This place has gone to cr@p! I don’t know what happened, we use to order take out and dine in from here all the time. They have cut back on items in dishes ie. Shrimp, ordered Cantonese chow mein and 1 piece of shrimp in dish. Under cooked food ie. Schuzen beef the batter was raw and undercooked and even the lemon chicken was raw. It seems they have cut quality for dollar value. I hope they can pick it back up, it use to be a great place to eat but sure has slacked off over the last year or so.

We have been going to Huku at least once every couple of months for a few years now and have enjoyed the food, and while service was sometimes a bit slow it was never terrible, and Megan(who serves and pretty much runs the place) was always very nice and knew us all by name.(I left a decent review for them here back in 2013). However, this last time we went it was around 4:30pm as we had to be someplace by 6. There was only one other couple in the restaurant, and we ordered right away; an older lady brought water and green tea within 5 minutes, then nothing… we sat and waited and waited. We kept trying to catch someone’s eye, but no one would even look at us, let alone stop by and let us know why our order was taking so long(meanwhile take out orders were consistently going out the door, and new tables who had come in after us were being served). Finally at 5:35pm when my husband got up to go ask Megan why our order was taking so long, he was told in a rude tone it was because a couple of our group of 5 had ordered a «dinner for one», and that our order wasn’t even being cooked yet! We were so angry and frustrated we just got up and left. This was just so disappointing after so many years of giving them our business. We won’t be going back, ever.

Found a small black curly hair in my wonton soup :( I kept eating it because my fortune cookie said to «conquer your fears or your fears will conquer you!» I won’t go back, nothing special.

Update: to one star. Very poor service, food is WAY worse than it used to be. We ordered our usual(almond chicken, ginger beef, stir fry veggies and egg fried rice without meat). The chickens sauce was cold, the rice was chocked full of meat and right as our order was coming out they told us they were sold out of ginger beef! Why couldn’t they tell us sooner?! They told us we could order something else in place of the ginger beef, which we asked to see a menu and by the time the server came back we had finished the rest of our(horrible) food. Also took them 15mis to bring my son water he asked for and my husband also asked for water and never got it. We weren’t once asked how the food was and when we went up to pay, we didn’t tip(it’s obvious why) the girl was VERY snobby because of our lack of tip! Very disappointed.

For the most part, a chinese restaurant is a chinese restaurant. They all serve the same food and most of the time you get mediocre portions with excessive soupy mess drowning the veggies and meat. Huku is good. It reminds me of the Chinese restaurants I visit in Vancouver. Friendly staff, good flavoured food and at a decent price.

The best non fast food sit-down Chinese restaurant in Sherwood Park. Their won ton soup is to die for! Their seafood dishes are fresh and delicious. Don’t forget to order special tea. It isn’t on the menu but they have a huge selection of Chinese tea. Be sure to ask for the Blooming tea! And Megan is the sweetest waitress you will ever meet!

I love this place. The owners are so nice and friendly and unassuming. They make me feel welcome whenever I come in and even remember me! My husband and I come here often for dinner and we are always pleased. Although usually way too full! tThe restaurant seems to be busiest at lunch time as we have never had a big wait at dinner. I am not sure if that is just because people tend to think of Chinese as a lunch kind of meal. We like this restaurant for dinner because it doesn’t blare loud music(no, I am not THAT old, really!!) and we can talk and relax easily. Now, for the food… The onion cakes are excellent — always very hot and fresh, soft and fragrant and full of flavour. I am also a big fan of the ginger beef — spicy, crunchy and fresh tasting. The rice is authentically Chinese — not minute maid mush like some places! Make sure you ask about their selection of tea — if you request it, they have an incredible blooming tea that tastes like caramel. My husband and I often have dinner for under $ 50 and leave with enough leftovers for lunch the next day.

I’m very skeptical when it comes to Chinese food as it rare that it is done well. Huku is an example of why one should be wary. Unfortunately Sherwood Grill was closed on the night(closed forever actually) I decided to take my mom out for dinner so we drove by Huku and decided to give it a go. For appetizer we had the Egg Roll and Spring Rolls, since we couldn’t decide on which to try. The spring rolls were actually decent, the menu stated that they used fresh Chinatown ingredients, and they tasted as though this was true. The egg roll however was a little over breaded for my tastes. I also wanted to try some Dim Sum, as I have never had it before, but they were out of pork dumpling so instead I tried the shrimp dumplings and was once again underwhelmed. The dumpling itself was okay, but the shrimp just didn’t have good flavour. For our mains we got Beef Chow Mein, Steamed Rice, and Shrimp Balls. The Shrimp balls were quite good actually, although the breading was once again heavy. The Chow Mein noodles had an odd flavour that I have never before experienced in a Chow Mein, my mom likened it to a fishy taste, and the beef was subpar at best. The rice tasted fine, but honestly if you can’t do rice well you shouldn’t open a Chinese restaurant. We had 2 separate servers during the night, one that took our order and one that brought out the food. Our first server was friendly and accommodating, however the second didn’t smile until we coaxed one out of her with a little conversation(my mom was not impressed). Anyways… overall the place was sort of what I’m used to with Chinese food, unimpressive. I’m really starting to wonder if anywhere in Edmonton does good Chinese.

Clean, fast, friendly, innocuous American-style Chinese food. Nothing remarkable.
