Curry’s Art Store

The others who ooh and aah over this store are likely more artistically-​inclined than I am, so perhaps you should weigh their reviews heavier. I’m more of a periodic crafter than an art expert.
This store is huge for Queen W, and has lots and lots of room. The two things I was looking for they were out of, which was a bit annoying. The shelves looked a bit empty when it came to the goodness I was after, but if you’re a true artist in search of paint, canvases, sketch books, etc. I imagine this is a true haven for you.

I love this place! They have one of the widest selections of art supplies in Toronto. Free parking for customers too. Staffs are super nice and helpful!

I have no clue what I’m doing in the art world but I enjoy it nonetheless! I’ve recently gotten into my creative side again after losing it somewhere in my youth. I’m into adult colouring now and wanted to pick up some fresh colouring pencils.
I’m not sure if this location is renovating because it seems kinda sparse with lots of empty spaces and lots of empty places on the shelves. Inventory for certain items definitely seemed low. I do like Curry’s because there is generally a lot of selection of products at all different price ranges and all levels — beginners to advanced artistes! Lots of good sales and the staff are really friendly and can help you find what you want and give you advice on what you need,
So head on to Curry’s in a hurry… (hahaha I had to… I just had to… lol)

The staff are helpful and nice, and there is more selection here than other Curry locations. If only this could be on the subway line that would be great.
I live up north and it took me 1.5 hours to get here on the TTC. By that time I had to go very badly and this store has a washroom. So I went, and ended up buying 150 $ worth of stuff, then I used the bathroom again before I left.

This place is huge compared to the Yonge street location but not nearly as friendly or busy. Still a great store.

Every time I go into an art store, I feel like I’ve dropped into an Alice in Wonderland fantasy. Those rainbow paints and shapely brushes all call my name, promising better days where my drawing of a turtle will no longer look like a potato. (Alas, for it never is the case… but one can keep hoping).
This store is well stocked enough for the art addict. I actually came by looking for some simple plastic containers or maybe some hipstery mason jars but I just got carried away with the acrylic paint and paintbrushes. I will never stop imagining myself with a swirly moustache and a beret, dancing around a canvas and having outbursts of «et voila!!» accompanied by sweepingly grandiose arm gestures.
I guess I will have to come back and actually find those mason jars, but I look forward to the next time I will get to imagine an alternate universe where I am some skilled renaissance painter. Until then, I will just have to satisfy myself by looking at art on the internet.

I have not been to this place in a while, because well, I’m not really an artist.
What I am is, an addict of purchasing art supplies for me to «try out later», for my imaginary projects that never even makes to the drawing board. And as such, I will say that this place is a horrible place for my wallet to ever visit, because not only do they have supplies at a reasonable price — they actually want to help you with your artistic endeavors, and ensures people like me — leave with more than what I think I want — in more than one variety.
I mean if you want more economic prices, that hole-​in-​a– wall on Spadina is better, where nobody cares if you’re in or out of the store.
I totally forgot about the impact this store had on me and popped in during a random stroll on Queen street — mostly because it looked like it was… closing (I almost shat myself at this thought)? Either way, turned out to be a horrible choice because they are now having some SERIOUS sale to make room, I assume, for larger variety of stuff that I will purchase to tackle «later.»
The friendliness hadn’t changed either — or maybe it’s because I look like I have NO clue what I want or what I am doing –the person that made the mistake of asking me if I needed anything went to great lengths to explain the various sketch books available and what it’s good for and what I can and cannot do — and did the same for paints. Seriously, I couldn’t do anything BUT walk out with 5 sketchbooks– she also just assumed that I was a freshmen in an arts program and gave me a discount (say what?! I am so flattered I look young).
I assume since they’re that patient with a non-​artist, I assume that they even more willing to share their love for it with actual artists… that do… art…-_– instead of just collecting supplies… in which case, I advise you not to go in. Go somewhere more pricey and snooty, so you don’t walk out with things…

I’m no artist, but as someone with a serious addiction to purchasing art supplies, this place is like a large resealable sack of ecstacy sitting in a punchbowl of cocaine dropped into a kiddle pool of heroin. That is to say, I like this place.
Everything an artist could need and a lot, lot more. They have a ridiculous selection of paper including specialty papers, mylar, tissue, photo paper, and notebooks too. I was looking for paper cutting accessories and was extremely impressed with the quantity of offerings.
They also have a host of things I know nothing about like paint and paint tools. You could easily get lost in a store like this, and I have many times. Everything is of top quality and the staff are more than willing to help. Oh, and did I mention that the soundtrack is killer too? Woolfitt’s works on so many levels.

Need to mention: They have parking! A rarity on this stretch of Queen St W.
What this place teaches me about myself: Maybe I should get a part-​time job at an art supplies store.

I came here on the prowl for construction paper in 30 different gradients of orange, and Woolfitt’s rose to the occasion, and then some. The cute art clerk happily helped me track down the extremely affordable paper and didn’t once ask what sort of bizzaro art project I was working on. Nor did he even clue in to the fact that I flunked out Mrs. Fernandes’ grade 9 art class with an F grade of 19 or that people literally run screaming at the prospect of being partnered with me in Pictionary. I may not be the artsy type, but I was more than welcome in this artist mecca.

Woolfitt’s, in keeping with its roll of the tongue name, has an easy setup to walk through. The staff are very helpful whenever and for whatever you need them. I have purchased paints for my niece where I was more concerned about them being more free from chemicals (in case she was dumb enough to try them — though with the colours vibrancy I suppose you couldn’t quite blame someone). I managed to put together a great starter kit with affordable paints, brushes, and half priced canvases. I have purchased different weights and colours of paper, pens, pencils, sharpeners, coloured pencil crayons, paints, etc. All of it has been of great quality and what’s better, discounted up to about 20 percent on some things if you are a member. (I don’t think that involves more than signing up for newsletters — but don’t quote me, i did it long ago when I first started going.).
Only minor faults are the paying parking lot. I guess that’s just one fault.

I’ve been going to Woolfitt’s on and off for years, ever since I was a kid and they were located on Dupont (back in the early ‘90s, I won a whole bunch of acrylic paints in a draw, which I still have). The current location is a bit brighter and more bohemian-​looking, but the retail space might actually be a bit smaller, though I couldn’t be sure. Regardless, they have a ton of top-​notch art supplies here, and often have great deals.
Right now, for instance, their pre-​stretched canvases are half price. If I didn’t already have a bunch laying around at home that I haven’t got around to using yet, I’d stock up. The last time I was there I did snag some free art-​quality blank postcards, since they were giving them away for entry into a postcard-​art contest (the prize is a couple hundred bucks in expensive paper).
