma
Overall, really good experience!

We went to this hotel in July because we choose to take a chance with
. It was clean, but they are a little bit cheap. Internet connexion didn’t work the first night so the desk office transfered our call to the Internet company… The last morning, we received a bill of 0,85 $ for that call. We spoke to the person at the office and it was okay… but it wasn’t pleasant to received the bill because we had problems with an included service!
Anyway… They are in front of the Bata Shoe Museum and near the ROM. You don’t have to support the downtown noises during the night. So, in general, it was OK.
