Regent Bakery

Had just finished my lunch when I decided to go grab some egg tarts for later. This little bakery is located in a plaza between Parker Place and Aberdeen Centre on the corner of Hazelbridge and Browngate.
Walking in it looks like any HK style bakery, I quickly grabbed some fresh pineapple buns and they were also selling packs of day old buns for $ 2.50. That’s when I saw the egg tart section. They had 4 types: a cleaner tasting tart made with egg whites, the traditional crushy and flaky egg tarts, and a Portuguese style egg tart with caramelized custard. I grabbed 2 of each as well as 2 pineapple buns, which cost me a grand total of $ 13.80, or about $ 1.20−1.40 each bun/​tart.
Getting home, I couldn’t wait to try the egg tarts as they were still fresh and made the box they came in warm to the touch. I gotta say, after I tried the first, I couldn’t stop myself from inhaling 3 more. They were all fairly well done. My favourites were the Portuguese style egg tart with it’s sweetness and texture, and the crushy crust egg tart that lived up to its name. Wasn’t really a fan of the flaky egg tart as they are not quite as flaky as some other bakeries, and the egg white version was similar to the crushy egg tart but just not my cup of tea.
A very enjoyable egg tart experience for an average to above-​average price, but I’ll have to try the other great bakeries in Richmond to see how they stack up against Regent.

We stopped by and picked up some egg tarts from here. I tried the buttery ones and they were good. Its cash only here. You can only get a box if you buy four pastries. The lady working there was watching us.

Just this week My bf got me their mango cakes for my birthday well it’s pricy that’s a must but cream is more than cake I mean is a rip off and the inside mango are sour and the side mango is black I mean $ 50 for a cake like this definitely not worth it. Esp the lady boss give attitude.

Now I’ve found the best egg tarts ever, even better than Kam Do, believe it or not.
The egg part is more wiggly, like jello – very soft, delicate from every bite. you even have 2 choices of the outside tart: either a more solid cookie, which i prefer, or the traditional flaky, which is a bit more work, to hold it all in, and gets a bit messy.

Regent Bakery is famous for their egg tarts.
Everyone who walked in here purchased them, except me. At the last minute I decided I wanted some of their Wintermelon Cakes. It only costed $ 2.99 for 4 and it was already packaged up.
The pastry itself isn’t too sweet and I know for most people, they would want something sweeter. I found this light enough when I don’t want full blown sugar and yet can still satisfy my cravings.

This is a pretty typical Chinese bakery in the heart of Richmond. The majority of the buns looked a bit smaller than at many of the other bakeries in the area.
But I had been given a recommendation to try the egg tarts here. So I dutifully purchased some from the warmer plate.
Let’s just say these ain’t the same quality as Golden Gate Bakery (
).
The custard was actually quite good, but the pastry was more of a butter cookie consistency rather than a flaky pastry crust. This was more of an egg tart cookie, for lack of a better way to describe it.
It was good, and I wouldn’t pass one up. But I really love a flaky crust on my egg tarts and sadly haven’t found one like the ones from Golden Gate here in the Vancouver area.
Truly shocking considering how much better most food that has anything to do with China is up here!
