Saggy rice cake, Unflavorful Fried chicken wings Everything overpriced I can’t stop making fun of the $ 9.99 saggy rice cake… I think it should be called«finding ricecake«the sauce is so diluted that it looked like a plate of soup. And did I mention it was super saggy? And then the chickenwings … Seriously? It’s so dry that I couldn’t tell apart the bones and the meat… The kimchi soup is like water and kimchi… And there is a line up for this place… Why, why, why?!

I had the chashu ramen and it was mehhh. I didn’t really like it. The noodles were like worst than instant noodles for me and there wasn’t Much flavor to the broth. But I should’ve knew not to get ramen from a Korean restaurant. My friends got japchae, bibimbap, and bulgogi and those were sooo good. The portions were pretty big too! The beef bulgogi is my favorite

Samsoonie is an excellent restaurant to find good Korean food! My family and I have been here a few times, and the food is always fresh, authentic and flavourful. Several highlights of our visit were gimbap, the seafood pancake, and seafood soontooku tofu. The gimbap, although easily found in many Korean restaurants, was really well done! The rice was perfect, chewy and soft, while the filling was the traditional egg, spinach, carrots, burdock, and pickle and garnished with a sprinkle of sesame seeds. The flavour and texture balance was really nice and didn’t need anything extra, like soy sauce. I cannot sing the praises of this seafood pancake enough. I adored this dish, and so did my family! The outside was crisp, but not burnt, while the inside was chewy and delicious! It was filled generously with squid, octopus and green onions. The sauce(brought with it; probably vinegar, sesame seeds, and soy sauce) added another dimension of flavour to the pancake. The seafood soontooku tofu was a treasure chest of shrimp, squid, clams and octopus. The mildly spicy broth went well with the rice and the tofu had a silky texture. The reasonable prices and good portions made Samsoonie a great place to check out!

This is our first time eating at Samsoonie and it is because Kyung Bok Palace shut down at the Lansdowne Mall. We really enjoyed our meal at Samsoonie for the food quality and the value. My elderly mother and I ordered a small seafood pancake for $ 8.99 which was loaded with green onions, squid, and shrimp. What we liked about it is that it wasn’t too oily. We also shared the 2 piece cod tonkatsu for $ 10.99 which came with a large scoop of very good rice, a little side of fries that were so crunchy(exactly like Costco fries), a tiny serving of pickled white radish(sweet and sour), and a small bowl of shredded cabbage with thousand island dressing. The servers are extremely friendly and helpful but you have to ask for things like menus and tartare sauce. They are not very attentive but they were vey apologetic and friendly. The restaurant is runned by Koreans and Samsoonie is a little gem. We will definitely be returning again soon!

–Polite service and generous portions — 2 side dishes each table(not 3) — ~$ 5 minimum charge per person –has hot air circulating during miserably and cold Vancouver nights. –Korean menu doesn’t elaborate exactly what ingredients are included. –Broth is on the salty side

Service was friendly although the last dish we ordered(wonton soup) took a long time to arrive and was a tad too salty. Be aware though that seafood noodles are served cold, and our order of a mild dish somehow came out very spicy. Korean style seafood pancake was OK, & it was good we ordered the large size as the small size would not have filled us up. Side dishes could have more variety & we were not offered refills.

Just had dinner here — seems like a mom and pop-run resto. We ordered a couple tofu hot soups and japchae. I don’t know why you cannot find any solid Korean food in this city — Samsoonie is yet another example of this. Not bad, but definitely not good. The japchae was too sweet with large chunks of onion. The potato noodles stuck too much together. My pork bone soup was way too salty. And it just left my mouth feeling raw. Also, the ban chan — we got two: kimchi(watery & lacking flavour) & a seaweed(this was better) were lack-lustre to say the least. I feel ban chan is a true marker and best indicator of how the rest of your meal will be — in this case: ‘meh’ Pro: + good service + fast food to table Con: + MSGMSGMSG + mediocre food Rating 2.5÷5

Always great food AND service whenever I visit. If you frequent Korean restaurants, then you know it’s nice to get good service. Portions are large and prices reasonable. Wide range on the menu so sure to satisfy everyone in the party. I had a craving for the bossan! The side items that came with this plate was amazing. Definitely order when you visit; just be aware this is a 2 person plate but soooo good.

