Food was not cooked properly and the service too slow. Not worth it never going to eat there again.

Goodbye LA Chicken, I’ve found a new master to serve! This is hands down my favorite fried chicken place around(Pnomh Penh wings aren’t the same so they don’t count in this category). I was skeptical at first wondering how they’d beat LA Chicken but it was simple… it’s just better. I was hesitant about the seasoning on the chicken and the masala fries, but my hesitation went away with one bite! Holy sh*******t it was good. Why was this place literally empty when LA Chicken was packed? I have no effing clue. This chicken won claws down! The chicken skin was so crispy but not greasy. It was perfectly seasoned, juicy, not oily and just had a nice overall flavor to it. The fries with masala seasoning was delicious. Those fries were better than any fries I’ve had in recent memory. They were crisp, cooked perfectly and still had potato inside(as opposed to overcooked and hollow inside) and seasoned perfectly. I was honestly surprised that it was empty compared to the competitor. Why? Do people not like the seasoning on it? Do they want the thicker batter? Having done a side by side comparison(went to both places yesterday), this was easily the winner! The service was also really friendly. I think charging people after you eat was a nice touch as if it were restaurant dining, versus fast food’s pay first style. Absolutely delicious broasted chicken. Will definitely be back many, many more times.

Maybe 3.5 stars? Didn’t really live up to the hype for me. It’s not bad, but for whatever reason, I don’t think it rates 4 stars in my book. The skin is seasoned well but the meat wasn’t as flavorful. I think it needs to be brined or marinated a bit longer. The restaurant was completely empty when I visited and was still empty when I picked up my chicken after 15 minutes. I found it odd that LA Chicken was completely packed and they still served me chicken in 15 minutes, whereas Red Rooster was completely empty but it still took 15 minutes. Yes, I know they cook it to order, but I still found it odd.

Red Rooster is kind of a dilapidated looking hole-in-the-wall. You know, what many Chinese restaurants look like. They use broasting(a trademarked combination of pressure cooking and frying — trademarked ) to give you«fried» chicken. If you know only KFC, then it will be disappointing for the inferior crispiness of the skin. Still, there is really no comparison because the styles are too different. When you go, just try to turn off your expectations and try something new. Portion is atrocious. When did chicken parts shrink? Or does KFC have dibs on big fat chickens? 5-piece Combo($ 15.49) is for five pieces legs/thighs, macaroni salad(it’s the only kind, apparently), and fries. –Fries are actually really decent! And dusted with the same curry-ish spice as on the chicken. –Spicing is quite nice but a bit mild /tame for my personal taste. Not just straight salty, though, which is nice. –We at our chicken pretty much right when it came out. Missing the same crispy fun as «regular» fried chicken. More like what you can do at home without any fancy coating on your chicken. –Meat didn’t seem to be as juicy as freshly fried KFC. Skin also seemed less oily. –Macaroni salad was sort of… bland and yuck. We didn’t finish it. TIP: Don’t buy the combo. Just go for chicken only. –Choice of pop comes with your combo. I picked the weirdest one, which was a Pakistani cream soda. It’s green. It’s also normally $ 1.50, which is the priciest soda they have in the fridge. Unlike KFC, it takes about 20 minutes per order, IF there are no orders ahead of you. They have to prep the chicken with some marinade/coating first, and their broaster only handles 20 pieces at a time and it takes 15 minutes to fry. You might be the only one in the store at the time but they could be handling called-ahead pickup orders so potentially your wait could be in excess of 30 minutes. TIP: If you want white meat, there is an option to replace dark with white for 15 cents per. TIP: Pay when you order, like any other fast-food place. They invite you to pay after you eat, like a sit-down restaurant. But it’s all too easy to accidentally do a dine-and-dash because you think you are in just another fast food place.

Absolutely amazing chicken. Juicy, tender and the skin is super crispy. The fries are great too. A hidden gem in the area.

Came here for the first time and tried the Chicken broast combo and absolutely loved it. I haven’t had good broast in a long time and this place really won me over. The chicken was well cooked, not oily and was juicy. I highly recommend this place. The staff were very hospitable and welcoming and even offered us dates for Iftar.

