All Hainese chicken lovers should come here! This place is a serious threat to Mamalee’s! I cannot explain how delicious the Hainese chicken is here. The chicken is literally always on point. Coco Hut is definitely bang for you buck. You can get a whole chicken, 5 bowls of broth soup and with 5 bowls of yellow chicken flavoured rice for $ 23. I also like the fact how the chicken is practically deboned and makes eating the chicken effortlessly. The sauces included with the rice goes well with the chicken. Typically when I am here, I get an order of the Hainese chicken, roti and the meegoreng. The roti is very good, has a super nice buttery taste to it and comes with a curry dip. The mee goreng is tasty as well. There are so many items on the their menu, it’s hard not to over order! The restaurant is family owned and is situated in a strip mall with plenty of parking. The servers are very nice and food is prompt. Def a must try!

3.5 stars. The char kuey teow was a huge disappointment with a lack of flavour, toppings and overall pretty bland. Other than that, the chicken rice is a good portion, flavour and soft with rice that is tasty but not overly oily. The laksa was delicious with plenty of vermicelli submerged in a coconut laksa broth. Loved that they put chicken breast in here! The lunch combos are a great deal with some satays as well!

Two friends and I went for dinner at this Singaporean restaurant. The owner and a waitress can speak Cantonese, Mandarin and English. They were the only two who served the customers when I was there. They were very busy running around and taking care of the customers’ needs. The food was above average. The hainanese chicken was the best among all the dishes. The chicken was very soft and tasty with some green onions and oil as a sauce. The flavour rice tasted excellent as well. We ordered Mee Goreng(pan fried noodles with some tofu and pork). It was alright. Not the best. We also ordered a dish of wok fried green beans with Belachen. It was okay. Asians would like the flavour of Belachen but probably not Caucasians. Caucasians might not be able to stand for the«smelly» flavour of Belachen. We ordered pearl barley tea for drinks instead of coffee, tea or pops. It was healthier. The restaurant was busy, so if you didn’t want to wait, you should call and make reservation ahead of time. The prices and service were fine. This restaurant is a small authentic Singaporean restaurant, so don’t expect the service is going to be like a 4 or 5 star western restaurant. But if you like Asian or Singaporean/Malaysian food, this restaurant is a good choice for you!

I did not intend on this day to come here, let alone come here at all except the place I wanted to go to was closed and I remembered while donating blood the girl who was donating her time told me if you want good Hainanese chicken, come to this place. Keeping that in mind and being denied going to another place, due to the fact they were closed on Monday, I came here with my mom. Around 4PM on a holiday Monday, it’s dead, like maybe one table, and that table had only one person sitting by themselves eating, should I enter, well it’s a time where many Asian restaurants during this time are closed for the break and since I never came here might as well give it a shot. It’s a clean, small place, that when empty is very roomy, there is a small(think under 27′) flat screen playing some Chinese program while the person working there is really staying in the back and playing with her iPhone waiting for you to order. We received our menu and decided to call along another friend to come by, and at that moment our first order was the Laksa. My mom had to walk up from where we were sitting to find the person behind the till to put the order in… and in Cantonese she tells the chef in the back of the order. We eventually receive this huge bowl of Laksa, a nice creamy murky soup base that you can see the redness, and through this, the creamy coconut milk used to make this liquid. On top, floating with the help of a lot of vermicelli… some nice sized prawns, thinly sliced fish cake, shredded chicken, bean sprouts, a cut in half hard boiled egg, this thing had it all in presentation, but how was it? I was actually very happy with this bowl, as this was supposed to be a snack, became a full on meal, sharing with my mom, having each lovely bite, with enough of everything, from soup to noodles to protein, however you wanted to eat this, there was a lot where nothing was overpowering with great mix where is wasn’t overly ‘coconutty’ but my kind of noodles on this sunny day. Eventually the third wheel came, and we decided to get more food. We ordered the Hainanese chicken with their flavored/scented rice, and I remember a lady coming in not too long ago while I was slurping down the noodles asking about her take out and if the rice was ‘chicken’ rice… in Cantonese… meaning flavored. We ordered an order that looked like half a bird with two bowls of rice, and a bowl of their curry beef with housemade roti, we did not know what to expect but if it was like the laksa that was just devoured prior to this order, we should be ok. Now coming up to past 5 the other thing I noticed was that there was more people in the place, and I forgot to mention, this was a cash only joint, and in this plaza where this place is. there are a ton of restaurants, so no lack of choice. Our food eventually came and the first thing that wowed me was the golden, yellow color of the chicken rice, most places, it just glistens with whatever chicken fat that has been greased into the rice, this was a pleasant sight, and while it came out with the chicken it was all piping hot, steam coming from the rice, the chicken. all of it. Taking each bite of the chicken, it was moist, juicy, tender, and tasty, mixed with the rice it was a perfect deadly over-eating combo. The curry beef was another surprise, full of flavor, different from that of other nationality curries, I wasn’t too fond of the gooey texture of the roti, but to each their own, and to making that it wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t to my liking. We had to pack most of this home, as it was just too much for three people, forget midday snack, this was dinner and we were done. I did end up eating a portion of the leftovers on another night and they were as tasty as they were when eating right at the restaurant. While coming out after paying for the bill, the place was packed, so people know about this place and they come to it. just like that tip I got from donating blood, this place is good. and it’s cheap for what you get. I’ll be back, and hope that it pleasantly surprises me like the first time I am here.