Surprisingly good Korean and Ramen food. Pan fried dumplings were excellent and contents succulent. Wonton ramen were just as good and the soup that came with ramen was not salty but actually tasted like soup instead of salted water like in some places — Korean seafood pancake was also very good Kimchi could be better though Only small complaint was the ability to catch the attention of the waitresses but they were always friendly and polite when you got their attention Well priced and would go there again in the near future

Pork bone soup came with lots of meat on the bones, and a rich flavorable broth. Bowls are larger the most Kor restaurants, very filling. Recommend.

We stopped by this restaurant on our way to the mall. The parking was challenging because it was Richmond. There never seems to be enough parking spots! The parking lot was full but we lucked out as another customer was leaving. Once we parked, we walked into a restaurant that was somewhat busy. There was ample seating that we were able to get a table right away. Our server quickly dropped of cups of water. We ordered a shoyu ramen, a corn butter ramen and a beef soft tofu hot pot amongst the three of us. Our server dropped off some kimchi and potato side dishes after we placed our order. The side dishes were decent. The potato was the better of the two. The sweet corn syrup glaze on the soft potato hit the right spot. The kimchi tasted house made. However, I feel that the kimchi was not seasoned enough for a more well developed flavour. It tasted one dimensional. My corn butter ramen was served in a large bowl. There was a good amount of noodles and toppings. The chasu was soft and chewy. The noodles were al dente. The egg was fully cooked unlike the soft boiled egg photo on the menu. I was a tad disappointed that my egg did not look like the photo. There was an ample amount of corn. The broth was alright. It was not as flavourful compared to the popular Japanese ramen I have tried. Basically, it lacked the wow factor when compared to Japanese ramen. The price was great at $ 7.99. This is second restaurant where I have eaten Korean style ramen. A solid 3 stars for the ramen I ate. Service was decent. Food arrived at a reasonable time. Our sever was nice enough to refill our potato side dish. Overall experience was 3.5 stars.

Great authentic Korean cuisine. Try the pork neck noodle soup — it’s not what you think…

Came back for a 2nd visit, but this time with the hubs. We ordered chicken wings and a beef rice ball to start. Mains were the spicy beef ramen and kimchi bacon fried rice. Chicken wings were kind of disappointing — there wasn’t a description for them on the menu, so we thought they were special wings done korean style, but they’re actually just regular friend chicken wings with no seasoning and kind of dried up/puny, so it was not worth the $ 5 in my opinion(for 5). Beef rice ball was good. I would order again but this might be a bit biased because I love everything with nori/seaweed! Good for $ 3.50. Spicy beef ramen — came in a huge bowl, but I wasn’t a fan of the broth. Not sure what it was, it was very visually appealing, but it didn’t give that kick or hit that note spice-wise and it wasn’t hot temperature-wise for me for some reason. Oh yes, they had a scrambled egg in the soup that I really did not like. I would not order again. Kimchi Bacon fried rice — this was fine. Lots of flavour, some bacon bits put in. A fried egg over top. I think after this visit, I am not going to eat eggs for a while, it’s in EVERYTHING and I’m not a fan of that. Overall, very nice presentation of food, friendly service — more attentive than my last visit — and I would come back if I had a hankering for bibimbap only. Everyone else in the restaurant seemed to really enjoy their food though, I might try some other things on the menu next time.

Dropped by on a rainy evening looking for something warm and comforting, and their stone bowl bibimbap was a perfect fit. Food came out very quickly, friendly customer service. This is my fav Korean place I’ve tried in Richmond so far. Will definitely be back!

This would have been a solid three star place. A new owner, specializing in noodle. The portion is generous, taste is good, good presentation, and good price — but alas TOOMUCHMSG. I always thirst for gallons of water after eating this place and I have been here three times. I also eat instant noodle too so relatively speaking they are adding way more MSG. This is what killed me. I ordered fried dumplings and the waitress dropped one on the table(those slipperly hot oily dumplings!). The waitress picked and gathered them on her cleaning tray, apologized and took back. I said it is ok I will eat then but when she added to her cleaning tray too quickly, I didn’t want them afterward. Well, I heard in Korean, the owner says to people in the kitchen«do what is easy». Right after the same dumpling came out — not hot hot like a brand new ones they brought out initially but luke warm to touch. And I recognized one of them dropped on the tabel initially — sigh… I never went back there again and am not planning too. When I notice thing like this it is over for me — no one wants to get sick due to poor hygiene.

