Beech Nursery

I’ve been to Beech Nursery three or four times and made purchases twice (one last summer, another just last week). I’ve found the plant selection to be very competitive with other nurseries in/​near downtown and the prices are average as well (which is all I ask for quality plants, I have no faith in cheap plants). I had called before going last week to see if they had the shrubs I was looking for, the man I spoke to was helpful and confirmed that they had a few left but would likely receive more the following day. During my visit last week I had to hunt around for a staff member to assist me because the only other employee was extremely occupied with another couple (it would have been nice if he’d offered to get someone else to help me). Once I did find another employee, she was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. She helped me select the hydrangeas I needed and provided some suggestions on a new ground cover we wanted to plant (which we also purchased that day). My husband and I were both happy with the experience and would definitely go back to Beech for similar purchases. I just really enjoy having a proper nursery that’s so accessible within the city. There is parking, although not very much (and stay away from the parking lot on the north side of the nursery unless you have an SUV, the potholes could swallow a compact car.)

Very disappointing experience. Bought a number of plants here and gave them dimensions of our garden so they could calculate the amount of mulch we would need for our planting project.
They vastly overcalculated the amount of mulch we needed, delivered far too much, and then refused to take any of the mulch back or offer any credit for their mistake. The owner was extremely unpleasant to deal with, rude and very hostile over the phone.
Avoid this business, they do not know how to treat customers properly nor are they interested in building the goodwill it requires to cultivate a long term business and client base.

I was excited to discover this place and equally disappointed when I tried to engage and make a purchase. Something is missing from this place, I think it is a heart. When someones heart isn’t into something, it just wont work.. Even the name feels out of place. I know it is a start up and it takes time, but I am not so sure I would go back. A good example to compare. I recently stumbled into plant world at 4000 Eglinton Avenue west and while it feels like it is on the other side of the planet. I wouldn’t think twice about going back all the way.
I hope they do well, it could be a nice addition to the neighbourhood.

I was excited to stumble upon a new nursery — I am always willing to pay more than Loblaws or Home Depot prices for plants when I get great information and service — unfortunately you won’t find that here. They seemed great — I had a $ 1,000 purchase I was looking to complete but needed more information — left name and number and waited. No call no information — called back lots of apologies, took name again NO CALL. I assumed they were just busy so. I called again — I really wanted to give them my business — talked to the person who was suppose to be calling me got information and I asked for a written quote — because a thousand bucks is a lot to me — gave email address and here we are over two weeks later and nothing — I guess they don’t need my money, my business or my reference. If my job wasn’t big enough or profitable enough for them they should have just said so — I would have moved on with no ill thoughts. But wasting my time pretending to want my business is rude… and this experience is one I’m happy to share with anyone thinking of shopping at Beech Nursery.