Nom nom nom! I love hainanese chicken and this is my go to place for hainanese chicken whenever I am in Richmond. Half a chicken with 3 bowls of rice for $ 13.95 simply cannot be beat in value or taste. The chicken was moist and tender and it melts in your mouth! Rice is average as I find it a tad too bland, but the chicken makes up for it. Service is great and quick. Not stingy on sauce like prata man. Lots of parking. Deliciousness all around!

One of the best hainanese chicken rice in the city. There just isn’t very many good hainanese chicken rice here and it’s always pleasant to get served a good one. The chicken was gelatinous, tender, and seasoned well. The oily green onion sauce was authentic, not overpowering. All the dishes here remind me of a home cooked take on Singaporean/Malaysian cuisine. I like it. It’s hard to find good, authentic singaporean food in the city. Coco Hut isn’t perfect, but it’s welcome place in the restaurant scene in Richmond.

Monday night I was feeling a bit lazy so I called up a friend and asked him out for dinner. He asked me what I was in the mood for… I said curry. He suggested Coco Hut Singapore. Situated in a Chinese strip mall this place is tiny. I would say at most this restaurant can seat 30 people. I believe this is a family run restaurant. They only had one waiter to look after maybe 6 or 7 tables. Still the guy was really motoring and we were serviced well. Coco Hut kind of serves the same type of food as Mamalees(one of my all time faves). But Coco Hut’s menu is a bit more extensive. My friend and I shared a bunch of dishes. We has the roti, beef and chicken skewers, curry beef brisket, and Hainanese Chicken with rice. The roti was ok, but a bit dense. Certainly not as light and flakey as Mamalees. The skewers were ok too. But the beef skewer was on the tough side. Next the curry beef brisket was good. Not too spicy but sorry I like the Mui Garden beef brisket more! The Hainanese Chicken… again ok but compared to Mamalees Coco Hut’s chicken is a bit overbearing. The pieces of chicken at Mamalees are delicately sliced. The customer has the feeling that every piece of chicken on his plate was personally selected and dissected for him. The Coco Hut chicken are just big slabs cut out and placed on the plate. I may be a bit too critical of the Coco Hut. Comparing this restaurant to my other favourites is a bit like comparing one old gf with another. I should really just be happy and judge this restaurant on its own merits. Overall, Coco Hut is pretty darn good! I would come back! Period!

