Bakery & Kaffee Haus

Bakery & Kaffee Haus (originally BakeryHaus) is an European bakery shop that originated in Vienna, Austria. The company started as a distribution business, supplying baked goods to many grocery stores and coffee shops before its expansion to a retail space. The shop itself is a small storefront located inside of the quiet Queen Live Market. Besides coffee, Bakery & Kaffee Haus also offers an assortment of baked goods from donuts, cronuts, cookies, macarons, and more.
One of the coffees that they offer is the reasonably priced nitro coffee ($ 3.99). It’s essentially iced coffee that is treated with an odorless nitrogen, and served on tap. The drink from Bakery & Kaffee Haus was rich, creamy, and goes down smooth. Definitely a coffee that will keep you energized all morning.
I also got to try one of their cronuts. There are three flavors to choose from; original, chocolate, and nutella. I opted for the chocolate cronut ($ 3.25), as it looked quite good to me on display. Personally, prior to my visit to Bakery & Kaffee Haus, I never tried a cronut before, so I didn’t know what to expect. What is a cronut? It’s a pastry hybrid of a croissant-​doughnut created by Chef Dominique Ansel of NYC. The cronut from Bakery & Kaffee Haus had a nice crispy yet flaky texture of a croissant, and completely covered with delicious chocolate topped with nuts.
I also couldn’t help, but tried one of the macarons available. I ended up choosing the pistachio macarons ($ 2.49), which was pretty steep for the size. However, the macaron was really good with a nice crunchy exterior, and creamy filling that wasn’t overly sweet.

Quaint little walk in bakery – meaning only 4 stools to actually sit on… Quaint for their baked goods set up… I came here obviously for a Cronut… As on a Croissanted Donut… I had a choice to pick from three the original, chocolate and hazelnut… I chose the hazelnut. ummmm this Cronut had no taste was stale and tasteless… this place does give you 10% off your order when you check into Unilocal… for a Cronut that tasted like card board I paid $ 3.75…ate it half way, threw the rest out and left disappointed… ummm there were no fireworks here :-(

Walked in here for a coffee and walked out a very happy and more awake than I walked in so off to a good start
The staff is super helpful and attentive. The coffee is dark and flavorful and reasonably priced ($ 2.05 for a medium coffee including tax). The oasteries looked delicious but I didn’t get a chance to try them. They also had macron which seemed a bit pricy (6 for $ 15) compared to macaron prices in the US. Is there a macaron shortage in Canada?!

Coffee was good but my blue jays Cronut was quite stale. Service was pretty decent. I’m on the fence if I’ll be back.

Honestly this is the cutest little bakery shop that displays oh so yummy goodness in a very non pretentious way. So yes they are pricey but I’m sure it’s b/​c their rent must be high being on prime location on Queen W.
It’s tiny with a few stools by the window so you can drink, eat and people watch. Otherwise it’s more of a take it and go kinda place.
They have the cronut here but I really don’t have a sweet tooth so I just got ½ dozen macarons which were pricey at about $ 16 incl tax. Other pastry shops in the area are about the same price so they aren’t too out of line.
Service was lovely as there was only one person manning the station and while not super busy it still had a steady stream of customers while I was there.
This place really just screams lush. That perfect place to get a nice cup of coffee and pastry when it’s freezing cold outside… but alas not enough room
The macarons that I got were a variety (lavender, caramel sea salt, pistachio, etc) and while lovely they still can’t compete with my fave place in Paris. But a good solid effort. They come in a cute little box that makes them the perfect gift… for yourself :)

I got this because it’s right across the street from my work and I was craving a cronut. I didn’t know what to expect when walking into the building because I know there’s a few different places there but it kind of looked like a dump! Not as cute as I expected in the least bit! Oh well, cronut was good, iced coffee was okay, can’t complain!

