Gelato Simply Italian

Disgustingly managed place with ridiculous and outright rude service.
Walked in this place with my boyfriend this evening and ordered some gelato. There are certain flavours that you’re told cannot be sampled and if you sample without buying, this cheap-​ass crap of a shack charges you a dollar. My boyfriend asked what one of the flavours was and the moron guy behind the counter curtly exclaimed «hazelnut!» Seriously, if you don’t like working at a crappy gelateria that is poorly managed, then quit. It’s a free country.
A female server was making my orange juice and my bf also ordered a Café latte so when the male moron server rang me up, I accidentally told him that I ordered an expresso and an orange juice, instead of the Café latte. I later learned that the moron poured the expresso into the Café latte. I should’ve taken it back and threw that cup of garbage into his face!
Will never return to this piece of crap establishment and hope they go out of business. Customers deserve better. If I were management, i’d fire that moron of a server behind the counter.

Great flavours which are really bright, but could use less sugar. Can’t seem to find a place that doesn’t overdo sugar.

Very poor customer service! The server refused to give me another sample for tasting with a very bad attitude. The gelato tasted ok but totally not worth it! Your mood will be ruined at this place fir a whole day! Worst gelato experience ever.

Literally tucked away in a parking garage in Yorkville, .Gelato Simply Italian offers the most amazing authentic Italian gelato in the area. Their very first store (opened in 2010) is located at Yonge and Eglinton, and the Yorkville location is their second store which opened in 2011. The owner of. Gelato creates his very own gelato recipes, making sure each recipe is unique and brings out the best flavours in them.

Their décor is very clean and simple. As we can see their colourful gelato is the main décor of the whole store. Small tables are available for those who wants to finish enjoying their gelato before leaving.
.Gelato offers at least 24 different flavours at a time. Customers are welcome to ask for a taste of the gelato before purchasing. .Gelato also do not repeat their flavours consecutively once it is sold out. They always bring out new flavours of gelato, so frequent customers will have different flavours to choose from.

.Gelato has a huge art display on the wall, which shows you all the flavours that they offer. I have notice some flavours are very unique and can’t be found easily — such as Variegato Nutella, Macedonia, Marron Glacé, and Biscotto.
And here are the flavours that we got. =) All the flavours were beyond delicious. They were very creamy, smooth, and milky. Each flavour has their very unique taste and the recipes were well adjusted such that no one flavour is over powering the other and they all compliment each other very well.
.Gelato is definitely a very good place to stop by if you want to give yourself a treat. Oh did I mention sometimes they have cute Italian guys working? ;)

I’m a Gelato snob. It should be creamy (not icy or runny) and the Flavors should explode on your tongue. The key is selling enough to keep it fresh. Simply Gelato reminds me of good Gelato in Rome or Florence. If your are in the mood for great Gelato give them a try.

Perhaps not the best service, and a little on the pricey side. Also the $ 1 sampling if you don’t buy might turn people off from this place.
But honestly some of the best gelato I’ve had. Got the pistachio and hazelnut, and it was incredible.

This place is very pretentious, and customer service is horrible. All of the flavours are in Italian, no English. When I asked the employee (in English) to tell me what some of the flavours were, he preceded to tell me that he «doesn’t know how to explain it in Japanese». I’m not Japanese.
Other than that, only one sample is allowed– and employee made it very clear that the most popular flavours are not allowed for sampling because «it is too expensive».
Overall, was okay. I’ve had better. Wouldn’t return.

This is my favourite place for gelato in Toronto. Their pistachio gelato is by far the best and their fruit flavours tastes like the real fruit. I also prefer this location in Yorkville compared to the one on Yonge. That being said, this is my favourite place for dessert!!!

