Becoming Maternity and Parenting Centre

My husband I and I took a weekend prenatal class here, and while the teacher and class itself were fine, the business is very disorganized. When our class had to be rescheduled it was nothing but hassle with them trying to get it rescheduled once and then when something came up for 1 couple, they tried again to reschedule the entire class rather than just rescheduling the one couple. I repeatedly asked for a refund of half the fee when it became obvious that rescheduling wasn’t going to work and they were not willing to do that no matter what.
The only thing that saved them was that the teacher herself offered to do private classes to make up the missed day. They should count their blessings that she was so accommodating.
The store itself has some nice products, etc. but again it seemed such a hassle to buy something. Nothing worked — couldn’t pay by debit, couldn’t print a receipt, I don’t even know that they had change because she seemed awfully relieved that we managed to scrounge together exact change. All in all our experience was very frustrating. They need to get it together and to be honest, I’m amazed that such a disorganized business survives.
When I saw everything this place had to offer, I thought it might be a good resource for having our first baby. After this experience I won’t be returning to Becoming.

I took a prenatal baby CPR and first aid course through Becoming Maternity, and I couldn’t have been more disappointed. The teaching style of the instructor (a female paramedic) was incredibly disorganized, and very hard to follow. It felt like she was more interested in entertaining the «audience» with anecdotes and one-​off stories than actually teaching a group of new moms the type of valuable information that could save their baby’s life.
Due to the nonlinear teaching style, I have very little recall of the actual CPR methods or techniques. The class was just all over the place. There was also far too much time spent on a question and answer session that was dominated by uninformed women that would have greatly benefited from a copy of «What to Expect». This is NOT a CPR certification course, which may be why they can get away with the lack of solid information, and it’s ridiculously overpriced. We were unaware that this was not a certification course until the very end of the class!
When you are about to have a baby, you have this sense that you only have a limited amount of time — so much to get done before the baby comes! Do yourself a favour and avoid the classes at Becoming Maternity, as they are a complete waste of time and money. It’s 3 hours of my life that I’d like to have back. Find a solid, certification CPR course instead.
