The Tree-House Cafe

Oh cool! It’s like you’re in a tree house. I had a roasted chicken quesadilla with Lebanese lentil soup. Was fine! My coffee was really good.

Great service and ambience. Tried the beef burger which was absolutely delicious. Our waitress, Lisa was genuinely nice and attentive. We enjoyed the live music and hte cozy environment.

You hardly need to write a review of this place as the lines are already out the door. But what a delightful place. And what great food. I ate there several times and everything we ate was superb. The service was excellent. The setting is charming.

This is pretty much THE place to eat in Ganges, for locals and tourists alike. Accordingly, it is popular, crowded, understaffed, and often has long waits for a table. Do understand that Salt Spring is an island, so their hiring pool is kind of limited, and they absolutely can’t call in any additional staff to deal with a rush. So, some patience! The staff are very nice, and they haven’t forgotten about you.
The tree house has live music pretty much every night during the summer. If there’s a good, popular band, arrive by 6pm or be prepared to wait over an hour for a table. Open Mic nights (Tuesdays) are generally pretty easy, but there’s an obvious reason for that.
For the food, it’s «gourmet hippie-​granola northwestern», with a mix of grilled salmon dishes and interesting vegetarian options. The best thing we had there was a grilled haloumi and vegetables platter, so don’t be afraid to try stuff which is a bit strange-​sounding.

Cute little spot with good food, near environment, and lots of live music. Worth checking out.

Always enjoy dining here, and is a space that definitely has to be experienced! Live music every night, and filled with awesome Salt Spring charm. Sometimes a bit of a wait to get a table, but once seated, service is quick. The Bang Bang Shrimp was especially great this time around!

I was very disappointed.
The first time I went it was great! They had a lovely vegan option and their chai latte was incredible.
Went back this weekend and they no longer had that option which was fine. I was just hopping there would be at least one vegan and gluten free option that wasn’t simply a green salad .
For salt spring I was hoping more environmentally and cruelty free options from a place called «tree house».
My mother found a piece of plastic in her meal! Thankfully she didn’t choke.

The lamb burger was ridiculously good. My first stop in Salt Spring Island, and I’m thoroughly impressed!

Great café in the heart of Ganges that really is a café wrapped round a tree. On the minus side, it makes for sometimes cramped conditions with limited seating. On the plus side the atmosphere is great, the brunch dishes that my family had were all very tasty, they had paper and crayons for the kids and the coffee was, of course, excellent.

Try the Wired Monkey, chocolate, coffee and a banana blended together topped with a little whipping cream. Yumm.

Needs a Vegan Option on the menu!
Located in the heart of Ganges, in a heritage cottage next to Mouat’s, the island department store. Tree House has live music under the stars every night of the summer (111+ nights). It’s a unique eatery, and I highly recommend stopping by. There is not a single vegan item on the menu, however there is a long list of vegetarian items, and they are happy to omit the dairy. I suggest going during the summer catch a show, and enjoy a meal under the plum tree. They also have a downloadable menu for one to pre plan their meal.

First things first: Major hat tip to the serving staff.
I arrived during the noon rush, and received fast, courteous, friendly service.
I had a cheeseburger ($ 13) with a small Caesar salad. It arrived in about 15 minutes. It showed a tiny bit of pink in the center, but it tasted so darned good I decided it was a trivial issue. The burger was delicious, albeit expensive for my budget, and my companions assured me that their veggieburgers were so good they actually tasted like hamburgers.
This is a place where you pay for the dining experience AND the food. For that reason, I’d say the burgers were worth their cost — make a point of trying one the next time you’re on Salt Spring Island.

If you want to listen to great live music or comedy outdoors in the Saltspring summer, this is your place to go. Its stuck in the crest centre of a large tree in the middle of town, on the water… such a cute location to grab a bite and a beer.
However, you will need to understand that the service is terrible. Not because they don’t care, in fact, they are friendly and accommodating, but they are often terribly understaffed and overcrowded on music nights. Arrive early, or prepare to fight a hippie for a seat, as some locals sit there all day and night not even drinking or eating, working slowly over a herbal tea.
The food is pretty decent, but again, can fall victim to the overcrowded busy insanity. People are all around waiting for a table, and the kitchen can get a bit kerfuffled by the backlog in orders, but in my view, its worth it, just come a bit before the rush. They will remedy any issue and overall the food which takes advantage of local organic produce is very tasty.
If you come for breakfast try the huevos rancheros with avocado or the locally made tofu scramble. For lunch or dinner try their burgers (lamb and homemade veggie burgers are amazing), goat cheese balls, and my all time favorite, the yam quesadilla… in fact, I wish they would jar their mesa red sauce… its beyond delicious. I know a place is good when their vegan items are so delicious, I can forgo my meat longing for the night.

Nice. Stopped by when we stayed a few days on our boat. This is a happening spot… always crowded, but they seem to fit you in. Had breakfast once and lunch another visit. Both were outstanding.

I had the Mexican breakfast and thought it was pretty good. My sister had the huevos rancheros and was not impressed. She also hated the coffee. I had Frangelico in mine so I was happy. She is not pleasant to dine with when she’s not liking the food so overall I have to give it a 3… Plus the service was only a 3.5 to both our standards but I will give it another go next time. Alone.

The Tree-​House Café is the happening spot on Salt Spring. We tried it out on the recommendation of one Harry Warner and were not disappointed. Good food, great music, and a really nice outdoor seating area. On a night worth being there, you might have to wait a bit for a table since it’s a popular spot. Definitely stop by if you find yourself on island.
Star Sighting: Pretty sure I saw Raffi there.

Just returned from bc day long weekend on saltspring. Took in the entertainment and meal here Sunday night — woodstock. What a hoot, loved it, Lots of Jimmy Hendrix songs. Some talented locals. One guy played the national anthem (Canadian) Jimmy Hendrix style. Absolutely awesome. Good, good guitar playing. Food pretty good, wait staff mediocre… but give them some credit as very busy. A fun time.

The place is always crowded. It’s not so great on a cold day, since it is mostly outdoor seating and the covered area fills up quickly, but it’s worth some inconvenience. Yes, a tree grows up through the middle, hence the name. The food choices for lunch were fantastic, with many vegetarian options. The lattes were the best in town. Be sure to drop in when in Ganges.

Three cheers for Treehouse Café & their amazing nightly live music line-​up, throughout our season… May to October. This year, it’s called Music Under the Stars, & it’s 111 nights of talent, for our benefit. Oh, yes, their breakfasts are super, same with coffees/​baked goods, lunch, dinner (love their wild salmon)…a sweetie spot under the tree, open to nature during the summer, & creatively enclosed for winter… this is one of the destination eating places on the Island, just steps from the Boardwalk, & in the heart of Ganges Seaside Village… meantime, keep on keeping on, with the music scene…

This place is a gem on Salt Spring Island. We were trying to go to Bruce’s Kitchen when we discovered they closed early than they said they would. Highly disappointed, I asked the locals for food recommendations and they said to go to the Tree house Café. It’s an actual restaurant in a tree house!
The menu was cool. They use a lot of local ingredients. It wasn’t too expensive. The servers are super friendly! I got the huge lamb burger with cheese on it. I’ve never had a lamb burger before and it was delicious! They put mango chutney on it and it went really well. It was a healthy meal as they give salad as the sides options, and no fries. I think I might have preferred fries, but the salad was really nice.
It’s a good place to go for live music. I also heard from the locals they’re open year round! That was something I found surprising because it’s an outdoor restaurant, essentially, and it gets cooooollldddd!!! and wet!!!
