Description

Specialties

Frog Jump Swing Dance founded in 2013 is a swing dance school based in Toronto. We are passionate about the social dance scene of the swing era spanning between 1920s and 1940s. We specialize in teaching and dancing Lindy Hop, Charleston and the Vernacular Jazz from the era.

Lindy Hop is an energetic and improvisational partnered jazz dance which evolved in the 1920s and 1930s in and around Harlem, New York. It’s a fusion of various jazz dances including tap, breakaway and Charleston. On top we are relatively spoiled — as we usually find many venues to dance Lindy Hop with live big band music.

History

Established in 2012.

We have been swing dancing for quite a while. While living in the West of Toronto, we found that the Swing Dancing scene is quite a bit developed from the central to the eastern side of Toronto while lagging behind in the west part of the Town. We decided to start this school to spread the joy of Swing Dancing (Lindy Hop, Charleston and Vernacular Jazz) and to revive the perhaps lost art of partnered dancing within the public. Hence here we are catering at two locations at the Swansea Town Hall (near Runnymeded subway station) and Humbercrest United Church Location (near Jane subway station).

Meet the Business Owner

Terri and Riz D.

Business Owner

Terri has delved into many forms of dancing including Salsa, Swing and Vernacular Jazz until falling in love with Lindy Hop, Blues, Jazz and Charleston. She has traveled to Herrang Dance Camp in Sweden, Stompology Jazz Workshops in Rochester, Swing Our in New Hampshire, Followlogie in Montréal to learn with the best.

Terri has taught classes at Douvercourt and University of Toronto Swing. She has performed in Newfoundland’s Theatre Newfoundland and Labrador, Bees’ Knees Dance and is now teaching dance with Frog Jump Dance studio.

Rizwan — has been hooked to Lindy Hop since he saw a couple of Lindy Hoppers at the Reservoir Lounge in 2009 in Toronto. He was off to Europe the other day but instead of checking out the Tourist spots he was browsing about learning Lindy Hop.

Since then he has been on an adventure — learning Lindy Hop, Charleston, Vernacular Jazz, Blues and Tap.

He has attended many dance workshops events including Herrang in Sweden.