I’m really surprised how positive some of these reviews are. The customer service was terrible and the ice cream was mediocre.
Throughout the whole experience, the employees make sure to make you feel as insignificant as possible, as they inform you they only give you one sample because it’s too expensive to make and then charge you a dollar if you don’t want to buy an actual ice cream with it (also many flavors have a «no sample» policy because they’re popular). That doesn’t seem all that bad on paper, until you try a flavor and realize the ice cream is not that good, and now you have to pay either $ 1 to leave this place or buy a small for $ 5 or medium for $ 6 50. I don’t mind spending $ 5 — $ 7 on ice cream, but at least make the ice cream good (my partner and I didn’t even finish the ice cream we bought).
Look if you want to spend that much on ice cream, all you have to do is walk for 2 minutes in any direction and you will find another solid place without fail. In the end, the combination of horrible customer service and mediocre ice cream leaves you with nothing but the feeling that you’ve just been ripped off. This place is not worth your time or money.

waffle cones. Soft, almost melting ice cream. I don’t think I will return and pay $ 5 for a scoop of ice cream. There is also a sign saying you have to pay $ 1 if you take a sample but do not purchase.
I know it’s yourkville, but the quality is just not worth the price.

This place is great for a post-​dinner treat, or a light refreshment on a warm day. The gelato is exactly how it should be; light, airy and soft– the very things that separates gelato from most ice cream. I tried the pistachio and hazelnut flavours, which seem to be really prized since those two flavours are prohibited to sample. Both were exceptionally good, particularly the hazelnut flavour– which may be the best gelato I’ve had anywhere. A small scoop is $ 5 flat, which is still a generous serving size and satisfies.

Spectacular gelato, but the worst customer service! I wouldn’t go back and spend my money in a place where their staff lacks all sorts of manners.

The gelato was good, but what’s with the staff wearing t-​shirts that say «no samples» or something along those lines?
I get that you’re a popular place but then to charge people a buck if they sample and don’t order? Kinda tacky I think. Most people will order, no? Do people seriously just taste and leave?
I had a small gelato, two flavours: lemon and blueberry. Very flavourful, nice texture. Just didn’t love the vibe of this place.

Visited due to the $ 5 #paypalitTO promotion. I’ve been to the Yonge St. location before and loved it, so I was way too excited to hear that it was part of Paypal’s promotion.
Unlike the Yonge location, which allows you to sample 2 flavours before purchasing, you can only sample 1 flavour here. Not a big deal, though, as you can’t go wrong with whatever you choose. I’m a hazelnut fan so I went with two flavours of the hazelnut variety.
Although I can’t call myself a gelato connoisseur just yet (I’ve only begun to join the gelato craze), this is the best gelato I’ve had thus far. Give it a shot, I’m sure it’ll rank high among your list too.
This location allows you to pay with Paypal, so expect payment to be super-​convenient if you are a user of the Paypal app.

The gelato is just ok… it’s too sweet and the store policy is a bit awkward… you can only have one taste but they push you to buy multiple flavors and if you don’t buy they charge a dollar a taste… Keep looking…

Best tip: Don’t come here. Many better options within a 2 min walk. The don’t even let you try the flavors. How cheap is that?

Found this little hidden gem while I was on a stroll around Yorkville with a friend of mine.
It’s very tiny inside and very clean. The server behind the counter was friendly and super approachable!
I was overwhelmed with all of the flavours but since this was the first time that I was going to try this place, I might as well go for the customer favourites! The server told us that the pistachio and the hazelnut were customer favourites. He even said it was his favourite too, so why not!
My friend and I both ordered the same thing, half pistachio and half hazelnut in a cup. It costed us $ 5 which isn’t too bad (considering the location) but holy moly, the most flavourful gelato that I’ve ever had!
Each bite was just blissful, all the flavours were there. I wasn’t a huge fan of the hazelnut, I preferred the pistachio over it but seriously, if you’re there, definitely get the pistachio! Oddly enough, you can’t sample the hazelnut or the pistachio… which I thought was weird but hey, we took a chance and it was delicious. Highly recommended!
Overall, I’ll definitely be back for more so I can try the other flavours but… I’ll probably stick with the pistachio since it was that good!

Imma sucker for a cute smile, especially when that smile is accompanied by a charming Italian accent.
Therefore, I like this place.
It isn’t a steal. I mean, their paninis are thin — they definitely won’t fill you up. And some post-​panini gelato is a MUST. But you still won’t be full.
And it’ll cost you.
So why four stars? Like I said, dat Italian charm.