Yum yum yum! I’ve never had broasted chicken with the East Indian spices. So delicious! This isn’t a place you’d come and enjoy eating in, it’s definitely more for takeout. My job ordered from her almost every day and I usually jump on 2 – 3 times a month. Everyone at the job DROOLS over the chicken and fry combos so get get yourself some!!! The big complaint I have is they no longer give you containers of hot sauce to go What is fried chicken without hot sauce? That is a must, which has caused my coworkers and I to not really want to order from here anymore. When I asked why they don’t provide hot sauce the worker replied ‘too expensive to order and purchase the to go cups.’

I dropped in here for a bite to mix it up(usually hit up Lotus the phở place or LA Chicken nearby). Like LA Chicken, there’s a counter where you pay and pickup, and maybe a few seats, but most people take out. Unlike LA Chicken though, you usually get served right away because the door traffic here is definitely lower. The broasted chicken was surprisingly good and unique — it’s not something you find easily anywhere else. This strip mall/plaza is great for chicken — instead of LA Chicken, you can try this place to mix it up once in awhile.

My dad pointed out this place after the Ongpin restaurant told us we couldn’t get a table for 20 minutes since it was so packed. Anyway we didnt know that they cooked the broasted chicken fresh and that the wait was 20 minutes more or less. When we got our food we were more than excited to try this fresh broasted chicken my dad missed so much from his Saudi days when he worked there. Chicken was soooo crispy and the potato salad was delicous. Definately dip your chicken and/or fries in their garlic mayo sauce. TIP: Order your food ahead of time so youre not stuck there waiting considering the fact that theres no stores to look around in unless youre willing to go to the shoppers drug mart behind that area.

Definitely wasn’t expecting«curry» chicken pizza when hearing Butter Chicken, but I’m from the OC. The ranch size was minuscule, and there are no bread sticks of anytime, but the pizza was surprisingly good, something different. Just more if a chicken place than a pizza place, but that’s obviously reflected in the name.

Red Rooster is located in a plaza with ample parking space. It’s situated diagonally across from L.A. Chicken(whom I’m not a fan of). Right off the bat, this is not your usual fried chicken spot, as they serve a type of chicken called Broast Chicken, originating from Pakistan and it is halal, from what the owner told me. It is cooked in a pressurized deep fryer, as oppose to their conventional sibling, which cuts the cooking time in half, so each order is freshly prepared. I ordered the 2 piece(leg and thigh), fries(seasoned masala fries), and a can of pop for $ 6.50. PROS: — Well-seasoned and moist chicken. The seasoning is very unique, reminds me of middle-eastern seasoning(but of course it’s originating from Pakistan) — Very crispy and tasty seasoned fries(definitely one of the best fries I’ve had) — It is a VERYLIGHT batter(even lighter than Church’s Chicken). It’s similar to Chinese fried chicken at Chinese seafood restaurants, but much crispier, and more seasoned. — Non-oily — Lots of parking — Opens late to 11PM — Halal(for my Muslim brothers and sisters out there) — Reasonably priced CONS: — They use frozen chicken(hence one start deduction) — Can use more salt(there was hardly any salt on the chicken) — Can use more fries(there were about 10 – 12 pieces) NOTE: — It takes about 15 – 20 minutes for your order to be ready as each order is freshly prepared, so if you’re crunch on time. Do not eat here. It is definitely a very humble shop, borderline a hole in the wall type of restaurant. Nothing to write home about. I’d stay away for first dates, but will recommend as a third or fourth date type of spot. I’d definitely go again, and from what the owner told me, they are planning to expand to Vancouver, but are having problems finding good locations.

