Alamo Rent A Car

I rented a dodge ram 1500 pick up truck. They were 15mins late handing my car. I did a quick check of my car’s paint. Returned the car and next thing you know it has a small dent on the chrome bumper. The dent doesnt have any scratch and it only looks like just someone just sat on it. they billed me $ 1100 for a small dent. Overcharging. Beware!!! How can you check for dents on a nice shiny chrome bumper. Its hard. They are trying ripped me off

Great Experience. We arrived on a Thursday around 10:00 am and waiting only about 5 mins for assistance. Check-​in was easy, short walk from terminal and car was ready and waiting. Return of car was just as easy. Great job Alamo.

So the last time we rented a car, using Expedia or somesuch search engine, we got a car elsewhere, and it was way more expensive, and also someone stole my card info and my credit card had fraud.
This time, we lucked out with Alamo! Not only did I get wise to the way it’s billed… we needed 6 days but it’s cheaper if you rent for a week. I made sure that there were no hidden fees, so it seemed pretty honest and up-​front this time. We don’t do too much travel that involves a rental car, so I’m not the most savvy on this, but I am getting better, and had a good experience here, so much so, that next time I will probably go straight to Alamo rather than go through the whole search engine again.
Car was great, we had a snowboard and luggage, but we were able to make it work with an economy size, so it was a great experience all around.

Service is lacking. Tries to scam you if you’re not careful. I would advice not to rent from this company or check the car very very carefully before driving off. Check the car and make them document everything! First they tell me small scratches and marks are not an issue and to look for golf-​ball sized dents when checking the vehicle initially. DO NOT TAKE THEIR WORD FOR IT!!! They tried to make me pay for small marks that were already there when I picked up the vehicle. DON“T BELIEVE A WORD THEY SAY! You should Identify any slight marks, scratches and dents on the vehicle and make them document it! Otherwise, they will try to hold you responsible for it when you return the car. This is what happened to me. Also they did not tell me the overhead dvd player does not close properly and is held in place with clear tape! Very unprofessional and the agents are shady and rude.

Alamo is located in the yvr rental car building along with budget, Hertz, Avis. I reserved the car via Expedia and had no problem picking it up. The guy asked if we wanted extra insurance and I declined it as I used a cc with rental coverage. No pressure to purchase their insurance. Went to check the car and the paper has noted the existing scratches and dings. There was one not noted yet so I went back to let them know. They said as long as it is smaller than a gold ball, it is fine. Car is in good condition. No problems returning the car too. I would definitely come back here. I find the prices at the airport are more competitive compared to other places.

I must say that this experience here at Alamo in YVR was quick and painless. Showed my printed itinerary, was told to initial, initial, sign here, and off we went to our rental car.
If you have never rented a car before then ask questions. If you have… then you have that. «give me my car and let me go» metality.
Like i said– it was easy. Kal helped us out and was kind and polite. Answered all my question (What time do you open? Where can i drop keys off at? Wheres the closes gas station?- Boom,
Boom, and Boom)
Id rent from Alamo again.

High marks to Alamo at YVR. They have excellent front counter staff. Pickup and returns are a breeze. Thank you Alamo for making car rentals a pleasant process. Looking forward to doing more business with you in the future.

I decided to rent with Alamo Vancouver because I had really good experience with them in Toronto (I was given the option to pick a car I want in my rental class, and was then given discount on upgrades). Unfortunately, the good seemless experience seemed exclusive to YYZ but not YVR.
To begin with I asked if I will be given a choice as to my vehicle because I had that experience in YYZ. The check-​in lady said «let me check» and walked back with a set of keys without even answering my request. I booked and prepaid for a Chrysler 300C and was offered a small Cadillac SUV — quite different but I guess I cannot complaint given that it offered more space which I made good use of.
Was not asked to look for dents before signing the contract. Not an issue as they promptly marked where dents were when I spotted them. Experienced renters would have no problem with this but people who dont rent often should pay attention — especially with black cars.
I do not think that the car was cleaned after the previous renter. There were one or two empty card board boxes in the boot and the car did not look quite clean. Also, the tank was not even full (only 75% full) so I had to walk in and out of their office flagging these different issues — the manager was quite nice and helpful and resolved everything with no fuss.
Return was quite easy.
Overall not bad but I think that they should not put the duty to check, clean, and topping up the fuel of the vehicle on customers.

Service at rental places can be hit or miss, depending on how busy they are and how many people are working.
So I gave 5 stars for this time. This past weekend, I rented an economic car for getting around Vancouver BC.
I show up and it is busy, A service rep joined the registers and he immediately got my information and all that formal stuff.
Mohamed is the name of the guy, he was very professional and even offered me a free upgrade.
Great customer service and for me, that is the key to not just getting a good review, but a return customer.

I really don’t like to be bothered to «write» a review. I will praise a business where praise is due. Since it seems like you are going to bother me until I write something … here it is. I was OK, yes just OK. I had initially looked into renting a car in a few months back, the price was in the $ 9 range. Unfortunately I forgot to reserve it then so I had to do it a few weeks before my travel. Now the price was in the almost $ 20 range. Way to gouge your customers when demand is high. I had no line to get my car, no line when I returned the car, actually there was NO ONE around at all. I did get an email during my rental asking me to look for the last customers cell phone? All in all it was fine. But that gouging for supply and demand is kind of bad.

