It was a lot of fun. Went with my family on the weekend and it was a good time. We learned lots and was able to learn the basics and play 6 rounds in the 3 hour slot. The facility was nice — ice was kept up. The shoe grips were very unorganized and it took quite a bit of time to find the right size and a few of us had ones that didn’t fit well. The instructor was the only downfall. She was informative, but came across rude and aggressive — sometimes a bit condescending.

Gee at ice. Great management. Great bar and restaurant. Al around a fun venue for curlers and observers alike!

We booked a sheet of ice for the Valentine’s day. I emailed in advance and the staff was very responsive. Nicest people! The 2-hour session included instructions and all the equipment. The instruction was to the point and very informative. The instructor was very clear that safety was first, she really wanted us to have fun without any injury. and fun we had! Remember to dress in layers! It starts slowly, but if you pick up the game, you will end up sweating. Longjongs are a must! I wish we had knee pads, my right knee is bruised, cause I managed to bang it a few time. I really don’t mind the bruise, cause now I have pictures to show that we had a family Olympic event! It is harder than you look. I will make sure to have crazy pants like the Norwegian curling team next time. I didn’t realize how entertaining curling is. Now I get those pants… Amazing experience!

Curling. It’s harder than it looks! Don’t be fooled by the pros on TV making this sport look so easy. It’s quite difficult to balance and not easy to judge how far the curling rock will slide. Plus it is super cold! Even with all these factors, everyone had such a good time. We rented 1 sheet of ice for a friendly birthday tournament and ended up having the whole place to ourselves. The brightly lit curling rink also provided some photo ops and the pictures turned out beautifully. Perhaps, we should make curling a yearly tradition…

My first time curling… and here’s my checklist: Good friends? YES Doughnuts? YES Coffee? NO(but only because it was too hard to transport to the club) Stretchy Pants? YES Warm clothes? NO(but you can’t feel the cold when you’re numb) Muscles? YES(but that stone is HEAVY) Camera? YES(to catch everyone falling on their bums!) We had a 15 minute quick curling 101 session with an expert at the club — and then we were off! After more than a few falls, we were practically on our way to being experts! Oh curling, how I underestimated you. I used to call you a sport for sissies, but now I feel the pain — oh the lunges!
