Anna’s Bakery & Deli

European baked goods — haven’t tried any better in Toronto for few years.
Homemade food — tastes good, though if you go for it — have it right away, since those are not always fresh enough, so might go bad in few hours.
Service — I would say, certain 3 stars, if you are used to Hollywood smiles on counters of Toronto stores.
Overall — love this place. Cheesecake and Baked rolls are beyond the top!

I have bought deserts from this bakery twice and both times was very disapointed. I bought the custard square which wasnt horrible but did not taste the way I shoukd have and was also slighty burnt. and yesterday I bought apple strudle (jablecznik), 3lbs of it, it was disgusting. not at all what it is supposed to taste like. I spend over $ 20 on the strudle and it just ended up going into the garbage. I will never go back to anna’s bakery and deli!

Ahhhhhh! Been going to Anna’s for years. The staffing can be questionable and seemingly unfriendly at times. The baked goods however never disappoint. Particularly big fan of the ‘horn’ or ‘antler’ things they sell. Still not sure exactly what they’re called.
Also, not to be overlooked, you can get a pretty mean tub of polish kapusta here!

Terrible — I don’t recommend.
I can’t figure out what was worse about this place — their food or their service. I got a big box of different cookies and to my disappointment they were tasteless and oily. I also got a poppy seed square, which was dry and too sweet.
The worst part was actually their service — I haven’t encountered such rudeness in a while. I asked the owner a few questions about the pastries, which she completely ignored just rolling her eyes, which made me feel unwelcome and fairy uncomfortable. She acted as though I was bothering her and as though I needed to get out as soon as possible. If the owner is bothered by customers she either needs to learn to serve them in a friendly manner or hire a part-​time help to do that for her. Meanwhile, I’m taking my business elsewhere.

The items looked great in the window. My husband and I went in and spent about $ 15 on different things. I have to say the pecan tart was good but we also got an apple strudel and when I got it home to cut it up I found mold on the bottom. Not only was I mad that there was mold on it but also that I just paid full price for an item that was clearly days old. Wouldn’t return, obviously.

I often frequent Anna’s Bakery for pirogies and traditional Polish doughnuts. If you’re looking for traditional Polish treats, I absolutely recommend Anna’s!
++Recommend: jam and custard-​filled doughnuts, jam-​filled cookies, cottage cheese pirogies.

My husband went there today to buy four strawberry tarts. His car was parked with in a block from the business and he came straight home. Upon coming home I unpacked the bag and noticed the box was upside down (It had to have been packed that way as there is no way it could have flipped itself!) My husband actually recalled the woman packing things poorly originally (she put the box on top of a bag of soft doughnuts… smart?) They were destroyed when I opened the box and looked like a someone had taken a hammer to them. We called and not only did the woman who was there (the owner? I have no idea) took absolutely no responsibility at all, she accused my husband of lying and tripping! seriously? over $ 12??? We went back, I put them on the counter, I told her I unpacked the bag myself which was tied, the box was upside down (her fault) she lied and denied it so I left them there and promised I had taken pictures and if $ 12 is worth some bad reviews to her then so be it. Rude staff, poor business practices!!! It would have cost her very little to offer to replace our order and would have went a long way in terms of customer service. On principal I would urge people not to go there!

Huge fan. Their Polish poppyseed rolls are only $ 3 for a half loaf, and very fresh. They also have a poppyseed cake mixed with plum jam that is out of this world.

Anna’s is a quality little Polish bakery, mostly featuring cookies and sweets. They do have a selection of frozen pierogies and other goods in the back as well.
Their jelly filled cookies are amazing when they’re cooked right now, but we’ve had a few that have been over cooked from time to time and it’s just not the same. Still, I find their pastries to be better than most in the area, and the price is about the same (which means not exactly cheap).
The staff is usually friendly if you greet them first with a hello, and how are you. Otherwise they are a bit cold, and just doing their job. The place generally looks clean, and they have the option to bag, or box your treats at no additional cost.
We’ll continue to go here, and they’ve been great for us over the years.

I won’t be buying food from here anymore. The baked goods are mediocre or sometimes not even yummy! I’d recommend the Sweet Gallery or Bread and Roses over Anna’s Bakery over this one any day. No healthy choices here either.