SLOWEST SERVICE EVER. There are 8 people in line. They are taking 15 minutes per person. There are only 2 customer service representatives. When booking via expedia, Alamo and another company were exactly the same price, the only reason why I picked Alamo was because out was listed first. AVOID ALAMO. Choose the other company. I’ve been here for half an hour.

Booked online and got a promotion deal (free upgrade). Waited quite long at the counter, but I guess it’s due to its good business, while no lines at other rental counters. Staff were very friendly and helpful. When returning the car, they offered us a ride to the departure terminal because I had a disabled and a senior in my party. Very good customer services.

I just rent a car here at Alamo Vancouver Intl airport, and without reading the comments on Unilocal first. Now I have a expensive lesson to learn. Got bunch of charges that I totally didn’t aware of. Called customer service and got hung up twice. They said they need to forward my dispute to store because there is nothing they can do. ??? I WILL NEVER RENT FROM ALAMO AGAIN. MAKE SURE YOU READ AND CHECK ALL YOUR CHARGES BEFORE YOU LEFT THEIR STORE.

Being Vancouver born and raised, and having many family members and friends there, I have travelled to Vancouver many, many times in the past 19 years when I moved away. In the past year alone, I have been there 7 times. I have rented cars from almost all of the rental businesses at one time or another, but I feel Alamo has the most helpful, most honest and most respectful staff, and has close to the best prices than all the other rental companies combined. Their car selection is great, the cars have all been new and in great condition. I’ve convinced my sister who is renting her next vehicle from Alamo! Highly recommended.

Great experience today after booking a car through Costco travel. Less than 5 mins to pick up the car and same in returning. No pressure on warranty. Great job.

Well unfortunately I don’t have much good to say about the Alamo car rental at the Vancouver airport…
1) although there were four employees behind the counter and three in the garage it took over 40minutes to get my car keys. This was mostly due to the distain Kal clearly had for his job. Not only did he complain that he hated working there but also complained that the price I had reserved online was too low and he wouldn’t make any money off of me. I understand it was a great deal, however that’s not really my fault or problem frankly. He also had the keys for the car beside him and when I asked from them Kal continued to make me wait.
2) once in the car I realized it wasn’t in great shape. The breaks were very sticky and it smelled like cigarette smoke. I didn’t want to deal with Kal again so I continued onward. On the highway I realized the car was in worse shape than I thought. When I called the YVR Alamo they refused to come pick me up and said I’d have to drive the defective vehicle back to the airport. They were completely UNHELPFUL. I decided that it would be further to drive back than to continue onto my hotel so I kept going.
In the end, although the price was good my time is worth more and I would rather spend more money and get service that doesn’t make me feel as if I’m a burden to disgruntled employees. I’m forced to rent a car more than once month for work and will NEVER hire Alamo or suggest it to my colleagues.

I reserved a car with Alamo for my visit to Vancouver and my expectations were far exceeded! First, the prices were lower than the competitors for my trip. Second, the representatives at the desk were very friendly and super helpful. Real, nice, people. Finally, the car I received was beyond my expectations of a typical rental car. It was very clean and well maintained. I highly recommend Alamo @ YVR.

Got out of the plane with a ferry to catch only to find a huge line up at Alamo with only one person on desk. Every other car rental agency had 3 or more agents and no line! I’m sympathetic for the lone agent, he definitely needed support, which is management’s fault. We ended up taking our business to another rental dealer because we couldn’t afford to wait the 1+ hour it would have taken to get our pre-​paid car! Yikes!

A relative of mine rented a car here about a month ago. I met him at the airport to assist him with luggage, etc. He booked a compact car, and realized once we got there the Ford Focus they offered us was too small. He chose to do a double-​upgrade for $ 10 more per day, and we ended up in a 2012 Altima. Not sure of the milage, but it smelled brand new, and was very clean. I would have believed them if they told me they drove it off the dealer’s lot that morning, it was THAT clean. Signing the papers was a breeze, and an employee even pulled the car to the door for us, since we had so much baggage and a sleeping baby. Returning was just as easy. In & out, no nonsense. I would highly recommend renting from Alamo, as I have had several amazing experiences with them at their Maui and LAX locations (and now YVR is on that list too!).

Miscommunication is the suck.
Here’s the story, coles notes version:
— Purchased a rental (with insurance) through a 3^rd party site.
— Arrived at the site and received a quote different from the one online (on computers circa 1900s).
— Was asked if we wanted insurance. Told them that we wanted the one we PURCHASED online. She said she didn’t know what we were talking about and signed us up for insurance.
— Then was told by the attendant that they could adjust the price once we got our online receipt and could show them what happened.

Found out we got charged for TWO insurances. One bought online through a 3^rd party company via the 3^rd party site & another Alamo charged us. In the end, paid an unnecessary extra $ 200. *bang head on wall* There was also a $ 50 airport fee, and when trying to call their customer service line, was on hold for enough time to grow a new specie of plant. Okay, that was an exaggeration, but it was enough time for me to decide that I didn’t want to wait any longer and I am a turtle when it comes to waiting — slow and steady wins the race :)
The extra $$$ we had to pay was super poopsville, but it’s more the false information down the customer service line that turned a possible Christmas morning experience into a root canal experience.
If you so happen have to rent a car from here, be sure to have all your information /​details memorized or on you and be super thorough with them. If anything sounds fishy, deal with it there or get the name of the person helping you and sort things out asap. Sounds super paranoid-​city, but unless you like throwing money at dragons for a hobby or enjoy gluing fingers to your face, then get ready to have your eyes in shifty mode.