Amazing chicken — tender,(on most days extremely) juicy, *and* crispy. Their masala(also available on fries) spice mix is sublime; just enough to bring out the best in the Halal chicken and, I suspect, tempered a little to best please NW Pacific tastes. There’s enough spice to let you know that it’s there, but it never gets in the way. Yeah, it’ll take 15 – 20 minutes. Call ahead. It’s worth fresh chicken — but even as takeout after a 40 minute commute, it’s still super. Wish they’d come up with a condensation vent in their takeout containers, though. The Halal chicken(and all of the pizza ingredients!) is really high quality. As a Cantonese, I can appreciate the difference between battery chickens and free-ish– and fully-free– range chickens and Sameer(the owner) has been able to source some really good chickens. Halal with regard to food is about best practices. Most people think of Halal as only how the food animal is slaughtered and processed. Many don’t consider the welfare of the food animal during it’s growth. I suspect that truly Halal operations pay attention to the wellbeing of the food animals and that’s why truly Halal meat tastes better than N. American cheap supermarket stuff does. They have an outside contract for samosas(big vegetarian ones, smaller beef or chicken) and they are freally awesome. Good with either their ranch or springroll sauce. I need to do a head-to-head vege-samosa challenge between here and Wahh Tee.

The Work Team came here for lunch one Friday and we similarly ordered a 2-Piece Chicken + Fries Combo; I ordered a Vegetable Samosa to accessorize. Gotta say while the samosa looks good and baked, the potato inside was nothing compared to the chicken we feasted on. I think the veggie samosa would be better for a catered meal where guests may want more than chicken(if that’s even a use case). The chicken takes a long time to come out(about 15 minutes), but it’s really good chicken. The staff slice into the drumsticks and thighs so that their breading and seasoning can sink further into the chicken and I could taste the seasoning deep inside the thighs. And for those who don’t know, Halal meat tastes just like regular meat. It’s just prepared in a different way to suit Halal diets. The wait isn’t too bad if you call ahead, and this way when the chicken comes out it’s piping hot and fresh. The fries are also fried in a similar oil so they also taste like chicken, making a great lunch. Nonetheless, the chicken was the best thing to get here, and while you only get 2 pieces as opposed to 3 pieces at Church’s, the fries make the difference and most people will come out satisfied with the quantity.

Well, reviews were right; this place is great. The appearance isn’t too great, but don’t let that deceive you! I highly recommend the chicken burger.

The chicken is great. We went when it first opened and it has improved drastically since. Really enjoy the chicken and it is very well priced. People who criticize the price need to remember halal chicken by default is organic and usually free-range. If had any suggestions they would be that like a true broast experience you need to make better sauces. Specifically a garlic sauce would be amazing. Also, the chicken burger needs some work. It has potential but the bun needs to be better and the sauce needs to be ample. Will keep coming back, but as many have mentioned it is one of the ugliest hole in the wall decors in Richmond.

Great broast chicken. If you hate oily fried chicken, this is the place for you. Do note that it takes 25 – 30 minutes for the chicken to be ready after you order. Would definitely recommend if you love fried chicken. The King George park across the street is a nice place to enjoy. Prefer take out.

Hidden in a small strip mall, this place serves some really good ‘broasted’ chicken. Piping hot, the skin was perfectly crispy and well seasoned, but not overly salty. The meat was juicy without it being oily either. I was really impressed, and wanted more pieces! Sadly, I only got 2 pieces(didn’t want to invest too much), but it turned out to be a good surprise. The size of the pieces were also quite large. The space is simple and small, and it’s probably better to do take out than eat in. I can’t wait to come back for more chicken! 15⁄30; 30 Days of Unilocal

What a pleasant and unexpected surprise! maybe that’s what gets ppl off, easier to exceed expectations i guess lol. It’s a small joint in a big plaza, esp. in the same location where there’s been 3 changes in the past year or so. so pls understand my hesitation but when it comes to milkshakes & fried chicken, i’m weak. I asked the guy who did ‘broast’ really mean, think he said it had something to do w/how it’s cooked, and less greasy, which was music to my ears. All i can say is that its more of a seasoning, almost like a peppery, well spiced… almost like a sugary-crisp along the edges, and the chicken’s good… a bit bigger than I would’ve liked, but regardless, great value, 2 pcs for $ 3.49. And no oily mess, as u can see from the pic. i’ll be back!
