One of the worst pubs I have ever been to, and I have been to a few. I dropped in for a beer and some food, planning to sit at the bar as I sometimes do when I am alone. I rarely feel threatened by being the only woman at a bar, but really there were 2 of us, as the bartender spent most of her time sitting at the bar drinking. She didn’t know what the beers on tap were, couldn’t be bothered to check. She didn’t know what the dinner special was, to find out she went outside to the blackboard, but still wasn’t sure. Meanwhile the 3 or 4 men sitting at the bar drinking(no one was eating), made comments that made me wish someone would notice that they had already had too much to drink and stop serving them. That didn’t happen. When the bartender finally moved her bottom off the bar stool, I thought she was going to take my order, but, no, she was on her way out for a smoke. When she returned I started to order, and she just sort of wandered away while I was trying to order. She came back, then wandered around some more. Finally I was able to convey that I wanted the special, whatever it was. I moved from the bar to a table, which somehow irritated her, but I couldn’t take those drunks any more. Eventually she sauntered over with a plate of something, and later I was overcharged, but I didn’t care any more, I just wanted to leave. It took a long time for my change to come back, but I waited for it. While all this was going on, a male who I am sure was the manager was walking around with a cellphone glued to his ear, oblivious to the poor service, the drunks at the bar, and everything else… Too bad — the food was decent, if skimpily portioned and overpriced, but the contempt for paying customers is a bit much to take.