There is only one true ‘Cronut’ and it isn’t found in Toronto. It would be best if people quit using the word to describe the imposters found here. It does such a dis-​service to the real thing.
Cronut is a croissant-​doughnut pastry invented by Chef Dominique Ansel and trademarked by his bakery in New York City. If you want a real one, go there! I did in May and it was so exquisite. I should have had 5.
The ones here are wannabes with fillings of lies!

FIRST THINGS FIRST– their macarons make me reevaluate my life because it seems like I’ve died and gone to heaven. That is all.
I would’ve definitely missed this shop if I didn’t spot the macarons in the window. Such a cute little bakery across a competing bakery. when I walked in, both sides stared me down until I chose one– bakeryhaus. Two guys working there, super friendly. Prices were not super cheap. macarons were $ 2.50ish each? About the same price as every other high end patisserie in toronto.
They also had other stuff like breakfast sandwiches, cronuts (which look like they’ve been dug up from last year and shrivelled in the sunlight) and other baked goods that looked good. Maybe I’ll return to try something else. Nah, let’s be honest. I’m going to be getting that banana chocolate macaron once again.

Go in and do ur self a favor, (on cheat day) ask for the cronut with a cup of coffee. A good treat for the end of the week.

Cutest littlest coffee and bakery shop. Delightful bakery and pastries, sandwiches and coffee.
Great stop while shopping around Queen Street.

While waiting for my order in the jerk joint I found this shop at the end of corridor! It has a very cute cozy layout! Everything looks delicious! Ordered cheesecake, one piece of cherry and another piece from the blueberry cheesecake! I personally preferred blueberry over the cherry cheesecake! I didn’t like the raisins stuffed in the cheese!
Customer service was great! Both employees were friendly!

Tried the popular Cronut. It is amazing! Definitely recommend to you. With the nice smell and unique taste of Croissant as well as the chewing feeling of Donut. It’s 2.99 before tax. The price is reasonable.
As for their Macarons, they are just okay not so great.
Besides, the decorations inside are very beautiful and attractive.

Being on the primal diet, this place was an absolute tease! Why did I decide to come here? Masochism? Attempt to test my will power? At last, I was strong enough to resist the picture perfect cronuts and colourful macaroons, and the 50% off pastries, to settle on a decaf soy latte. I’m fully aware of how lame this review is so I will make up for it in 5 weeks when I return to eat one of each baked goods this shop has to offer. Prepare for an update fellow Unilocalers!
P. S. The latte was good, my friend had the Nutella baked stick and a strawberry glazed donut, he enjoyed both thoroughly as I sat beside him… salivating.

What attracted me to this place instantly was their cute display showcasing an array of lovely donuts. I went a little gaga and hopped right in to this little store.
I have tried their nutella donut, nutella filled danish stick, apple custard danish and chocolate cronut.
I had asked one of the employees on what was popular and he mentioned the nutella donut and ever since then I’ve kept coming back. One of my favourite things about the place is that it’s quaint and classy and even though they charge a bit more for a pretty donut, they don’t judge me as I take my time to ogle their displays when trying to decide what I want. Moreover, I always ask for confirmation on an item if I’m unsure and they give me feedback. Thank you for being so attentive :)
Loved the nutella donut! And if you loved that, then try the nutella danish stick. Remember when Tim Horton’s had their chocolate danishes? Well, it’s sort of like that but with nutella, softer and more flaky (Imagine the beauty of that!). The apple custard danish was small but delish as well. Usually I get overwhelmed with fruits in tarts or danishes, but this was very subtle and light.
However, I was not pleased with the chocolate cronut. I had purchased it at the end of the day so I attributed it to staleness. It might even be a possibility that I’m just not a fan of cronuts.

Tried the nutella filled donut, raspberry macaroons, cronut and coffee there.
The macaroons were my favourite, not overly sweet with a nice texture. The nutella filled donuts was my second favourite. The coffee was decent and my first cronut ever was a disappointment. It didn’t taste as good as I thought it would. But I’d go back just for the macaroons. I have also tried the nutella and red velvet macaroons and they are delicious!

