Civello Salon

I first came to Civello after being recommended by my sister, she experiences great cuts here but was unsure of how they would be at men’s cuts. I was willing to give it a chance though. After a great first experience, I now go to Civello regularly. My regular stylist Brittany always does a great job with my cuts. Their Aveda products are ideal for styling and are of good quality I now go here about every 8 – 10 weeks and wouldn’t go anywhere else.

I went to Civello for the first time in late Dec 2015 at the yonge/​eglinton location and had the worst experience. Definitely don’t plan on returning to any Civello locations again. My stylist, Kennedy, told me how she «actually did not enjoy cutting hair and never had a passion to enter the hair styling industry» which I found a bit odd to tell a customer as you are cutting their hair. At first glance although I didn’t really like the cut she had given me (framed my face oddly), it wasn’t awful. In the 5 weeks since my cut, I noticed that my bangs were cut too short in some areas and so my hair would jut out and wouldn’t fall properly. I also noticed that when I put my hair in a ponytail, there were very distinct sections of hair almost as if she had literally cut straight across the top half of my hair in an attempt to layer it. You can see a clear line where my «layers» end and then the rest of the hair beneath is 4 inches longer. She clearly didn’t blend it at all. Anyway I paid $ 85 (including tax) for this cut and was very disappointed. I regret going to Civello even if it were free.

I had a booking for Makeup with Jade as well as a Cut and Style with Rachel. The booking agent helped time my visit to get me out the door in time for my event. I went to
Rachel first then onto Jade upstairs. Both ladies put me at ease at straight away. Everyone I encountered in the salon was warm and welcoming.
Rachel listened to my intended direction and asked me about my daily routine taking into consideration how much effort I’d be putting into my hair every morning. It has been a few weeks and my hair still falls flawlessly. As she cut she gave tips on care and product use. She is super focused with her hand and worked efficiently. The hair wash and scalp massage was dreamy. I can’t wait to have Rachel work with my hair again and I am planning my next visit!
Jade. Jade has this calming presence. She floats around you her magic brushes and tender hand. As someone who rarely wears make up she educated me on what I should be looking for with my skin tone and did an audit on my make-​up bag habits letting me know what keeps and what goes off. Jade is very aware of your personal space and comfort level and she reassured then explained patiently her process. The end look she created was beautiful. I highly recommend Jade.

As I moved to Toronto just a few months ago, I was on the search for a new hair salon (I had been going to the same salon in Whitby for almost 10 years). I decided to get my hair cut at Civello after seeing a friend’s instagram post of her new haircut (which she mentioned was done at Civello).
I booked an appointment with a junior stylist (I believe there are 2 levels above junior, but the price increases with more experienced levels). When I got there, I was given a tour of the salon and was offered a beverage. I found out that the stylist who was scheduled to cut my hair had been working there for a month. I was a little skeptical, as before moving to Toronto, I had been going to a stylist with years of experience. The hair cut starts off with a scalp and neck massage, which I LOVE! Very relaxing. This was followed by a shampoo, blow dry and style (I chose to have it styled with a flat iron). She then cut my hair after it was styled (which I have had done before). I didn’t want a major change; I just wanted the split ends cut off. She did a good job, but it’s less than a week later and I can already see split ends after I flat iron my hair, which means she didn’t cut off quite enough. This is a little disappointing, as I paid $ 56 (after tax) for only a trim, and it wasn’t even done properly.
Following the hair cut, you are given a free make up touch up. I chose to sample a lip gloss. Great product, but I chose not to purchase it as it was $ 22 (!).
I was given a free sample of a hair product I had asked about, which was a nice touch.
Overall, it was a good experience. If I do return, though, I will likely book an appointment with a more senior stylist.

If you need brows or make-​up Jade is your girl. I used to go to Jade at the downtown location but lucky for the mid-​towners she is now at the Yonge location. Trust me when I tell you there isn’t anyone in the city who does a better job and I have tried many places. I also got my haircut by Nicole for my first time and I was so happy! She totally listened to what I wanted and I walked out happy which is hard when it comes to hair. I will definitely be returning!!:-)

Update: I did go back for a colour appointment even though I was disappointed with my last colour visit (more on the service end than the actual colour part). I had Vanessa this time and she was fabulous. I had a vague idea of what I wanted and she was very honest with me in regards to what would work and what would not and the reasons why. She even brought out the ipad to look at colours so we knew exactly what the end product would be! Her suggestion was bang on and my colour looks great. nicely blended in, natural as you can get. I love it.

So glad I found this salon. I’ve been going here for about 6 months now and am so happy with my stylist, Noelia. She does exactly what I ask. The salon is clean and beautiful inside, and all of the staff are pleasant. I love the appointment reminder voicemails I get a few days before an appointment, and the free bang trims in between hair cuts. I have only been for hair cuts, have not had any colour done here.

