Wonderful experience. First, we were greeted very pleasantly by our server Amanda. First impression went a long way. The décor is simple and modern. It feels spacious too. Food, I had the Hot chicken sandwich and my partner had Po’Boy Fish with onion rings. We also had a glass of wine from Prince Edward County. Taste of the food and wine were good. I must mention the food menu offered very wide range of dishes. I was surprised to see Pad Thai and Chicken Fried Rice on the menu. I would be interested in trying the Pad Thai next time. Their burger menu looks very tempting but we just didn’t have the chance to try them. Service, it’s a small diner, so Amanda was doing it on her own. She is friendly, professional and from my observation, she looked after every table with equal professionalism and pleasantry. She is definitely a big reason for customers to come back again.

We were walking Picton on Saturday night trying to decide where to eat. It was a tough decision since Picton is full of lovely spots. We recalled Williams from a review we had read so, when we came across it, we went for it. The décor was a surprise, albeit a pleasant one with plain white walls and a polished concrete floor. The waiter was a delight. She greeted us, served us, and bid us good night all with the same very sincere smile. The service was excellent throughout. For our meal, I had the fish tacos which came freshly made and piping hot. The fish tasted fresh, the batter crispy, the sauce suitably sweet and tangy. Two tacos came with a side salad and I chose Roasted Tomato vinaigrette for a dressing which was just amazing. I really wanted a recipe for that one. My companion ordered the Diners’s renowned Pad Thai. Unfortunately, she was disappointed in that she felt it wasn’t up to the one from her favourite Thai restaurant at home. Her complaint was that it was too saucy and too spicy(hot) especially after ordering it «mild». I tried it myself and while I found it very flavourful, it was too hot for me. So I gallantly offered the missus my second fish taco so she would not go away hungry. I think it was just one of those times when we unknowingly ordered the wrong item on the menu for our tastes.

A gem in Picton! This is our second season of cottaging in Prince Edward County, so we’ve always seen Williams Family Diner, especially after our trips to the local Giant Tiger, which is just across the street. The place was always packed with people. Today, we decided on a post-Tiger visit for an early dinner around 4:30pm…hey, we had our 2 young kids with us!(All of you parents out there get it.) What a surprise when you get inside! It’s very ordinary on the outside, and when you walk in, you feel as though you are in a non-pretentious food joint in Toronto’s Roncesvalles, Junction, Beaconsfield Village, or any other nouveau/up-and-coming-hot-Hipster-like place. The décor is shabby-chic/retro/minimalist.(I’m in an adjective-y kind of mood, can you tell?) They also have great taste in music, which had a dancehall reggae and calypso-ish sort of feel. The music matched the eclectic atmosphere and I loved the pleasant surprise that was. The music, tchochkies, cuckoo clocks and mixed art really showed the personality of the Williams’s family. It was all perfect. The lovely server was super-friendly and efficient, the food was certainly NOT greasy-spoon, like we were expecting. We ordered the specials: Halibut Fish and Chips(hand-dipped battered), Potato Leek Bacon soup(oh, so creamy!), and kid’s specials, which were a main, side, drink and dessert for the great price of $ 7.99. I understand that everything is made in-house. Impressive. I’d love an invitation to the Williams home for dinner one day. :-) I like my fries salty and WFD certainly delivered on that, yum! I also had my first Arnold Palmer drink there(Yes, I’m a grown up and have never had one before). The kids really enjoyed their meals too, and did I mention that the restaurant has a kid’s area, complete with crayons, paper, blackboards, magnets and toys?(Check, check and check! Checkmarks all around!) Banana Cheesecake Springrolls were for dessert, hello! It was a tough choice, given that the other choices of the night were lemon sponge cake, rice pudding, and frozen peanut butter pie. With the springroll’s chocolate drizzle sauce on the side, it was a perfect way to end the meal. Apparently Williams Family Diner has been featured on the Food Network as a place«You Gotta Eat» at. I agree, «you gotta eat here.» We certainly will again soon.

Through a strange coincidence a few days ago my partner and I were watching the Food Network(I almost never watch television) and happened to see the Williams Family Diner featured on «You Gotta Eat Here». What was so strange was that we were going to be driving right through Picton in the following days and this delicious-looking little haunt was right on our route. The spot didn’t disappoint– the service and the food were great, as promised. Oh, and everything was very affordable. I had the general tao chicken wings, my friend had the brats and mash and my partner had the pad thai. Afterwards we shared some gingerbread spring rolls for dessert(yum!). Everything was delicious. My only qualm would maybe have been the wine– the glass of wine I had from Three Dog really didn’t do anything for anyone at the table. I did however appreciate that the restaurant features local wines. The restaurant itself is adorable; in full hipster-chique décor the everything-in-white look with a random assortment of artwork does well to turn an otherwise standard space into something more interesting. I also think it’s great that the restaurant looks out onto a Giant Tiger. The hipster irony is just oooooozing. I love it.
