Pure Nail Bar

I don’t want to sound mean and though it wasn’t terrible, I wouldn’t go again.
My mother and I went for mani/​pedis and although my experience with Ally was great, my mother had a different esthetitian (the name escapes me) who started her treatment 7 minutes later than mine and though we were booked for the same services, her treatment was completed 10 minutes earlier than mine! I was still having my nails done as my mother sat there twiddling her thumbs! Both estheticians should coordinate the pace of treatment so that both begin and finish at the same time otherwise, one esthetitian will look badly and one client will feel jipped.
And to top it off, my mother’s clinician (though well meaning) kept complaining about how she hadn’t received a lunch break, how hungry she was and how her stomach was growling! It’s hard to relax when you’re feeling guilty about a service being provided to you by a starving person!

Horrible, horrible place. Went with my 10-​year old daughter for mom/​daughter pedis. They actually clipped the side of my toe and it bled. I worried about the cleanliness of this place and possible infection. Subjected to inane, inappropriate endless loop of «Friends» episodes talking about sex and hookers– who even watches this in 2016? Or 2006 for that matter? Or thinks this creates a relaxing ambiance for a nail bar? Certainly none of the customers or employees in the place. Sullen ‘hostess’ said it couldn’t be changed. Paid $ 70 for this. Never, never going back and hope they deservedly go out of business.

The worst experience ever.
They are not sanitary they reuse everything.
They made us wait almost one hour for our pedi when we had it booked the worst experience of our life.
The way they did a pedi was so bad and they put on the nail polish so so so terrible like it’s ridiculous.
And for the price they charged I paid $ 80 for a damn pedicure the biggest waste of money

I had a gift certificate for a basic manicure but decided to splurge and get a gel polish mani and basic pedi. I got a hot pink gel polish mani with a this silver line between the pink and the clear. I looooooved the way they turned out! I highly recommend asking for Olga when you get your gel polish done. It’s been about 4 weeks and my nails still look great. They are peeling a bit but some of my nails aren’t even peeling up at all! I’m also still getting lots of compliments :) My pedicure was great too. They recommended using Cindy Lux brand and my polish still looks great The only negative is that I’m quite short so found it hard to position myself comfortably on the couch so they could do my nails. There were pillows but it didn’t help me.

I saw they had bad reviews but I had a gift certificate to use and this was closest to home so I was desperate. It wasn’t too bad. The young girl who did my pedicure was sweet and she was informative and did a good job. Then I had another lady do my gel polish. Since there was a mix up on the appointment service where I only asked for gel polish they accidentally gave me a pedicure on top of it. They didn’t charge me for the pedicure so that was very nice of her. Also I saw everyone was happy and no signs of attitude from any worker. Ladies and little girls just enjoying their time while staff were conversing with their clients. I guess the reviews up ’ d their game on giving better service. I love my toes! !!

Mediocre and didn’t get my money’s worth. Last fall, my sister and I booked pedicures online (and received confirmation), but when we got there, they had no record of our reservation. Had to wait for one of the girls (long brown hair, middle aged) to come back from lunch. The girl with long brown hair did my pedi but didn’t put that much effort into it. I realized after I got home that she didn’t even bother taking my old nail polish off. Overall, an extremely disappointing experience. I’ll never go back to Pure and won’t recommend this place to anyone. I’m writing this review now, as after several visits to a different nail salon where the service is fantastic and the pedicures are much, much better, I felt like I had to say something.

Salon was very accommodating to fit my sister and I both in for walk in appointments. But best of all, I have never been so happy with my mani pedi; Olivia did a FANTASTIC job!

Worst Pedi EVER!
Booked an apt. but when I arrived not only was everyone busy… but I was barely acknowledged.
Clearly states that their Pedi is ½ hour… which I found quick?
After waiting over 10+ mins I had to say something as I had an apt to get to afterwards!
The girl rushed through… barely cleaned my feet… painted them quickly. I was out the door in 23 mins. I had thought she may? charge me less as they were running late? but no!
35+ tax for the worst Pedi ever! Not recommended!!!
Plus…I found the place «unclean». Dust bunnies under the couch… towels looked like they had been through the war! I had thought this was a high-​end place? NOT

Quick Update: The manager of all the Pure Nail Bars in the Lower Mainland contacted me to apologize for the horrible experience I had, and felt that my feelings were completely justified. They offered me a full refund or to come back in to any location for a mani/​pedi on the house. I opted to give them one more shot, and said I will come in for the service again at a different location.
Nice for them to acknowledge this mistake, and make changes to make it better!

