Awol is a surprisingly nice little gallery on an otherwise over saturated street. This little store front gallery might be five hundred square feet. I saw a little coat room and there was just enough space in the entrance way for a table with buttons and fliers before you walked into the rest of the space. The adjoining room is just a small rectangle but large enough for large scale work and sculpture. I tend to like small galleries for one of two reasons, they either force you to focus on one or two artists or rotate their collections often. Many small galleries do both which means you’re never quite sure what you’ll find but it’s likely that you will find something you enjoy more often. I’m looking forward to going back and checking out more shows here.
