Quartier Petit Champlain

What a cute little street! It was slightly hard to fine. No signs or anything but located at the heart of Old Quebec City’s tourist area. If you’re going from the Fairmont Château Frontenac you can choose to take the «elevator» down (not sure the price) or walk a ton of stairs. It is steep so be very careful!
Inside the street are tons of little stores. The architecture is very uniqie. Each little building has its own design with a different looking store front. Items in the store aren’t too expensive. I would say they are pretty average and maybe even cheap for a tourist area. Food was also pretty regular price.
My favourite store was the Glass store. Didn’t get the name of it but they had fresh blown glass pieces and you could watch items being newly blown. A show and a store in one! Pieces weren’t expensive either.
I would definitely recommend this street to anyone visiting Quebec City. It holds a busy little old European street feeling. During the Winter holidays there are also carolers singing with christmas lights throughout the street. Very pretty!

Tourists like myself does enjoy touristy friendly area. So I cannot miss visiting Quartier Petit Champlain during my Day in Old Quebec City.
A nice stroll down the cobblestone pathways is quite an enjoyable experience. The restaurants, shops and art galleries offers a taste of Quebec without being too touristy or cheesy.
Great for photos no matter when you visit.

We loved sitting in the little park between Le Lapin Sauté and the Chansonerie with a bottle of wine and some snacks, the people watching is second to none. If you come to QC, don’t miss this little street full of café’s, galleries and shops.

A romantic stroll through the shops and restaurants of Old Quebec, especially during the holidays. Truly old world and beautiful.

Nice area in the older section of Quebec City, Canada. Very historic. Although, now it is mostly filled with various shops, art galleries, and cafes. It almost feels like we were walking in Europe because of the narrow streets and cobblestones. The main street in this neighborhood is Rue du Petit-​Champlain. There is a nice mural on the side of one of the houses which portrays some of the history of the neighborhood. Their is also a nice staircase called the Breakneck Steps or Lower Town Stairs. In French, it is called the Escalier Casse-​Cou. Very cool spot to take a pic. This is the area where you can ride the Funicular up to Upper Town Quebec City and vice versa.
If you are a tourist, then a visit to Quartier Petit Champlain is a must. It is the oldest shopping district in North America. Charming, touristy, and historic are the words that come to mind when I remember this area. I imagine that it must get very crowded during peak season here. Fortunately for us, we had the place almost to ourselves the two days we were in the area. Absolutely gorgeous!

Just as magical as I had always imagined! I have dreamt of visiting the Quartier Patit Champlain during the Christmas season for years. 2014 was the year — twinkling garland strands draped from business to business, carolers in fur coats, local businesses as far as the eye can see, nativities tucked into plazas with advent calendars projected on the side of a church = heaven, right?
Very walkable.
Stores and restaurants tend to close on the early side.
Save plenty of time to soak it all in.

Absolutely adorable. We took the stairs down from the Château to get to the Quarter, thinking it’d be a decent trek (to necessitate a funicular)…but it’s a quick walk. :) So charming, lots of cute boutiques and shops. You will definitely feel out of time and like you’re in a European town (especially with it decorated for Christmas, which most vendors were doing as of November 1^st).

Ce quartier est vraiment l’un des plus beaux de la ville de Québec. L’aspect historique y est conservé parfaitement. Quand on habite Québec, on né pense pas toujours aller dans ce coin car il y a beaucoup de touristes mais on a tort car c’est magique comme endroit. De plus il y a de très belles boutiques qui offrent des créations exclusives pour tous les budgets; quand je cherche un cadeau original je vais dans ce quartier.

Quel charme ! Et encore, je pense né pas y être allée à la plus belle période et pas non plus avec le temps le plus adéquate, le printemps se faisant attendre, en ce dimanche de Pâques voilé et frais, mais j’étais contente de découvrir ce quartier dont je n’ai entendu que du bien. Je mets 5 étoiles parce que j’imagine très bien la beauté de ce quartier durant la période de Noël, parce que là même en plein mois d’avril cet esprit s’en dégage, on a l’impression d’être hors du temps, dans le village du père Noël et ca fait du bien. Je né saurais vraiment comment expliquer ce sentiment si agréable que j’ai ressenti en découvrant cette partie de Québec, et pour sûr, j’y retournerais encore plusieurs fois et surtout à la période de Noël !

Petit Champlain is one of the greatest parts of tourist Quebec! It’s one of the oldest historic areas in Canada and North America preserved from a time many hundreds of years ago! Today however it was iced up like a skating rink!!! Loads of tourist shops and restaurants! Close your eyes and open slowly and imagine you are in New France!

This is definitely the best part of Quebec City. If you don’t mind the freezing weather, come around the winter time, it is so beautiful & romantic especially when it’s snowing. It’s also not as crowded as the summer time. When you’re here, you feel like you’re in some old city in Europe. Absolutely beautiful! We love this part of Quebec City very much!

C’est vraiment ma partie préférée de Québec, le Petit Champlain. Offrant un véritable voyage dans le temps, c’est un des lieux historiques de la ville les mieux préservées. Un bel endroit à faire découvrir à vos amis qui né sont pas du coin!
Bien que très touristique côté boutiques, il y a tout de même quelques restaurants qui valent le détour, comme le Cochon Dingue ou le Panache.
J’adore me balader dans ses rues, mais surtout à l’automne ou l’hiver, lorsque les touristes sont moins nombreux. C’est également intéressant de le faire le soir, lorsque les petites lumières sorties à l’occasion du temps des fêtes illuminent le quartier.
Un bel endroit romantique sur le bord du St-​Laurent.

Plus jeune, j’ai toujours adoré me promener dans les rues pavées de pierres du Quartier Petit Champlain. J’avais (et j’ai toujours) l’impression d’être en vacances, quelque part en Europe ou dans une vieille ville quelconque (Québec est une vieille ville, je sais). Bref, tout ça pour dire que les bâtiments qu’on y trouve, de même que les infrastructures et la vue, sont magnifiques et transpirent l’histoire.
Pour faire des emplettes, c’est évidemment un repère à touristes, alors vous devinerez que c’est assez cher et qu’on n’y trouve pas tout. Néanmoins, quelques bons restaurants, comme le Cochon Dingue et le Lapin Sauté s’y sont établis
Sinon, pour l’ambiance, les parcs et le dépaysement, une promenade dans les rues du Petit Champlain est de mise.

Sautez de votre «overboard», montez dans votre DeLorean, c’est tout un voyage dans le temps que nous offre ce quartier de Québec. Depuis 9 ans que je vis dans cette ville et chaque fois, c’est avec un sentiment d’émerveillement que j’admire les vieilles briques, les rues étroites et les dalles sur le sol. Saviez-​vous, d’ailleurs, qu’une scèné du film Catch Me If You Can, avec Leonardo Di Caprio et Tom Hanks a été tournée dans ce quartier (celle où Frank Abagnale est dans l’imprimerie en France)? Un cinéphile comme moi se devait de vous en faire part! Un petit café à l’une des terrasses de cette place s’impose!

By far, my favorite and most memorable part of my trip to Quebec City. Quartier Petit Champlain is an area of Old Quebec, namely, the oldest commercial district in North America. Today, all of its historical facades are preserved with brand new stores and restaurants on the sides of the street. Walking down the narrow street of la rue du Petit-​Champlain is a treat in itself, the feel of old European city is brought back in its full force, much to see, much to explore, and much to appreciate. The unique artisan shops scattered around the side of the street are worth every bit to explore. Discover the Fresque du Petit Champlain on the way, a part of an effort to place a series of wall arts reflective of the history of old quebec. Incredible experience.