A credible Polish bakery with a few highlights — the jam cookies — and lowlights — the cakes of dubious vintage. Wide selection of frozen pierogies in the back AND generously sized/​ridiculously cheap cabbage rolls make this a worthwhile stop on any take out trot.

It was a lot more fun admiring Anna’s Bakery & Deli’s window from outside the store.

Actually eating one of those Paczki (poonch-​kee) was a big big disappointment!
Paczki is kind of like a doughnut with sweet filling (raspberry, custard, jam). The dough suppose to be rich and more heavy because it contains eggs, fats, sugar and milk.
Custard Paczki (80 cents)
— ratio of fillings to dough… 1:5… so all carbs… hardly any fillings
— It is dry and dough. and dense and tasteless…
— good to eat when you are on a diet! since you will not be finishing one.
There are some Polish hot food to go. but selections are minimum…
I hope I will experience a better Paczki someday… somewhere… for now. I am not eating one for awhile!

I bought this chocolate log thing. I don’t know what it was called, but anything chocolatey usually has my vote. It was hard as a rock. I took a bite. Tasted like fridge. I go back and complain about how it has probably sat there for weeks. I get my money back. Go to sweet flour bake shop to heal my poor tastebuds from that tainted fridge log thing.
End of story.

I like buying my pierogies here. They are in the back in the freezer and there are several varieties, meat, potato/​cheese, blueberry, etc. Anna’s sells the best pierogies at the best price $ 4.25 for a bag of 12.

Deeelicious. Being from the great and powerful «Shwa», home to all foods Eastern European, I’ve eaten more than my fair share of pierogies, cutlets and such. I was impressed. Seriously generous meat on the «meat on a stick» (I chose pork but there’s chicken too) and massive cabbage rolls. And the incredible smell of sweet baked goods when I walked in the door almost knocked me over! The only thing that stopped me from buying one of everything was the fact that I had just demolished a giant box of Halloween candy in 2 weeks. Anyfatty, I will definitely be heading back to Anna’s many times, but I think I will get off the subway @ St George instead of Jane to burn some calories first!

My family has been buying pastries and cookies from Anna’s for almost four decades. They have been around for ages and the quality is the same now as it was back when I was a kid.
They have lots of great cheesecake-​y type things as well as jam-​filled Polish donuts («ponchky»), frozen pierogies and candy, cookies and jams. But the «must have» baked good in this place is the jam sandwich cookies. They are unreal. Like I said, I’ve been eating these same cookies since I was a kid. You can buy them in ½ pound or 1 pound boxes for $ 4 or $ 7 flat and they are sooo good. Get an assortment of the basic round sandwich cookies (strawberry jam in the centre) as well as the cylindrical ones that are dipped in chocolate on one side. I could eat an entire box in one sitting.
Head to Anna’s in the morning to be sure to get the cookies when they’re at their freshest! Cash only.

Anna’s Bakery focuses mostly on pastries and sweets; the selection of breads and deli meats is pretty sparse. It seems to serve the local on-​the-​go lunch crowd, as weekday mornings will see a line of three or four at the counter. So it’s not a bad place to pick up a breaded cutlet and container of potato salad for a light meal; the prices for most things are reasonable, but not a steal.
It wouldn’t be a Bloor West bakery/​deli without a wide selection of imported, eastern European dry goods (such as Polish Kinder Surprise). There’s a freezer in the back with an impressive selection of frozen pierogies (including hard-​to-​find plum and strawberry varieties), although the price is significantly higher than those that can be found a few doors down at Karpaty.

There’s nothing like finding a little mom and pop bakery shop! Bloor West is the place to do it. There’s a number of bakery shops in the area, Anna’s is the farthest West on Bloor, nearing the end of all the shopping district in the area. It happened to be the only bakery shop opened on thanksgiving which was a nice surprise.
Anna’s window display can make even the fullest of full people want to eat up all their baked goods! They have them displayed nicely, from little individual size pumpkin pies, to brownies and jam filled cookies, every thing not only looks good, but it also cheap. The individual pumpkin pies are $ 1.50 each, brownies $ 0.75. It’s a nice change from bakeries charging $ 1.00 for a finger-​size cookie.
