The service was great. The food is decent. The prices are fair. For the mains there’s a lot of option and there’s also a lot of great deals if you want to eat for cheap.

Food and service was really good(chicken Caesar wrap, quesadillas, Jack Daniels burger). So happy to be able to find food that good at 12:30 am in Sarnia, Ontario.

What can I say other than Stokes is a staple in the Sarnia area. I don’t know if it’s the nostalgia, the food, the TV’s roaring on game night, or the beer(likely a good portion due to that last one) but I still adore this place. If you do go here stick the basics, they usually don’t disappoint(Wings, Nachos, Fish & Chips — any type of pub food really). And while you’re at it grab a beer and watch the game cause let’s be honest… that’s why you’re there.

This is the grossest place I’ve eaten at in a while, and every time I’m suckered into going with friends, I leave angry or disappointed. The food is awful, simple as that. We had a birthday party here once for a friend of mine and staff was almost nowhere to be found. Seating was cramped and awful, and I felt like they could have put us somewhere that wasn’t against a wall in a corner? Secondly I came here on a date and wanted something small. The garlic bread I got was normal toast with a kraft cheese slice on it. Are you kidding me? The manager was so embarrassed, the poor lady didn’t make me pay, which was nice but, if you are embarrassed of the food going out, why don’t you change it? Menu selection is really bad, I have a tough time ordering anything here. I try really hard never to come here. You should do the same.

Sarnia has lost two to franchise restaurants in the last 5 years(Kelsey’s and Montana’s) Stokes has been in the community forever, but I was a little underwhelmed. The restaurant buy the Water is HUGE, however it felt more like a big dining lounge with to many rooms, and it had a musty smell when you first walked in. I thought the restaurant may have been upgraded inside and modern but you can tell it hasn’t changed since the 80’s. The service was fine, and the food was decent but overall for the main attraction for the city I felt they could do more!

I went with two co-workers on a Monday night. There was only one waitress working, and she said they closed the dining room, so we had to sit at a high-top table by the bar. Shortly after we arrived, the place filled up fast. Soon they re-opened the dining room. The solo waitress was running around like a chicken with her head cut off, but doing a good job of keeping all of the patrons happy. Everyone in the bar area(including the 3 of us) was thirsty for beer. I ordered the only steak that was on the menu — it was a NY steak. It was also the most expensive entrée on the menu I think, at 19.99. I ordered medium-rare, and it was cooked right, but I’ve had better NY steaks. One of my amigos ordered a half rack of ribs and he said they were tasty. I’m giving this place 3 stars because we would have preferred to sit in the dining room and I expected a few more steak choices(You’d think if a place is known for their ribs, they’d have more than 1 choice for steak, ya know?).

Our audit group met up here on our last night in Sarnia. We had presented a preview of our findings to Site Management and felt relieved that not only were our findings pretty much accepted, but that we were going home the next day. It had been a very intense 2 weeks, that had gone by very quickly. Stokes is a fun place to go and is located in a very pretty place along the Sarnia waterfront. The place is after work casual, is usually busy and most of the people there seem to be happy. There’s a bar up front and in season, there’s always a hockey game on. Live entertainment and Wi-fi are also offered. We sat in a quiet back corner, we could just talk, laugh, and unwind. A few of us also noticed that this Stokes(there’s another one in the Lambton Mall area) plays some really neat background music(on non-entertainment nights) featuring various oldies that I particularly like. Lay Lady Lay… A few of my colleagues had already been here a few times during our trip. They raved about the ribs and the fish and chips. I was more in the mood for a burger and the Jack Daniel’s fit the bill for me perfectly. I also gave myself away as an American when I ordered the burger and asked for it medium rare. Apparently, its the law in at least Ontario that all burgers have to be cooked medium and that there are no other options. Stokes would most definitely be one of the places I would go to again the next time I’m in Sarnia.
