Amazing pizza, some of the best ive had. Service was passable. Cutlery dirty, blamed on sketchy dishwasher, restaurant dusty and dirty, I attribute that to never giving it a thorough clean. Summary: Great pizza, passable service, dusty décor.

Seeing the good reviews on Unilocal I was anxious to try it out. We were driving from edmonton to meet family in red deer for lunch. It was maybe 70% full. Sitting down we got our drinks fast enough, we ordered 3 burgers and a sandwich, a hour and a half later we had enough and decided to leave. Service was terrible, she came back to our table once to offer us more drinks and once to apologize for the slow kitchen. They said they were really busy. A hour and a half wait.

Very surprising find! We were driving from Edmonton to Calgary and wanted to pick up something quick for the car so we Unilocaled and found good ratings for this and they were right! One of the best pizzas I’ve had!

Just amazing! Amazing place! Went on their wing Wednesday where it’s there 2 for 1 wings, I was a little sad they had no hot wings but our waiter suggested there in store BBQ aside wings. they were amazing with that we got the salt and pepper wings; they were good but nothing to brag over, pizza is amazing and so many to pick from! Anything with the BBQ sauce I will 100% suggest! For sure one of my tops choices on places to eat In red deer! Our service was amazing, the waiter we had was very funny and had perfect timing, I had the perfect amount of time to look at the drink menu,(that has many amazing choices, their buckets are amazing and to die for) and to look over our menu, and we didn’t feel rushed. The place itself was fun to step Into! It was fun upbeat and friendly! Everything from the writing on the booth to the look of the walls! Not to busy I couldn’t focus on anything!(Places like hooters or Montana’s lounge with the TVs) Everything from the lighting and volume of the music, and décor was just wonderful, I could talk to my friends and still hear the amazing tunes. Over all I was very happy! MUST go!

On Sunday I went down on The Oil Kings fan bus to see Edmonton play in Calgary. With the price of the fan ticket included a lunch spot at The Rock Wood Fired Pizza in Red Deer. I’ve been to Red Deer quite a few times, but I’ve never been here, or even heard of this place until a few weeks ago. We almost missed the turn into the parking lot. Actually there aren’t any signs for The Rock along 22nd Street. Just know the restaurant is on the other side of The Wok Box. The lunch that came with our ticket includes a buffet and soft drinks, so I didn’t get to see the full menu. What I can say is the food was really good. Our buffet included six or seven different kinds of pizza, lasagna, and caesar salad. The pizzas were sliced into pretty thin pieces, but that just meant you could try a slice of each kind without feeling gross. The pizzas here are cooked in a wood fire oven, and they’re thin crust, but not super thin. The crust also has some cornmeal to it, which I like. The pizzas here aren’t greasy at all, which is always nice. The best part of all was when we were about to leave the waitress told us the two other groups that were supposed to come by for the buffet never showed up, so they boxed up the rest of the pizza for us at the buffet to take with us to Calgary. How often do you go to a buffet and get to take home food? The answer is usually never. It was a pretty sweet deal as we all got to have some pizza slices on the ride back from Calgary. The group seemed to agree that The Rock had some pretty good pizza, and would definitely be worth a stop in Red Deer again.

These are the times Unilocal needs 0.5 ratings! This place was a solid 3.5 for me but my fiancé enjoyed it more so I decided a 4⁄5 would do :) We have been meaning to stop by this restaurant for a while and finally got a chance last week. We were first going to sit at the bar, but they had the windows open so it was a little cool. We ended up sitting at a booth by the windows were the patio is. It actually took a good 10 – 15 mins for someone to serve us, my fiancé had to go ask one of the girls to see if we could get service. So for me it started off on a sour note. They had a special menu(daily? weekly?) so we ordered the roasted red pepper hummus to start from it. It was very yummy and I asked the waitress if she could do half bread half lettuce(to dip!) and she happily said that was fine. It tasted surprisingly good! My fiancé really liked this dish. He ordered the medium 12″ Meaty, Beaty, Big & Bouncy– tomato sauce pizza add plenty of pepperoni, sweet sausage, peppered bacon, meatballs, ham and extra mozzarella. It came out in a big rectangular pan, reminded me of being at home. I originally thought it was going to be that big! But it is a regular 12″ pizza on the pan. I didn’t feel like pizza so I had the apple salad(on the special menu) it was good I just wish it was a tad bit bigger. Overall, everything was tasty, the place was quite busy for being in Red Deer on a weeknight. Def would return & try more from their vast menu :) note: they have lots of cool looking drinks to try and good specials for them!

