Tapanyaki. Bubble Tea. Sushi. Noodles. Rice. Soup. J’s Café is definitely more Japanese than Asian Fusion as listed on Unilocal. That said, you have the option of selecting a thai style Tom Yong gong soup instead of miso. The place itself is casual and more of a bubble tea shop by the look of it but it does do tapanyaki which is ultra cool. They offer a card that allows buy 5 get 1 free. Tea offerings include matcha and the usual suspects. We arrived just after noon on a work day and was greeted by an older gentleman who looks to be in charge. He was very helpful in suggesting what would be good. We went with the recommended special combo: teriyaki chicken, spring roll, soup. I want to say the food that was served on paper plate, paper cup for soup, and cafeteria style plastic tray, bagged spring roll, raised my eyebrow. But the food was tasty. We finished every bite. The soup on first taste lacked salt and seemed weak. But as I drank the contents of my cup I was surprised by more complex flavors. At the bottom, some tofu and other fresh ingredients. Cold matcha tea was good. Not a fan of the tapioca. This place is cool. It’s a bit different. It’s better than a food court but would probably fit well in one. Good for a quick meal with no frills.
