Description

Specialties

Children are exposed to reading, writing, counting, number and letter recognition, geography, and the Montessori philosophy of learning each day.

We use songs and chants to facilitate the learning of the calendar, months of the year, days of the week, number of days in school and we encourage daily public speaking.

We introduce cultural studies, botany and zoology, geometry, mathematics, phonetic awareness and a large assortment of practical life activities.

Children have small daily assigned individual tasks, group circle time and group snack time, but most of their time is spent choosing Montessori materials designed to challenge thinking skills, problem solving, manual dexterity and concentration.

Staff circulates quietly among the students as they work, checking for understanding and making presentations of new challenges for the children whenever required.

History

Established in 1995.

Global Child Montessori was previously Providence Montessori Children’s Centre, located in Sturgeon Heights School. We moved to a much larger facility at Appleyard Square in Akinsdale during the summer of 2010. We decided to change the name as well as the location.

We are constantly upgrading our Montessori equipment and our Montessori training. We have one fund-raiser per year, and the proceeds are used to pay for field trips, purchase new or replacement equipment, and professional development. We limit the size of our classes and provide staffing to keep the ratio of adults to children at 1 to 5.

Our Mission… As part of our ongoing commitment to provide the highest quality of instruction, at Global Child Montessori we strive to model the knowledge, values and behaviors of the Montessori community of practice and present children’s work accurately and completely, and support learners as they reproduce that work.