An overly-decorated restaurant in a plaza. We got there for lunch. The lunch buffet looked ok, but nothing jumped out at me so I made my own pizza. It look longer than expected, especially given how slow it was. The pizza eventually got there and it was pretty good, though somewhat salty. I’d go there again.

Whenever my mom and I decide to meet for lunch, we usually hit Red Deer because it’s our halfway point. «Where should we meet, oh restaurant guru?» she texted me last weekend. To the Y-E-L-P pages of Red Deer I went. Strange, there’s a restaurant I’ve never heard of with 9 reviews and a 4 star rating. No restaurants in Red Deer have 9 reviews. What IS this place? We must go! And go we did. The Rock is a chain out of Washington. They’ve only got two locations in Alberta so far. One in the far NW of Calgary and one in… Red Deer. Go figure! While you aren’t going to get your mom and pop style pizza joint, The Rock does make for a fun experience. Pizzas are titled after rock songs like After Midnight, Crazy Train and Stairway to Heaven. I opted for a 9″ Flirtin’ With Disaster(Hot Italian sausage, andouille sausage, caramelized onions, fresh crushed garlic and red chili flakes). The crust was soft, the pizza was super cheesy and the toppings certainly weren’t lacking. My mom was tickled pink that her cheeseburger could come as a wrap. There’s a bar side and a restaurant side to The Rock. On either side you’ve got your selection of Rocktails, beers and micro brews(including a sampler of the house brews). And in the middle, I want to call it the Church of Rock. There’s a roof, a big door, gargoyles and pews. Yeah, it’s totally the Church of Rock. While I can see this doing well in the suburbs and smaller city Alberta, I’m not sure a place like The Rock could compete with some of our local pizzerias. That being said, when you need a place that most people are going to enjoy, you’ll have a pretty good shot here. I mean, they have a cheeseburger WRAP, right Mom?

All I have to say is wow! I hope we get one of these restaurants in Calgary soon. Boyfriend and I went here a couple months ago to visit a friend who’s a bartender there. I had the Chicken Quesadilla —(oven roasted chicken, peppered bacon, mozzarella cheese, peppercorn ranch dressing and fresh scallions then baked in sun-dried tomato tortilla. Served with a side of sour cream & ranch dressing.) OMG! Probably the best queso i’ve ever had. He had the Chicken Caesar Wrap —(Tender slices of flame broiled chicken wrapped in a sun dried tomato tortilla with crisp romaine lettuce, romano cheese and caesar dressing. Served with beer battered fries and cheese dip.) He loved it. We had a great time chatting with my friend and then left with happy faces Now, on our return from Edmonton, we decided to go here again, sadly my bartender friend wasn’t working. This time around we sat in a booth and had a server, she was very nice and punctual, but with the looming storm coming i’m pretty sure she was waiting for everyone on the patio to come running in. She got us some coffees and waters and we decided to order the Calamari to start —(Lightly dusted calamari, gently fried to a golden brown and served with a side bayou sauce) It was really good, but not the best i’ve ever had. the for dinner I got the Cheeseburger Wrap–(cheeseburger, sliced up with shredded lettuce, tomato, pickle, and secret sauce all wrapped up in a sun-dried tomato tortilla. Served with beer battered fries and cheese dip.) The only reason I found this appealing is because I’m not fond of a lot of bread when it comes to sandwiches. I loved it. It was perfectly cooked and hit the spot. He had the Cajun Chicken Sandwich–(marinated chicken breast, flame broiled and topped with Cajun spices and bayou sauce. Served on their signature bun with beer battered fries) He subbed for a caesar salad instead. He liked it very much and was happy with his choice. Our server was prompt and brought us our bill in a timely manner, not trying to rush us out of the restaurant or anything. We left happy and full again. This will definitely be our go to place when we come to red deer to visit family or drive though on another trip.