Used to go here for haircuts and highlight services. One word: Expensive. Not a great value for the money spent. You feel like just another «head» in the chair.
My highlights were done professionally but no after-​care advice or game plan or anything going into future. When I came back in a couple months to get the roots re-​touched, the colour technician re-​painted the full head all over again. This caused major damage to my hair and left me «over highlighted». There is very little communication or planning or consulting with you. They are the supposed «experts». I was hoping for more professional advice and care but got zero.
They are like robots up in the colour room. All they know how to do is put foils in and bleach hair in the same pattern. As a result, every woman walking out of there looks identical — the North Toronto-​Stepford wife look.
I got fed up with Civellos; the lack of personal attention and paying ridiculous amounts for average service/​skill.
I educated myself online and do my hair myself now; highlights and trimming. I’m saving practically $ 1,000 a year doing this and am happier with my results than I ever was going to Civellos.

I’ve been trying out salons throughout the city ever since I started colouring my hair 4 years ago and haven’t been satisfied (I am picky to an extreme) until I tried out Civello! I had heard good things through friends and thought why not try it out? I had been to several other Aveda salons and trust the brand and level of professionalism behind it.
I went in with the hopes to get my hair colour to a place where I would finally be happy with and they did just that! Being someone who only started getting blonde in her hair a few years ago, I am still having trouble explaining what I want, and so I always come in with multiple pictures on my phone. When I got there we (can’t remember her name but she was very sweet) had a whole discussion about what I was looking for and for the first time ever, she told me that the looks I was giving her were different. I assume this is why I have never gotten what I want, because no one has ever told me that my images I was showing were different styles. We finally decided on one pictures and my hair turned out just as I expected and wanted! I was so happy walking out of the salon with a colour I could finally be proud of wearing.
When it comes to a colour, communication is so key and often colourists assume you understand them or they take control of what they want for you. I was extremely pleased with the service I got.
I didn’t give it a 5 only because of the blowout. I was passed off to someone for a wash, which was fine, nothing special. The blowout I wasn’t asked how I style my hair or what I wanted. She didn’t do a great job on my hair, I have shoulder length hair and she flipped the bottom out — I looked like a 50’s housewife!!! I kind of couldn’t believe it when I saw it, but she didn’t ask me if I liked it, she just said there you go, and left. It was weird. It went up into a ponytail (which is so disappointing after you spend 3 hours in a salon).
I’ll probably go back for another colour but I will be explicit about how I wanted my hair blown out.

I have been twice.
The first time I had highlights. The girl was nice and did a good job. But when it was done and washed out and dried she was nowhere to be found. She didn’t ask if it was ok or if I liked it, etc. I regret leaving her a good tip, because she obviously didn’t care. It was overpriced as well.
The second time I went back because they gave me a $ 25 off coupon for my next visit. A different girl did my highlights. They got washed out and dried and I looked at my hair. NO different! The highlights didn’t work at all. She said the room was too cold so they didn’t set. She offered to do it again, so I stayed for another 90 minutes (because I have nothing else to do!!!) and she bleached it this time — I could smell it and feel it. They worked. However now my hair had been processed twice, and it’s about 2 weeks later now and my hair feels like straw. Also, the first round she put equally all over my head. The second batch she rushed and just threw a few in the front. So my bangs are practically white and the back of my head is light brown. It looks ridiculous. I’m not happy at all. She gave me an extra $ 25 discount for the trouble, but it still came out to $ 150! Craziness.
Also, the receptionist was rude. She offered me tea and then never brought it. Not great service.
I will not return and I will not suggest this place to anyone else. What a disappointment.

I have been going to this salon for years. it is the first one where I don’t stop at a mirror and try to restyle what the stylist has done. I see Stephanie for my cuts. I had been trying to create side-​swept bangs with no sucess and Stephanie told me this was due to a cowlick at the front of my hairline. She suggested I go with longer layers which suits me much better and means I don’t have to fight with my hair. She is quick but awesome and I have never had a cut I didnt love. Ana Christina does my colour and she is AMAZING. She creates exactly what I want and I typically go with warmer tones in winter and lighter in summer. She keeps a log of what i’ve done so i can return previous colour jobs that i loved. Both are lovely people and I truly enjoy my appointments. I have experienced great service at this location, they keep my Aveda tea topped up and are extremely pleasant. I no longer live near this area but I keep coming back and will continue to do so unless my Stephanie andf Ana leave (and then I will just go to a closer location).

The manager at this location uptown is amazing Sharon! She really cares!

