We’re about Creativity, Confidence, and Community Building. Different Stages is a licensed Facilitator of TheGROOVE. It’s is a dance class that feels like a party! Like the energy of Zumba, but want something more free and easy? You’ll love TheGROOVE. You can’t get it wrong, because you’re supposed to look different from everyone else. You’ll be given 2 – 3 easy moves for each song, and then you do them in your own way: add arms, change directions, get down with your own style! No dance experience necessary. No choreography. No right foot/left foot. No judgement. No reason not to try it! Different Stages also offers Private Parties, including: Children’s Theme parties, Corporate Dance experiences, Dance Party Starters (house parties, weddings, events), Bachelorette/Girls’ Night Dance Workshops. We’re trying to get every BODY dancing, in their own way! Join us.
History
Established in 2005.
Different Stages started as the dream of a Drama student in the city of Cambridge in 2005. While completing her 3rd year of University, Shannon Hancocks launched Different Stages as a Drama company for kids. They offered Drama Camps, after school workshops, and themed birthday parties. Shannon also taught belly dance classes at Khizmet Bellydance in Cambridge for kids, teens, and adults.
After becoming an Ontario Certified Teacher, Shannon moved to Malaysia for 3 years, facilitating community workshops and teaching in an international school.
Now relocated to Toronto, and trained in Misty Tripoli’s World GROOVE Movement technique, Different Stages offers classes in TheGROOVE, a community dance experience that is impossible not to love.

Business Owner
Shannon is a GROOVEr, a dance floor starter, a truth warrior, a firefly, a clown, a survivor of the traditional competitive studio classes that so many lose their love for dance/themselves from.
She is on a mission to spread the love of dance to people who have somehow lost the belief in their bodies’ ability to move and express joy. She is finding new spaces to build community for those who love to dance. She is looking for recruits for her movement — Are you in?