The Rock serves up exactly what they promise, delicious wood fired pizza. I popped in for the lunch buffet and was impressed by the quality of food. There were a lot of options for the $ 9.99 I paid to eat it. You had the option of starting with a salad and then you were offered a selection of 1 soup, 1 pasta salad, 2 warm pastas, and numerous different(and uncommon) types of pizzas. I tried all of the pizzas offered and was impressed with all of them. They were unique and very delicious, so I couldn’t stop eating them until I was full to the brim! Some of the pizzas had been out there a little too long, but the fresh ones were delicious. They also offer these neat drinks that are served in a small bucket(kind of a novelty drink, but fun none-the-less). The theme was a little over the top, but I was willing to ignore it for the food and drinks we received. The service we had was great and has convinced me to go back there as often as I can. If you want the best pizza in Red Deer, pop by the Rock.

Went here with a large group on a Monday night. Neat décor & shtick with the classic rock theme. I had a Crazy Train pizza, which was really good, and it’s hard to beat $ 2.75 for a pint of beer. The only downside was service was pretty slow for how empty the restaurant was.

When this restaurant first opened, I wasn’t sure what to think. The outside décor looked interesting and the offer of wood fired pizzas got me in the door. As far as atmosphere, well, this place is has a gimmick, but that gimmick is clever and well done. The theme is based on 60’s and 70’s rock, with its menu items named after famous rock songs, like«Bohemian Rhapsody» or «Born on the Bayou», and it’s décor a mix between a backstage at a rock concert and a southern Alabama backdrop and all the while the music is a continuous stream of 60’s and 70s rock N’ roll. It’s fun and interesting. The theme is well done and fun for all ages. The pizza is great, which I have had on every trip there. The toppings range from traditional to interesting twists and the ones I’ve had are delicious! Want something spicy, get the«Crazy Train». If you want a pizza with BBQ pulled pork, try the«Revolution». Want a garlic fix? Try the«Wild Child». You really can’t go wrong. They are all pretty tasty. Service has been good and have no complaints with either table service or buffet. Good food, good service and fun theme. You bet I’ll be back! Unilocal 30 Day Challenge: 10⁄30

Deeee-lish!!! I had heard that The Rock had very loud music & was not conducive to conversation. So, I hadn’t been all that interested in checking it out. THEN, a friend told me they had a lunch buffet for $ 10/person. Wood fired pizzas!!! I was so in.(A salad comes with the buffet, but the wait person takes your order. It’s not on the buffet.) Why on earth had I waited so long!!! I wish I had more room in my tummy! The variety of flavours brought together, the perfect crust thickness, sooo yummy! I think my favourite was the chicken, bacon with a white sauce & something yummy drizzled over top. I was too wrapped up in the conversation to inquire the specifics of this scrumptious pizza.(After a little research, it looks like it’s called«My Generation.» :D Yum!!) That said, as for noise, it was a Tuesday at about 12 – 12:30pm & it wasn’t nearly as crowded as I would have expected, which made it much easier to converse. I don’t know what it would be like on, say, a Friday night. The service was very friendly, whether they were specifically serving us or doing something else in the vicinity. Again, too wrapped up in my conversation, I don’t even remember what it really looked like. It just had a cool vibe. I absolutely can’t wait to go back. In fact, right now I’m going to see if they deliver those scrumptious wood fired pizzas!

YAY! Gluten free pizza places are a always winners in my book! Not only that, but a personal pizza to yourself for $ 10 loaded with ample amounts of meat and cheese mean you can’t go wrong. Great specials and happy hour specials. The décor is awesome. Old rock paraphernalia, the tables look like music equipment cases, the bricks are purposely destroyed, cool band stickers everywhere. Really cool place to go grab a cheap bite and beer. They have these cool buckets too for $ 10 during happy hour and like $ 13 regularly. It’s 3 shots of alcohol in a pail of ice and juice(either margarita or rum — the rum is SO much better). The pails are literally children’s pails that you can keep afterwards, complete with shovel. Really cool setup :)
