Open daily and year-round, Evergreen Brick Works engages visitors in a full suite of attractions and events including our Saturday and Sunday Farmers’ Market, nature trails for hiking and cycling, site tours, cooking and gardening workshops, exhibits, conferences, festivals, nature-based camps for youth and a sustainable garden market and eco-store.
Restored and revitalized by Evergreen, a national
not-for-profit, the site is now home to a LEED Platinum
building and is a global showcase for green design, urban sustainability and a vibrant public space – named one of the world’s top 10 geotourism destinations by National Geographic.
History
Established in 2010.
From 1889 to 1984, Don Valley Brick Works was one of Canada’s pre-eminent brickyards. When the factory closed down in 1984, the site was abandoned, leaving behind a damaged ecosystem, crumbling buildings and contaminated soil.
Restored and revitalized by Evergreen a national not-for-profit, the site opened to the public in 2010, and is now home to a LEED Platinum building and is a global showcase for green design, urban sustainability and a vibrant public space – named one of the world’s top 10 geotourism destinations by National Geographic.