The worst Hannan chicken rice ever. It didn’t tasty like the traditional Hannan chicken ice. And the fired noodle tasty so bad. I won’t come back for sure.

Best Hainan chicken rice and curry beef brisket in Richmond! Friendly staff and big portions. I regularly purchase take out on weekends to feed my staff on weekends, 1 chicken, 5 bowls of rice and 1 large curry beef brisket will get everyone full, and it only costs about $ 5 per person! Cheaper than treating them McDonalds and way more healthy! Service dining in needs some work though, although for a small operation(looks like family) it’s already amazing.

We were waiting for our table for lunch today(Feb 8) near the door. Suddenly, my teenage son noticed a cockroach(smaller than a quarter) crawling on top of the partition/podium at the front door. He promptly smashed it with a rolled up copy of Plem magazine … then I told one of the waitress by pointing it out while it is motionless and upside down. She immediately picked up the half dead cockroach with her bare hand and probably threw it down the sink behind the bar/cashier and I believe she washed her hands … We left before we could get our table because there are a number of fails in this whole thing — starting with there should not be any cockroaches!

[The Chicken Hut] This place has one of the best Hainanese chicken dishes I’ve had. Their meat is fall-off-the-bone tender with meaty yet lean chunks of chicken. It can be ordered as an individual-sized serving, half chicken for 3, or an entire bird fit for 5 — or if you’re just finished a 30-hour famine. I wanted to sample a few items so I topped off my single Hainanese chicken serving with… more chicken! The curry chicken rice was good but not stellar. The curry came in a small bowl with a plate of rice. Since I made it a combo, a pair of chicken(or beef/pork) skewers were included. These were a tad dry but the accompanying peanut sauce was excellent. The cold barley drink was cold and refreshing. Coco hut occupies smaller place with seating for 20. It’s relatively new and modern. Service was mediocre despite the lack of customers — I’d use the words«no frills». Value-wise, my entire meal cost me $ 20 and I was stuffed. Final thoughts: Come for the Hainanese chicken if you don’t want to break the bank.

When I arrived, I wasn’t greeted and I had to wait around for 10 mins before the waitress even acknowledged my presence. When a table finally cleared up, the waitress apologized for the wait and ushered me to take a seat. After I sat down, a older waitress came over and barked at me for sitting at that seat because that table was reserved. I didn’t mind getting up but the way she said it was really rude, especially considering that I had already waited for so long to be seated. I told her that the other waitress seated me, she went into the kitchen and I overheard her saying to the other waitress«Why did you tell her to sit there?» While I was waiting for a seat I also witnessed the older waitress roll her eyes in annoyance when a group asked her where their rice was. Their chicken had already arrived but their rice hadn’t. She answered impatiently«It’s coming, okay?» After I had finally secured a table, no menus were brought over to me. Instead the waitress just asked what I wanted. I had already looked up reviews online so I told her I wanted a curry beef combo. When the food arrived, the younger waitress was very apologetic about the table confusion, which I appreciated. Anyways, the curry beef was pretty tasty! It’s not as creamy as some other places, it was on more on the watery side, but it was still good. The beef brisket was tender, with the perfect ratio of lean to fatty pieces. Overall, come here for the food, not the service. I’ll probably come back to try their Hainanese Chicken.

Walked into this restaurant and saw an East Indian man eating their curry chicken dish, I would say that is an endorsement in itself. We ordered the 2 person combo.$ 20.95 1– Appetizer — Chicken Satay 4 skewers, very nicely seasoned not cooked dry like other satay places. 2 — Mains Hainanese Chicken — boneless and very soft, nicely flavored, comes with the Chicken Oil Flavor Rice Singapore Laksa Vermicelli — super large portion, very tasty coconut, light curry broth. 2 — drinks — Barley Tea — a little over sweetened for my taste but quite to drink to cool off all the heated spicier food. We also ordered a side order of Roti($ 2.95) — so nice and fluffy and chewy. This is a small 10 table restaurant in an Asian mall in Richmond, very clean and lots of people were coming in for pick up. When we left, I ran into my friend’s boss and he is Singaporean and he told us this place was authentic. Prices is reasonable and portions are huge!

