For my annual u-pick strawberry ritual, I chose W & A Farms. I live in New Westminster, so this farm in east Richmond was a just a bridge away. The website also said they don’t use chemical sprays on the strawberries, which was a plus. In reality, it made for a bit of a weedy picking experience, and it was challenging to get at the berries in places with all the extra foliage you had to fight with. But the strawberries were plentiful and beautiful, just falling off the spikes and into my hands. The u-pick stand is pretty basic and cash only, so go prepared when you get your agricultural on: sunscreen, hat, water, snacks, buckets, and did I mention cash? But the price for u-pick no-spray berries is very reasonable, $ 2 a pound($ 3 for piggy pickers who only pick jumbos, however, so don’t be one of those). Sugarbushes, now I have to wash, freeze and process my pounds and pounds of berries!