Finally visited, while in the area. Based on the previous good reviews, I was expecting better. Pros: Appearance and quantity of food. I got the dolsot bibimbap and I was suitably impressed when it arrived. If you like food porn, this does not disappoint. I also have to point out that the dishes they use were hand crafted and glazed. Whoever selected and designed the ceramicware did an outstanding job. I also love the wood tables and benches. Very unique for Richmond and adds well to the atmosphere and ambience. Cons: Taste of the food. It didn’t taste bad, but it didn’t taste«special». Haroo was better, but Haroo has ridiculous wait times. I really like korean food, and I’m always looking for the next best thing to jumping on a flight to Incheon and eating at the food markets there. Samsoonie felt disappointing. For example, the kimchee was made in house, but I think it was not fermented long enough for my taste. The red marinade hadn’t fully penetrated into the cabbage. There wasn’t enough umami flavor in the kimchee. Maybe they should add more garlic and anchovies to the kimchee. Not sure. The potatoe banchai looked beautiful. The corn syrup glaze made it look enticing. Biting into a few though, I got a piece that was undercooked and still crunchy. Most of the other pieces were cooked through. I’m not sure if the potatoes were soaked in cold water before being boiled. The texture wasn’t perfect. As for the bibimbap, they definitely don’t put MSG in their food, so unfortunately for me, with my MSG-addled tastebuds, it seemed a little bit on the underseasoned side. I probably should have asked for some salt or soy sauce. The condiments looked bright and beautiful but they all tasted kind of similar, so the joy of eating bibimbap where you get different flavors and textures with each bite was kind of lost. I think they should have added some lightly pickled veggies, dried fernbrake, and maybe some sliced ham, to put in more flavors and textures. At the end of the day, I felt like although the restaurant has been opened for a while, it is still going through the early learning/teething stages. Usually, at these restaurants, they have a signature dish that everyone goes for. I think their menu is a bit too broad and they could do better to focus on just a few dishes and make them outstanding. The restaurant was half empty during the dinner service, which doesn’t bode well being opposite Banzai Sushi and Tsim Chai Noodles.

Décor is simple; wooden furnishings, walls could maybe use a little more art… but is still comfortable. Came during downtime ~4pm before dinner so it was quiet and service was sparse which is understandable. They’re still nice and welcoming. Menu is extensive with many options. Portions were big with really reasonable prices(lesser than most places). Banchan was only kimchi and potatoes though… not sure if they offer anything more at dinner. Dolsot bibimbap had plenty of ingredients, though the purple cabbage was something new. Gochujang spicy sauce was not really to my liking; quite alcohol-y and runny, I prefer more sweet/savory and thick(I don’t know how to explain, if you’ve had enough bibimbap sauce maybe you know what I’m saying). I liked the beef rice ball: essentially a triangular onigiri but is Korean rice and seasoning, sprinkled with their roasted seaweed. Would be nice if they refilled my tea. But would come back to try other dishes. Debit & cash only.

Recently changed from Man Ri Sung! The people there seem quite nice, but it feels like they’ll still need some time to get used to operating he restaurant. We ordered Toppokki for appetizer, Cold Ramen for myself and my sister ordered a Cold Buckwheat Noodle(in tsuyu, similar to tempura dipping sauce but less diluted). Food arrived in a timely manner with out Topokki appetizer coming first. It wasn’t too spicy and came with a mix of garaetteok and ddeokguk, with glass noodles and fish cake, as well as an hard-boiled egg. My Cold Ramen arrived 10 – 15 minutes later. The noodle texture was really nice(I like my noodles chewy). The soup base is slightly tangy, kind of like the taste of eating Japanese pickled something. My sister’s Cold Buckwheat noodle came about 5 minutes after mine. She let me has a bit then subsequently monopolized it! It’s something I’d definitely order and recommend(mine might be a little adventurous for some). The bill came to $ 23.00, which is quite cheap considering we got an appetizer! All their prices listed include tax already. They say they’re temporarily Cash Only, but hopefully that changes within the next two weeks(about the time needed to set-up credit card machines). I would definitely like to come back and try something else on their menu! I’ve been craving Bibimbap like crazy, but it’s wayyyyy too hot right now!