After returning from my south east asia travels i’ve been craving for a good plate of Singaporean Hainese chicken rice– particularly the one at Tian Tian in the Maxwell Hawkers centre. Finding hainanese chicken on a menu in Vancouver is dime a dozen, finding a place that makes it delicious is slim to none. When hainanese chicken is bad, it’s usually VERY bad. The chicken is the star of the show, so free range or organic is highly preferred, you are literally eating boiled chicken so it better be some damn good quality chicken! Coco Hut fails to serve anything that even remotely resembles the chicken back in Singapore. The quality of the chicken is low-grade and slimy. The dipping sauce they serve along with the chicken is very strange and not authentic. Skip this one!

My boyfriend’s family and I stopped by here on our way back from Vancouver. The place accepts U.S. dollars but do not take any credit cards so beware. I got the Singaporean laksa soup. The soup itself was humongous, I couldn’t finish it. However, I was a bit disappointed by the flavor itself. It looked amazing, with the soup a bright orange, but it didn’t really taste like much. The curry dish that my boyfriend’s mom got tasted good though. Right amount of heat and the flavor is consistent with what you think curry tastes like.

It was a busy Sat for me and I purposely picked an easy and quick place for lunch. I went to Coco Hut by myself and I got seated right the way. I ordered the Belachan Fried rice noodles and it was so disappointing. It has few shredded hams and bean sprouts with rice noodles and extremely salty! I didn’t mind to pay for $ 7.25 + PST + Tips for pain noodles, but at least eatable! I left 2⁄3 on the dish but the waiter didn’t ask for reason and just packed it for me. I only spent 25 mins in the restaurant and the waitress and staffs were non-stop talking about the news in the counter. Wut a causal service?

This place is solid! I still wonder why people go to chain restaurants like Tropika or Banana Leaf when there are plenty of smaller places which are equally as good and cheaper too. Coco Hut is definitely one of those places. It is a bit small inside, but on the plus side, there’s plenty of parking. Always a plus in Richmond. We ordered the hainan chicken = very good. Roti was flaky and delicious. Curries were equally as bomb. This is my new go-to place for Malaysian/Singaporean food in Richmond. I will be back.

Coco Hut provided a surprisingly good dinner at low prices in one of the massive dining villages in Richmond filled with random eateries, tea houses, and hair salons. Although the roti was thick and a tad disappointing, the beef curry along with the oily rice was quite good, rich, and hearty. The Hainanese chicken was the real deal. It was rather tasty, quite delicious, and seemed very authentic. I ate up the well-prepared, clean dishes full of authentic Singaporean style and preparation. Too bad the service was poor as two waitresses were running around trying to serve everyone in the small eatery. I found this meal rather satisfying, pretty cheap($ 20 including tip and tax for everything), and heartily filling for two. Apart from the subpar service, the food and experience was certainly top notch.

One of the more authentic Singaporean-style places out there. Move over, Tropika! Parking is available all over the strip mall, though you have have to find some spots. The inside is rather small, with maybe 10 tables. It was quite full today, but they were able to squeeze us in after a couple of minutes. One thing I noticed inside was that EVERY table ordered the House Special Hainan chicken. It looks like you need 3 people at least though, if you don’t want to wreck yourself. So you may want to bring a couple of friends. The service was efficient but friendly. The lady took care of our every need. Curry beef — oh yum. Nice bite-sized pieces of brisket without too much fat, and just the right amount of rice to clean out the bowl. Special mention. Seafood mee goreng — a bit too sticky and sweet. Just doesn’t taste as good as when I had it back in KL. Couldn’t quite put my finger on it though. I will most definitely be back. Recommended.
