Had them literally for less than 1 day since I was taking over a plan from a buddy and switching to Mobilicity. Fido charged me a whole month for less than 1 day of no service. Fido sux. don’t go to the dogs. Go with Mobilicity.

I’ve been with Fido for over 2 years now. Only to discover today that I’ve been unnecessarily overcharged by hundreds of dollars(but don’t worry, they gave me a $ 10 credit, and a sorry). Make sure you double check your plans, I was paying $ 65 for 1gb, today I found out that all this time, I could have been paying $ 65 for 2gb because I had bought my own phone(this means I never would have gone over my data). The woman I called apologized no one had told me sooner, saying«not everyone loves their job.» Apparently all the Fido employees over 2 years I’ve ever talked to, HATE their jobs. Thankfully, I also discovered that my contract expired last month(despite it saying on the website that it was to expire July of NEXT year). If I hadn’t have asked, I would have been stuck with these bastards for much longer than I’d have liked.

I give this phone company a rating of A-OK but this is only because I haven’t experiences better from other companies. Bell was a complete disaster when I used them years ago. Fido has been pretty good to me and they offer lower rates than the major companies. My only complaint is the choice of phones that they offer. They only offer the lowest of the low Blackberrys which is the phone I use. I was able to get them to give me a great deal to stay with them and my low price is locked in for a few years which is good. I don’t think there are many people that are happy with their phone provider but I don’t have real complaints about the service. Like I said, I just wish they had more good phones to pick from.

Fido might have been a feisty cell alternative once, but when they merged with Rogers, they apparently got worse. I learned this first-hand when I ordered a cell phone off Fido’s website, and never received it. Even though the charge for it(made by their Montréal office) was on my credit card, when I called their customer service(farmed out to New Brunswick), they had no record of it. Suffice it to say, after me making a few more calls and still getting jerked around, I had no choice but to have the credit card void the charge after enough time had gone by to justify that because of the non-delivery. Then I ordered a phone from Virgin.

Coming from the US cell phone plan where you get a gazillion minutes for nearly nothing, I was disappointed in my options. I have used Fido as a pre-paid customer for 3 years now and decided, upon returning to Canada, that I would switch to a real plan. I reviewed all the less-than-optimal companies in Canada and decided Fido might be the least bad. I wanted a plan so I could use my phone in the US. After spending 3 hours trying to change from pre-paid to plan, I flew to LA and my phone still didn’t work! Apparently if you have less than stellar credit(anyone who hasn’t lived in Canada for 30 debt-free years) has to: 1. Pay a security deposit to sign up for a plan and 2. Get s a 90 day hold on roaming and int’l calls. So, I’ve cancelled my Fido and I’m going back to an American plan– if they’ll have me.
