This is one of many parks in North York, and one of the biggest. A peaceful place at times and home to tai-chi aficionados, at other times this park bustles with the shouts of children playing on the extensive playground equipment peppered around the park, including a climbing area, a big slide, a sandbox and other crawling areas. The park is steps from the many condos in the area and is close to North York Centre subway. The Dempsey Brothers Store, which dates back to 1860, was relocated to its present site in 1996, and the move preserved the building, and spawned the creation of Dempsey Park, which, In 1999, was expanded to include a multi-media display of public art by Millie Chen and Warren Quigley, complete with Precambrian rocks, animal tracks embedded in the concrete throughout the park, bronze sculptures, and various farm tools. But, mainly, it’s a children’s playground and a small oasis for local condo and townhouse residents.
