While exploring new lunch spots in Richmond, came across this hidden gem! The chicken skewers were delicious, amazing spices and perfectly grilled. A must try, but try to leave some extra time as your food is grilled on the spot.

Don’t have much to compare it to as I don’t usually eat afghan food. Seen them on Unilocal, and knowing that there aren’t too many healthy fresh options in Richmond I decided to give them a try. I am happy that I did, I got the roast chicken combo. The chicken was moist and flavourful, so was the rice. I had to stop myself from over eating my carb intake! The portion was generous, I also loved the spicy chickpea salad. The price point is unbeatable… I will definitely be coming back for take out. They are literally a hole in the wall with two tiny dining tables, just a tip to not come in to dine with a large party.

Food was good. The salad is like a stew, delicious with Naan bread. The lamb was just excellent. The personnel kept coming up and ask if we are OK which I enjoyed.

Their speciality is roast chicken so delicious. The rice with meat also good. Service is great too and price I would say is reasonable.

Wow! The reviews on this one is way off. The people that gave positive feedback obviously don’t know what good Indian/Middle Eastern cuisine tastes like or maybe the MSG in Richmond has completely killed off your taste buds. The naan was mediocre at best, their lamb chops were tougher than a 2 dollar steak and the basmati rice is meh. I hate to be ungracious but it’s one of those unsatisfying experiences where you wish those guys from Men In Black can erase from your memory.

I love this place! It’s really a hole in the wall(i.e. don’t come here with twelve people expecting a seat: there are literally just three tables), so scratch out any notion of ambiance, but the cheap, tasty, and generously portioned middle eastern food served here more than makes up for it. Best pallow I’ve had in greater Vancouver, that’s for sure! The ever-changing little side dishes that come with a main course are also a big part of why I keep going back. With signs ominously signaling this block’s redevelopment, enjoy this place while it’s still around.

Really good kababs! I’ve been here a few times and tried the different types of kababs, and love all of them. My friend had the vegetarian dish and said it was really good too. They also have a nice rice dish with meat in it for a bigger take-out order.

In the sea of MSG that is Richmond, Afghan Chopan is an oasis of vibrant flavors and delicious food. I got the roast chicken for 1, take out. Absolutely wonderful. Just opening the bag, and inhaling the spices and fragrances was amazing. I’ve never had this kind of food before. I can see and taste the mediterranean influences, indian spices, and even some asian aspects. The flavor combinations are unique and memorable. When I consider the tragic history of Afghanistan over the last century, and even more so over the last few decades, this food is like a song sung from the heart to a land that is torn and to memories of friends, families, and loved ones. It is a song of strength and survival, of indomitable pride. It is a song of hope, that the homeland that they cherish could be revived once again. This place should be on a Top Ten list of places to visit in Vancouver.

Solid offerings. Had never tried Afghan food prior so this was a good initial exposure! the employees are very friendly and the menu is large but not overwhelming. Chicken special is VERY student friendly on price, though kind of wish the portions were a bit bigger. The place is TINY(~10 people capacity) so you’re probably better off getting your food to go to eat at the food court at Richmond Centre across the street.

My bf and I were looking for a place to have dinner, and I came across a flyer in our hotel, that there was Afgan food near by, so we decided to go. As we walked in, I wasn’t too sure if this was the right place, just because it is a very small restaurant, I kid you not, this place only sits 4 people in their restaurant. Not too sure what I had ordered, but damn, the food was delicious! I had the kabob, and my boyfriend had ordered the chicken, OMG … the food was amazeballs!!! It did take a while for us to get our order, but it was worth it. We were in town for my birthday weekend, and I was pretty bummed that we didn’t get the chance to grab something to eat here. Hopefully next time! Enough reading this comment, and go and try it out for yourself!

I really like afghan food so when I went with friend during lunch, I was really disappointed. The food didn’t taste very fresh… as if it was just reheated and we had some dumpling appetizer dish that was recommended. We took one bite and left it. The bread was super dry… don’t think I’d call it naan. My friend’s kebab was only okay. He wasn’t impressed.

Since I moved to Richmond I dined four times here so far and all experiences have been amazingggggg!!! Since my traditional food(Uzbek) is similar to Afghan, I know how real kebab and real naan taste like and theirs is best so far! Also, the place is small and cozy and you can even see how they cook your food, which I think is a big plus. The pictures of Afghanistan on the wall and different traditional vases and carpet all make me feel like I am in tiny Afghan land :)
