I’m hooked on Sam’s Pizza(Pictou County pizza sauce aka brown sauce) now. The first time I ate there, I was forewarned that the sauce was unique. So I was mentally prepared for the worst BUT… it is damn good pizza. It took a few tries before actually getting«hooked» but now it’s hard to have regular pizza LOL. While you can now buy the sauce at Sobeys(which we do when we run out of our stash bought directly from Sam’s or gifted to us by peeps that know we like it)… It’s a nice treat to get out to Sam’s when in town. Good service and they have good sides too(a boat of salad, yum)! and garlic fingers. They have a big menu too but I don’t go often enough to warrant venturing beyond pizza and I’ve only tried a few types of pizzas from there. So… Two thumbs up from me and 4 – 5 stars!

My wife is from Pictou county and every time we visit we go. We have friends who bring us some to Ontario when they come for a visit. One of the very best pizzas out there. Donairs are exceptional too.

This pizza makes my heart sing. My Dad grew up in Pictou County and so every family trip«back home» involved a stop at Sam’s for pizza. It’s perfect. The unique and famed brown sauce, the premium Brothers pepperoni, the thinly sliced mushrooms and green peppers and thick layer of cheese make their«combination pizza» world class(in fact even better than pizza made in Naples, Italy which I’ve had several times). This pizza is so good that my parents always purchase 6 – 10 more pizzas to take home and put in their freezer and I usually buy a couple to fly back with me to Toronto. Its so good that I don’t share it with anyone once I’m there! To make a long story short, Pictou County pizza is amazing, it blows my mind that it hasn’t become a national Canadian delicacy and I will risk food borne illness by leaving it out way longer than I should on the trip back to TO.

Sam’s is an institution in my town great pizza great Pictou county pizza but could nt give 5 stars as their quality of pizza is sometimes not consistent. Their food otherwise is good.

Ah Sam’s…I grew up on this pizza for the first 20 years of my life. I remember waiting in the car across from the tracks while my father picked up a fresh pie. They always had awesome suckers for kids to enjoy and friendly service. The sauce is very unique, almost like an italian gravy without a drop of tomato essence. Nice thick gooey layers of cheese, unlike the chain shops(i.e. pizza hut) that have so little fromage that it becomes a part of the crust, crispy and tasteless. I have a huge bias but the taste of this pizza will never escape my palate’s memory for the rest of my life.

Having grown up on New York style pizza, I tend to be quite picky when it comes to pizza. That being said, I found Sam’s Pizza while looking for a quick bite to eat after a long day of traveling during my vacation. I first walked into the restaurant portion of the restaurant, which had quite the 70s motif. Since I was looking just for takeout, I was directed to another part of the restaurant with a separate entrance(and as I was told by the hostess, that the takeout prices could be less expensive). At the takeout section of the restaurant, I ordered a small donair pizza. The serving size was adequate and the pizza had a sweet taste to it(mind you, I’m used to a much tangier pizza sauce). The pizza was decent for a meal, but nothing I could get too excited over.

I grew up eating pizza from this place and no matter where I go I have not been able to find any other pizza that I like as much as Sam’s. If you are travelling through the Pictou County area I highly recommend you stop and try the Pizza here — they use Brother’s pepperoni, Saputo Cheese and have a great spicy pizza sauce!
