Alexandra Hotel

I think the chances of this place formerly being used as an assisted living/​hospice business is high! The water in the shower had no self control. The positive reviews I read for this place, must have been written by the people who left lipstick marks and pubic hairs on the sheets.

When asked on their customer feedback form if I would suggest the hotel to others, I strongly would suggest they don’t.
Firstly the entire place smells of cigarette smoke — not just the entry where everyone is smoking, but in the elevator and even your own (non-​smoking) room when you open the door.
Other than the carpet needing a vacuum — I felt so much grit under my feet I stayed in shoes the whole time.
Oh and of course, the fire alarm in your room going off when you have a hot shower (this is Canada people — it will happen).
It was expensive for the state of the place, and while the area is good with a student vibe, but really — not worth the cost they charge you.

Clean, comfy, right downtown, cheap, AND w/​a kitchenette in every room! What!
I mean, Alexandra Park’s not the best at night, but really it’s harmless.

This place is not known for beauty. Rather its you stay at if you want to save some money and have convenience. Dont get me wrong, its not a dump either. It was fair.
The convenience of being right of Queen Street West makes and Bathurst, makes it worthwhile..
My only grievance is that the entrance smells like cigarette smoke. However, if you walk fast enough, you’ll be ok.

The Alexandra is not a «nice» hotel it’s a cheap hotel. If affordability is your primary metric, as it was mine on this trip, then you will be pleasantly surprised as among cheap hotels it’s pretty nice. Everything is old but maintained. Furniture is old and cheap but clean and functional. I give the a high review for this reason.

If you can’t afford $ 200 a night somewhere, but want to stay close to where the action is in Toronto, this is a perfect place. We didn’t plan on spending much time in our room, just needed a place to sleep so this was perfect. The rooms have a fridge, stovetop, microwave, and dishes to use. The room was clean. If you want something «luxury» this place isn’t for you but if you’re pretty easy to please, this is a nice place to stay. I would stay here again.

Stayed here while attending a conference. For the price it was a fine hotel.
Small rooms and no extras (public ironing boards only, etc.) but the rooms were clean and the service was friendly.

Not bad, really. I needed a place to stay that was close-​ish to downtown Toronto and could not afford the downtown prices. I chose to stay at Alexandra Hotel after reading a few reviews.
The hotel itself is ok. It’s a bit old and rundown. The elevator does door doesn’t close unless you press the old fashion button that says «close» and won’t go anywhere unless you push your desired floor. They also use REAL keys still!
The room was cozy. Nothing fancy but it contained everything I need and some tiny perks that made my stay a bit nicer. For example, there were extra blankets in the closet. The closet was a decent size. I stayed on the 6^th floor, which is the top floor I believe and I had a nice view of the park outside.
The room had a mini fridge, mini microwave, sink, desk, couch, queen size bed, heating and a/​c. The hotel has wireless which I didn’t expect but was pleasantly surprised. The bathroom was clean and had 3 body towels– which were a bit on the small side and 2 washcloths.
There was also a washer/​dryer located on my floor. The iron is communal and is located in the washroom. A hairdryer was available at the front desk for a $ 10cn deposit– which was refunded at the end of my stay.
Otherwise, the hotel is located about 4 blocks from Chinatown and Kensington Market– less if you cut through the park. It’s also located near clubs so if you like nightlife there is plenty to do or people to watch on Fri./Sat. nights. Also, the hotel is located a few blocks from the fashion district. It’s a bit like Melrose Bl. in Hollywood with many eclectic clothing shops. The area around the park by the hotel gets a bit shady at night I think but I didn’t see anything particularly disturbing myself.
It was between $ 10-​$ 15 CN to take a taxi downtown. I took taxi’s to and from downtown and walked all throughout downtown but I think you could walk to downtown in about 20 – 30 min.
Finally, I’d like to say that the staff at the hotel were really quite nice. They offered plenty of suggestions for things to do and where to eat. They called taxi’s for me whenever I needed a ride. After I checked out they even allowed me to leave my luggage at the hotel while I explored a bit before my flight. I would give the hotel 4 stars on service.
It was basically the type of hotel I needed for my 3 night stay. Nothing fancy, just a nice friendly place to get a good night’s sleep.
