Maguro Japanese Resturant

In my quest to find a sushi restaurant comparable to Vancouver, we ended up here randomly after shopping on the plaza.
The menu offered Korean food items in addition to standard Japanese rolls and sushi. It was definitely an interesting option and confusing to those expecting a true Japanese offering.
We ordered a bento box and bowl of udon. Quality was decent. The fried chicken in the bento box was a highlight. It was Korean style fried chicken with a drizzle of spicy sauce. I ordered udon and the broth tasted that of the store bought variety and not homemade. Tempura was fried nicely and I enjoyed the crispy texture. It was a nice attention to deal that it was served on the side.
Service was average. Nothing bad nor was it outstanding. Food arrived in decent time.
The dining experience was alright. I think I will continue to explore the neighbourhood. There is ample parking on the plaza.

This place has all the standard rolls and sushi. I was surprised by how fresh the sashimi is!

My fav roll there is the crazy boy roll. I like that everytime I order it, it always looks different. Not sure if its on purpose but best crazy boy roll out there especially for a small local sushi joint :)

It was just ok.
There are many places around there that have the same quality of food but for cheaper.

We had reservations for 3 people for my birthday dinner. Seated promptly at honestly the dirtiest table ever seen, and then when I told the oblivious waitress we could not even touch the sticky sauce pooled table, she proceeded to wipe all the food and crumbs and sauce all over us as we sat there. WOW. great start to the night… Cant even believe she did that to this day. I was appalled.
So we order our food, I’m just happy to be back at my fave sushi place of all time beside Tojo’s. I get all the different rolls I ordered and FOOD WAS AMAZING and the only saving grace to the night and this review. Order anything on the menu and it’s top notch. Even the tempura is executed well. Sashimi that’s crisp clean and fresh tasting. Only negative for the food, I notice the rolls were kind of warm by them time we got them. Too much handling and the fish warmed up, I hate that shit. Raw fish should be served cold, even carpachio that’s been seared on the outside, should be cold!
Rolls are smaller than they used to be FOR SURE though. making the price higher for people who eat a lot like me. I used to consider it a great price, now its kind of pricy due to the size of rolls. I ordered Two Big mike rolls a couple weeks after my birthday dinner, and they were just normal sized rolls. For $ 10 a roll. I expected them to be the same BIG mike rolls they used to be 4 years ago. They are HALF the size they used to be. Disappointing. The menu has always been an issue here. there are tons not listen on the menu, and some of the things on the wall are hard to read, and also I feel not all listed.
ONE thing I have to say is, I don’t like it when I have a person ague with me when I KNOW what I’m talking about. One of the staff who even admitted they only worked there for 3 years, decided they knew better than me and argued that, they never had a good selection of sake. BULL. 4+ years ago I was there with legendary friends and we had the best sushi night of our lives because the food AND THE AMAZING SAKE SELECTION that we greedily drank and still talk about to this day.
WORST WAITRESS EXPERIENCE EVER! Honestly if I was paying for that bill I would have thrown a HUGE stink about the horrible service. And not tipped anything. She is extremely rude and extremely inconsiderate of customers. I feel she was responsible for my horrible experiences on multiple occasions.
They are so far out for me to get to, Its not really worth the trip anymore, I’m looking for my new favorite sushi place now. Ill come here if I cant find anything better.
Price $$$ for **service and ***food

Great hwedopbab, friendly service, and very reasonably price. Their soondoobu wasn’t very good. I think I will stick with hwedopbab from now on.

Have gone to Maguro numerous times as we live close by. Consistently very good — service is always friendly, awesome rolls, dinner combo’s and sashimi. and is always very very clean inside.

If the restaurant wants to succeed, they need to fire this Chinese waitress who has no idea what service is.
She is extremely rude and extremely inconsiderate of customers.
I’ve been eating here several times and I am disappointed every time this waitress takes my order.

Maguro is a few blocks away from my gym, and after reading Dan L’s review above, I thought I’d give the sashimi here a try (post workout protein anyone? lol)
I opened up the menu but was a bit disappointed when I didn’t see «Spicy Tuna Sashimi» on the menu. But when the waitress came around I asked for it anyway, and she wrote it down on her pad without flinching — sweet, I was in business! A few quick moments later I had in front of me 8 generous sized pieces of Tuna laying on a bed of lettuce and radish, the whole plate drizzled in a bright orange spicy sauce. ¹⁰⁄₁₀ for presentation, it looked fantastic! «How’d it taste?» you’re asking. This was some of the best (and spiciest) spicy tuna sashimi I’d ever had, just the way I like it! The sauce was unique — very spicy, so beware. The tuna was fresh, at the perfect temperature and most of all it tasted great! I’m definitely coming back here for more.
My friend had a spicy tuna roll and one of their speciality rolls and he loved them both. The ambience was clean, simple but tastefully decorated and the service was kind and prompt. Tea refills came even before I had a chance to finish my cup.
I’d give it 4.5÷5 if I could, but I can’t so its ⁴⁄₅ =)

Usually when I see huge cuts of sashimi and sushi I think it is because they have to make up for quality. Maguro has the triple combo punch with big quantity, excellent quality, and awesome price. If you are hungry, you must order the Deluxe Sashimi/​Sushi Combo! This was a great find for a guy from out of town.
