I am thrilled to have discovered the past time of «watching planes land» :) Depending on the aircraft, the sound and feeling of it wooshing over head can be very invigorating. Oh, and sometimes you’ll even see wingtip vortices! Pretty cool phenomena. If you are looking for a place to watch planes — Larry Berg is a good(and official) option. Of course, weather and wind conditions will mean planes do not always use this runway… meaning you’ll need to head elsewhere. A few other locations that I’ve recently discovered: – The small parking lots at the end of River Road(along the dykes, as far as you can go west) – The Flying Beaver(good for watching the float planes) – And my favourtie — Templeton Street(right by Grauer Road — on the east side of the airport)

If you’re in the YVR area and want to watch planes literally land on top of you, this is the place to be. Parking is available in a small lot on the side. You can also park directly on Airport Road. Back then you could park anywhere on the field, but now everything is fenced off There are now plaques and a raised mound where you can learn more about planes as well. Great for aircraft enthusiasts. I’m surprised more people don’t know about this place. If you’re driving to Richmond via Sea Island, stop by and take a look.