I booked with Veronica, have seen her a few times before with my kids but stoped going as her prices went up to $ 85 from $ 60. I couldn’t justify spending all this money when my kids are so young and needing a simply hair cut.
I had my heart set on this style for a very long time and decided to cancel last minute with the junior stylist and book with Veronica.
What a Huge mistake that was.
I waited a very long time to grow my hair for this style and had pictures ready.
I had booked my daughter the day before with a junior stylist paid $ 30 and she loved it, this is who I cancelled with.
My hair was really long. I showed her the picture and on the tablet for perfect viewing for this style. Worst service I have ever received in Civello. She made me feel really uncomfortable right from the start. She rushed through a quick shoulder massage and haircut. During the cut I had mentioned many times the length of the layers.
When she finished, it did not look the same. I thought it might look different the next day but was worse. I wend back the next day; she looked at me and said I need to bring my manager, which was Sharon. I had other clients looking and listening to our conversation which made me feel really uncomfortable. When sharing this with Veronica she said she didn’t care what others were thinking. This was not about her, this was about me feeling really uncomfortable with a manger coming to discuss what I wanted. When it was simple, the picture was right there. Sharon was wonderful, she said to put through a few more layers and to keep me updated with her cutting. The back of my hair was layered too much! The cut was done dry and flat ironed; it looked like I worked at a strip club.
I was looking for a long soft layer in the back. All I was thinking is how I’m I going to drop off my kids at school, and how I’m I going to present my self to my clients.
Veronica also has her sister working there, she had cut my son’s hair many years ago and did a trouble job, Veronica had to fix it. Maybe there still upset with that, I don’t know.
Veronica suggested I wash my hair and blow dry it with a brush to give a softer look.
They couldn’t wash my hair as the water was to COLD. I this point I didn’t care I just wanted to get out of there. I had my hair get wet COLD, and was brushed off to a nice girl for the blow dry. Veronica had no care in the world continued her work like I wasn’t here and gossiped to other staff like I wasn’t there.
What is upsetting is that I had to wait so long to grow it out, drive down twice from Newmarket, paying $ 110.00 and having the stylist not give a care, very rude.
The manager Sharon was trying to get me into another location to fix it but everyone was busy. It was nice of her to try and offer a full refund.

Really good for the money paid.

I went for Brazillian wax at Civello. Vulla (i am not sure i am spelling the name right, but she is a very nice Greek lady) was helping me. She is amazing. She really knows what she is doing and she is just a very nice person in general. It was my first visit and they also gave me $ 25 gift card to be used for my next time — a pleasant surprise and a nice touch. will be back for sure!

I tried this Uptown (Eglinton) location for a hair cut as I was up that way Xmas shopping a couple weeks ago. I was very happy with my cut by Solani. She made sure I was happy with my layers and was very efficient. The front desk was a little slow and confused in handling my transactions but overall, I was very happy with my hair cut and will return!

Rebekka is only the second hairstylist that I have ever had that actually knows how to cut my hair. And it’s not like I have difficult or strange hair. It’s straight and brown. But apparently, that’s a challenge for most hairstylists and before Rebekka, I have hated almost every one of my cuts. I highly recommend her. And Civello… the head and neck massages are wonderful. The only reason I didn’t give it a ⁵⁄₅ is because sometimes the girls who wash my hair are pretty terrible — water in my eyes, ears and the water is either too hot or cold.

After receiving a gift card for Civello during the holidays i thought i would give them a try. I’ve had many awful cuts and I am over protective of my long tresses so I don’t like anything drastic done when it comes to the length. I was offered water, juice, and tea when i arrived and my stylist Elizabeth was prompt, professional and personable! Elizabeth did not pressure me to cut my hair– and actually advised that I should consider taking less off the length and follow up in a few weeks for a trim instead of doing it all at once so i don’t walk away shocked or disappointed after the appointment. Elizabeth knew exactly how to cut my fine, long hair — first I received a neck and scalp massage followed by a wash, conditioning treatment, blow dry, straightening and then my cut– I’ve never had a dry hair cut but I loved it! I decided to add a few long layers in the front around my face and she did not promise me a style that she wouldn’t be able to deliver if it wouldn’t work for my hair type/​face shape (i.e. layers throughout– face framing long layers would suit me best) so I really respected her honesty. Elizabeth really listened to what I wanted and let me make all the decisions, and not once did she tell me what I should do — she only made suggestions of how to achieve the look I desired which I really appreciated! She recommended a few products but did not pressure me to buy. My stylist was very patient and demonstrated thorough expertise in hair care! I’ve had so many compliments on my new hair cut and I’ve already booked my follow up appointment. I can’t imagine going anywhere else anymore and I am so relieved that I can finally call off the search party for the perfect salon and stylist!

After having hair issues with my past colourist… I was hunting around for a new place.
My first time here the colourist messed up my colour. I HATE complaining, but I did, as nicely as I could. They had it redone with a senior colourist for no charge.
I ended up finding Noelia. and she’s done a fantastic colour job every time.
I love that I can call pretty last minute and get an appointment within the next few days.

Best experience ever. Massage, tea, so much care, so worth while!

So after getting my hair ruined at another salon, a friend of a friend recommended Civello. She said she had tried every salon in Toronto and this was THE best for color and cut.
I was apprehensive at first– The last time I took someone else’s recommendation, my long caramel locks were dyed dark brown with a purple-​y red hue and short bangs.
So, I made an appointment with Kelley for color and Veronica for cut.
They both came and consulted with me, and they seemed to understand my desired result.
Well i walked out one happy puppy! My brown-​ish violet hair was highlighted into a shimmery honey brown, the cut left my hair full of body but with the length intact. Veronica styled my hair in these gorgeous lucious curls and tons of volume.
