The triage nurses and booking staff were kind and polite. I was admitted right away to a room and the nurse was nice but check ins were few and far between and it was NOT busy on this evening. I had my allergies on file, codeine being one, and twice they tried to send me home with pills with codeine that can send me into anaphylaxis shock. I was sent home without being able to still properly stand or walk and told to hurry as my room was needed, but no nurses could help me dress(my husband was sent home as I was told I was spending the night and then discharged at 4am instead of 7 like initially told). I expect this from all Alberta health services hospitals. They don’t seem to care of the patient, clearly have no knowledge of the prescriptions they are writing(the pharmacist at shoppers drug caught that codeine was in the THIRD prescription they wrote me and faced it off to be changed) and just push you out. My room was in view of Dr. J who was helping me who sat at a computer eating fruit and noodle bowls and coffee while nurses kept pumping me with morphine. The nurses were kind and triage… that’s why I give it two stars. Everything else is worth nothing. Get it together AHS.

I took the Hubba Hubby here this summer as he was having some unexplained pain and we had a good experience from start to finish. It’s easy to get to as it’s just off Yellowhead and Cloverbar so while it is on the North East side of Sherwood Park, it’s accessible by major roads. And bonus, the parking is free here — which is awesome when you don’t know how long you’re going to be there for. We found the hospital to be clean and bright and saw the cleaning staff often. It was quiet when we went — a Tuesday at 8am — so we got into a room fairly quickly to get looked at. The staff were all super friendly and the Doctor was really personable. After running multiple tests without being able to find anything, the Doctor came to chat with us about what he thought the pain could be, relating to his own personal experience with severe heartburn(which we think it was as it went away and it has never come back — knock on wood). We appreciated how empathetic he was and how relate-able the Doctor was. We truly felt like he tried everything he could and we were satisfied with the outcome. As the«visitor», I appreciated how many plug ins I could find as my phone was quickly dying while I was working on it — and I wasn’t about to unplug machines to plug in my phone(and my chargers were all dead). All in all, the Strathcona Community Hospital would likely be our hospital of choice as it is still so new, clean, and fairly quiet when we were there. Mostly though, we really appreciated the service we received and the empathy from all of those who looked after us at some point or another!

DONOTGOHERE. I just walked out without seeing a doctor because of the terrible treatment I got. I got there at 12:30 to see a doctor for a packing/dressing change on an incision from Tuesday. The front end staff were great, very friendly and quick to get me registered. I only had to wait maybe 15 minutes to get into a room but that’s when everything went downhill. They put me in the room and no one came to check on me or anything after. After about an hour and a half, I went and found someone to see if I had a few minutes before the doctor came so I could go outside, they didn’t ask for my name or check to see how many people were ahead of me. Just said«I don’t know how long it will be, you can risk it if you want but you’ll probably be here longer.» Then about half an hour later, they brought a new patient in to the room across from mine. He waited for about 10 minutes before the doctor came to see him. He was there because he had a cold for a week and was still sick. Hospitals are supposed to see more urgent patients first, I don’t see how a cough is more urgent than a packing change from a surgery. I went to leave and the nurse asked me why so I explained that I had been waiting almost three hours and that the doctor went and saw a patient who got there two and a half hours after me who just had a cold before coming to see me, and that if the doctor wasn’t coming to see me right now that I was leaving. Again she didn’t ask for my name or check to see how many people were ahead of me, just simply responded with«ok have a nice day«I just had surgery, I should be at home resting. Not waiting three hours for the doctor to deal with a cough before my dressing change. I’m never going back there and I strongly recommend that no one else does. I’m placing a complaint and I’m going to make sure that everyone knows about the terrible care and attitude from them.

I should have read these reviews before wasting my time going to this horrible place. The waiting time online under Alberta health services said 30 minutes for this hospital but I waited two and half hours with a small baby until I decided to leave. No explanation or even an estimation of when you will be seen even though the waiting room was empty .Save yourself and go somewhere else. If I only knew!

DONOT go here. Save your life and health. Go to a reputable hospital. A friend spent 7 hours waiting for a needle to be removed from her foot and after a severely botched and unsuccessful attempt at removal she ended up being stitched back up and sent home with a promise of «someone» calling her in a «few» days to deal with its removal. After watching it swell badly and redden, thankfully she took it upon herself to go a day later to U of A hospital where they were clearly appalled at the state she had been sent home and told her this should never have been done. After an hour reopening the surgical sight the very competent doctor at the U of A was finally able to remove the object and resuture the sight. We were warned of the probable negative consequences of infection from this obvious malpractice. This entire process would have been completely and positively remedied by initially going to a reputable hospital. This is the third person I know attempting to use this facility with appalling consequences.
