Chris No Frills

No Frills is amazing for getting every day stuff that you will consume on a regular basis because they have big sales on different items. Paper towels, bathroom tissue, pop, spaghetti sauce… everything has it’s time for sales.
Recently a couple weeks ago they had bacon on sale for 2.50 a pack for 375g. While the new smaller packs are a little deceiving, bacon for the 500g packs has been as high as 7 dollars recently. This was a steal so yes I bought a dozen which I will freeze. They also have specials on meat like ribs (both back and side), chicken breasts, ground beef etc.
When certain items go on sale it’s smart if possible to stock up. Since this is a «President’s choice» chain they will carry some of those products and you can use PC gift cards here as well.
The aisles are very tight and when the employees are restocking and it’s a weekend it can be very trying to navigate through the aisles because the place can get pretty packed.
Another thing to remember is the carts now are no longer a quarter to unlock, they’re a loonie so always keep one handy in the car.
The produce is ok, the meat is decent but they are missing many specialty items that you just won’t find here and if you need them you’ll probably have to go to Loblaws or Metro.
For canned, processed, frozen foods etc this place has them for less pretty much no matter what it is, even cheaper than Wal Mart.
The competitors for this place would be Food Basics and Price Chopper. This particular No Frills is quite small in comparison of say the one at Dixie Value Mall.

This store is good for basics only. Find a good portion of the staff are not helpful but there are some very nice cashiers. Find the produce is hit and miss. Long line up’s for cash is a norm here.
For full shopping I would go somewhere else.

A great store full of great employees who always willing to give a hand. The store is small and yes it gets a bit crowded but the cheap prices totally make up for it. They didn’t have everything I wanted but considering how crowded this store can get I’m surprised they have anything at all. Fresh fruit and veggies along with a wide variety of fresh curs of meat. They even have a gluten free section to my surprise. They also price match which saves me money each week. Great sales on a regular basis and they also have a sushi section which tastes delicious considering how cheap it is… They aren’t the biggest store but definitely have the majority of the stuff that I need or want at excellent prices. Definitely recommend. Cleaner and more organized then the food basics on East mall.

No Frills? Try No selection! Don’t come here expecting to find anything in their flyer, they won’t have it! The store is very small and, naturally, they lack variety for this reason. I would’ve given one star since I won’t shop at this location again but they do «okay» for the amount of space they have and at least the items I was able to find were in good shape.

I come here on Mondays to buy my weekly «office grocery.» Which is pretty basic. True to its name, this is a no frill grocery store. No feel good music. No fancy bags. Disorganized shelves here and there and boxes in front of the counter.
You want to eat salad? Come here and buy your greens. Want to have fruits? Come and buy strawberries, bananas, peach, endless supply of mango, watermelon and all the good stuff. For breakfast, buy bagels and cream cheese.
But if you’re planning a 3-​meal dinner… go somewhere else. This is Martha Stewart’s nightmare. I can hear Martha Stewart say: «I can’t find the freshest ingredient and freshest olive oil for my flatbread.»
This grocery only offers basic stuff that makes Evian seems out of place — an overdressed bottled water. If you plan to spend $ 200 on shampoos and fancy toiletries, you will be disappointed because all it offers is Dove, Irish Spring and other basic-I-can’t-remember-the-name soap. They have cheap gel that will seem to burn your sculpt (based on the packaging).
But I come here almost weekly because they carry the stuff that I need for lunch — lettuce, prosciutto, whole grain bread, fruits and bottled water. Other than those items… this is not my go to place!

My rating for this No Frills is below poor!
As a first nations person I am entitled to an 8% hst exemption. But I was rudely told that they will not accept my card and that Natives do not get tax exemption unless they are on the reserve (untrue — all statused first nations people get at point-​of-​purchase exemption as of September 1, 2010). The head cashier was rude and very unprofessional and was out to prove me wrong by putting me on the phone with the ‘book keeper’. I didn’t know the person on the other end from Adam. She told me the same thing the head cashier told me but kept calling the reserve a reservoir and she also told me a few times that she IS current with all Ontario laws regarding the matter). The head cashier says to me ‘just because you say it doesn’t make it fact!’ she was so rude to me in front of all the other customers and in front of my husband and son. Everyone was staring at me. I have never felt so embarrassed at a grocery store in my life! I am a reasonable person. I didn’t purchase very much stuff and the exemption wasn’t very much either. I would normally pay the full tax, which I do often only because a lot of grocery stores don’t equip their employees with the knowledge of how to properly work the register… but I have always been treated nicely and i pay that with the same back! But when I am treated with such disrespect and hostility I will stand for what’s right. And how they were treating me was not right.
In the end I paid for my groceries with full tax. They had made me wait for about 20 minutes at 6pm. I had my hungry, tired 6 year old with me whom I needed to get home and fed. They made NO apology for what they made me go through… unbelievable!
I am usually a huge fan of Loblaws. My husband and i shop at the Super Store all the time… but I will never visit No Frills again if that’s how they treat their customers! I am appalled with the lack of customer service and professionalism!!!

It’s kinda cool when you open a franchise of No Frill’s and you get your name beside it. Although, there already exists a Laura’s No Frills, so maybe you’re not allowed if your name is already taken.
I digress.
I’m glad I finally found a grocery that’s on my way home from work. It makes a huge difference not to have to travel a ways away to get somewhere.
This one is okay. Come here to get your basics — like juice, milk, bread eggs etc. The produce section was quite fresh (as is with all No Frills) and I like the big white mushrooms in bulk.
I kind of gauge the freshness of a supermarket not by the quality of Strawberries. Somehow it’s the easiest thing to go rotten — check out regular Loblaws stores and you’ll be surprised.
I picked up the boxes and they all smelled super strawberry-​licious. However, they were quite small, and didn’t compare to the quality I could get at Fiesta Farms.
I didn’t see an Organic section, but they did sell Liberte and PC organics yogurt. Other Organic foods might be hidden in the aisles somewhere.
Also, aisles are narrow and the from cash area is tiny. I think I almost knocked some things over.
The guys that work here all look like high school kids, and although somewhat hard working might need to hurry it up a bit because it’s really squishy in the aisleways as it is.