Pictures of the Cronut keeps popping up on my social media feeds, and I just had to try the infamous pastry for myself.
To be completely honest, the Chocolate Cronut would have been amazing if it was warm and fresh. I bought the Cronut at 9:00am in the morning too — Shouldn’t it be pretty fresh? I should try popping it in the oven next time — the cronut itself does not impress if you eat it as is, so I could not justify the price tag of almost $ 4 per Cronut.
After reading amazing reviews about their coffee and macarons, I regret not ordering them. Considering that this is an European boutique coffee shop, prices of every item is on the higher side — I don’t see myself coming here for my daily coffee. But, if you’ve never tried the Cronut, it’s worth a try. Who knows, you may like it better than I did!

I can only attest to the macarons thus far but I am looking forward to coming back and upping this rating to 5 stars once I try the other pastries — in particular, the cronuts and the Nutella twists.
They have a cute little store on Queen West and it takes a bit of looking for at first, but it’s not hidden. I purchased the half dozen macarons — for just under $ 15 — and thought that the texture of the macarons was incredible. Crunchy exterior but with a soft and chewy inside, and the filling was delicious as well. There are some fillings that are fruit/​jam based while others are cream/​caramel based. It offers a good range and the flavours — there are only six — include lemon and pistachio and chocolate, as well as salted caramel, among others.
I would definitely recommend the macarons, considering they go for an average price and taste above average! I will warn that they are a tad below the average size for macarons though…
Excited to return and try the coffee, sandwiches, and other pastries!

OH GOD AMERICANO TO DIE FOR. And I am an americano fiend.
It tasted like a beautiful woman — aromatic, bold without being overpowering, very round flavours, no rough edges that get caught in your mouth, lovely sensual after taste. Like being in a wooden cabin with a roaring fire while the rain beats the panes. Bundled up with a curvy Spanish woman with big lips. Hooked rugs and good art on the walls.
Yeah, that’s how this americano made me feel. A little reprieve from my day.

I wrote a review for «Bakery Haus» (as opposed to «BakeryHaus») before coming across this one. Same place. I have been there twice now and I am perplexed to see these negative reviews. I also don’t know why one Unilocaler 2 starred it because they found they didn’t like cronuts. I think that’s a harsh review considering everything else there is amazing.
I had the cronut yesterday and it was my first time ever having one. It tasted pretty much exactly like I expected — a croissant pastry cooked like a donut. It’s the same indulgent treat that made it a popular item at the CNE because it’s so decadent.
Aside from the cronut, I’ve tried their pain au chocolat, their donuts (the pink ones), and their croissants and I must say with complete honesty, that the croissant is one of the best I’ve ever had. Period. As for the pain au chocolat, I got one of those yesterday shortly after they pulled it out of the oven and it was yummy! And that was around 6:45 pm as I was killing a half hour before seeing a movie at Scotiabank Theatre.
I think they took a calculated risk opening a storefront in that awkward «mini-​mall-​hallway» building considering most other businesses who have set up there have not done well, but they were smart enough to make sure they got the booth at the front with a window.
It’s a good bet that many breakfast seeking CTV/​MUCH employees cross the street each morning to get their fix and since first trying their croissant I can see myself going in there whenever I’m in the area.
Granted it’s pricier than Tim Horton’s, but the quality of goods is far higher. As for the people who work there, I’ve seen the same people there both times I stopped by and they were friendly, not only to me, but all other customers who were lining up. They happily ribboned up boxes of goodies, smiled, and even gave me a free double espresso.
Anyway that was my experience. I like it there and would go again.

Great place to grab a snack and a hot beverage if you are in the area! The macaroons are really well made and are must try if possible. Service is quick and friendly.
Expect a line around lunch time as it tends to get a little busy by that time.
Americano for the win!
