Bruce Clark & Son Plumbing & Mechanical

I did a complete bathroom gut, and went with Bruce Clark and Son after getting 4 quotes in total. Jamie Clark is very well known in the Markham/​Unionville/​Stouffville area, and he has been doing renovations and plumbing for years, adding to his Father’s long legacy.
This renovation was completed with results above my expectations, and I would recommend them as high quality contractors, with a priority on clean, quality work, and design sense.
My job took longer than expected, but in all fairness, the important elements were installed quickly (tub/​shower, toilet, floor, vanity) with the fan installation, towel rods and paint touch ups at a slower pace. I had indicated that I was fine with these elements being slower; and Jamie was always touching base by email and phone.
Bruce Clark and Son was not the «cheapest» of the 4 quotes I got, but it wasn’t the most expensive. Once I started shopping around for tiles, vanity and taps, I discovered the company is very well known with suppliers, so I felt confident that the company was well established — I knew they would not just disappear with my deposit, or start the job and just stop showing up. Bruce Clark and Son is a long established independent company, but you won’t pay the high cost of going with a Home Depot type sub-​contractor.
For tiles, Jamie suggested Ontario Tile in Markham, on Bullock St. He directed me to Roberta, the «tile lady» who has a knack for color, shape and texture. Roberta helped suggest the combination that is now my bathroom, right down to the grout and paint color. I also ordered my Ceasarstone vanity top from Ontario Tile.
Jamie also suggested Whitby Plumbing in Whitby for a great selection of low to mid priced vanities, tubs and taps. It is a plumbers’ supplier, but open to the public. They ordered a tub which I had seen on the internet, and ordered me a low priced MDF vanity, which I had custom-​made because I wanted swing-​open cabinets instead of drawers. There was no charge to make this customized change! Whitby Plumbing holds your large items in the back room, until your contractor is ready to install.
Across the duration of my job, I got to meet a great crew who are very polite and friendly, and a pleasure to have around. This is important, because these are contractors that you have in your personal space, and around your kids, for full days. I had Brent doing the demolition, with Mike doing most of the work, as well as Jamie and Chris when needed.
If you are lucky enough to get Mike, feel totally confident. He is a certified Master Plumber, — and… You will know if it’s the REAL Mike because he has a tattoo of a plumbers wrench on his calf. Mike is an artisan; his work is meticulous and clean, and he is highly experienced with all aspects of plumbing and renovating. The previous home owners of my house had done some odd Do-​It-​Yourself plumbing (which was totally wrong), which Mike corrected at no additional charge.
Mike suggested that the shower tiles go up and over the tub, enclosing it for water-​proofing and design, and suggested the pattern for the floor tiles. The tiling, grouting and painting was flawless; he is very focused on the finishing details which have made my washroom look like it’s a showroom in a model home, or part of a home show display.
I would recommend Bruce Clark and Sons because 1) It is well established. You are not vulnerable once you give a deposit — this is a long-​established family business. 2) Assistance with selections. Jamie has a great knowledge of what’s available in the marketplace. 3) Staffing. Jamie has a crew which he has built over time. The «guys» are careers contractors, and they are pleasant people to have in the home. 4) This is an honest review; I discussed that the job was slower than initially forecasted.
I did a lot of research, and am very happy with my new bathroom.