Went to purenail with my sister today. I’m not really a fan of their service but went anyways! Our experience solidified the reason why I will never go there again! The esthetican who did our nails didn’t speak English at all which is fine but at least know some basic words! The girl doing my mani didn’t smile nor say a word to me the whole time and when I thanked her she just said uh huh! And the mani was the best part of jt ! My mani was horrid the girl didn’t know how to clean cuticles and kept cutting my nail which hurt and then when she put he shellac on she didn’t paint the whole nail there was smudges etc looked like shit! My sister who is expecting a baby had similar experience they continued to use the cheese grater on her feet when she said that her feet were sensitive and they didn’t apply the nail polish on the nail properly! She sat there for an hour re painting her own nails no one checked on her ! Overall bad place! My dog could paint my nails better my advice save ur money and go to a better place! Bb nail in delta is great and they actually do a good job and is less expensive also bling in Tinseltown is very good

Do not go! The girl at the front desk was not a happy person after I showed her I had a gift card. I did not feel welcome. The person doing my nails rushed through my manicure. There was polish on the skin around my nails. The polish peeled off the very next day and the skin around my nails was red, dry and peeling as well. The woman doing my nails just left at the end to rush over to the next client. Really lousy experience. Make sure to look at the filtered reviews as well. This will give you a much better idea of how the place really is.

The reason I’m writing this review is to comment on the customer loyalty card they use at Pure Nail Bar in Port Moody. In short: NOT GOOD.
Here are the details of my experience: After you pay full price (no stamp if you’re in for a special or package) for 7 manis or 7 pedis (each is a separate area of the card), you get a free one. I decided to redeem a free mani. I got shellac added on. If you come into the salon and get shellac with no other service, it’s $ 30. If you’ve received a mani, it’s $ 20. They charged me $ 30 for the shellac!!! Way to treat a loyal customer! They said I didn’t pay anything for the manicure, so the shellac had to be charged as if that was the only service I received. Hmmm … here I thought THEY «paid» for the manicure! Basically, it was $ 175 for 8 manicures, averaging $ 21.88 per manicure. I can go to downtown Vancouver and get a better manicure for $ 15 – 20 without having to worry about any customer loyalty cards and poor customer promotions that serve to repel customers instead of attracting them. NOT impressed.
On the plus side, the staff is friendly. The atmosphere is relaxed, unless the owner shows up. She radiates negativity. You should be prepared to spend longer than usual for your service as an appointment time doesn’t necessarily mean they’re ready for you. They do a decent job here-it’s not up to the level of my fav downtown Vancouver full service salons-​but I was happy to get my nails done in such a convenient location. If you mention things to the technician like, «I really don’t want any polish on the skin» or check the length/​shape of your nails at the filing stage and give them feedback, they are responsive. BUT, after the customer loyalty card experience mentioned above …

Oh Pure, you know how to reel me in with coupons! I got a $ 5 off any service coupon with their most recent email blast (good M-​Th only) and just had to buy in to it. That and sunnier times call for cute, pedicured toes!
They were unsurprisingly busy today, a Monday of all days, but a gorgeous sunny one at that. You know how the sun brings out every woman in the lower Mainland to pedicure city. The nice phone lady was able to accommodate me half an hour before my actual appointment, despite being pretty booked for the day. I’ve been in here before when they first opened and I must say, the service has gotten tremendously better. New staff as well it seems. Anyhoo, I was treated to a glorious pedicure with this super attentive Asian lady (whose name I failed to obtain). She really went the extra mile, even offering to let me play with the colours on my hands (as in paint my own hands free of charge using their colours) and making sure my hands were lotioned up after I had ruined them playing with colours. I can’t help it. It’s like real life Crayolas with The Proposal playing in the background.
If you need some serious callous work done, just let them know.
Easy parking in Suter Brook as always and a perfect, not-​so-​bustling spot to relax with Starbucks in hand.

Not a huge fan of Pure Nail Bar in Port Moody. They’re services are definitely lacking. I agree with below poster about it’s decency for a quick cleanup, but it’s not even worth the money to me. I’ve gone in there on occasion for a quick nail trim, each time having to make an appnt for an hour or 2 later to come back. Then when I show up for my «appnt» they look at me like I’ve just completely screwed up their day. They stand around and mumble their «uhhs» and «okays» until finally figuring out what to do. Not very professional. They do have a stamp card for pedicures buy 10 get 1 free sort of thing. But I’ve only seen it from a friend, no one has ever offered it to me. Also during pedicures your feet are soaked in a metal mixing bowl, no spa chairs. Not exactly the kind of experience I look for. It has a decent atmosphere, and is nice if you want to hold a pedi party with gfs. But that’s about it.

Regarding the Port Moody location (which the previous review is not for), I will say that it is not the best-​ever mani/​pedi you will have. The do a decent job of the basics for a nice, low price. I have quite bad calluses on my feet due to walking in sandals to and from work and at a high-​end spa they will undoubtedly spend much longer working on smoothing those down, but for my purposes (a superficial tidy up and a good polish application for a wedding) they did an acceptable job.
My nail techs were both very nice — I had one for my feet and another for my hands to speed the process up a bit — and they politely asked if I minded their chatting together in their own native language. I had no problem with this since I don’t go for a mani/​pedi to chat up a relative stranger and I spent my time relaxing and reading a magazine. I was heavily complimented on my colour selections (I brought my own polish to facilitate touch-​ups) and was reminded by both to not forget my complimentary flipflops when I departed.
In the end, it was a moderately priced, decent mani/​pedi and it served it’s purpose. I would definitely recommend Pure for such things, but if you are looking for high quality then you are probably in the market for a full-​service spa.

One word: AVOID! Especially if you’re a small group.
For a friend’s 40^th birthday celebration recently, a group of about 9 of us had booked manicure/​pedicures at the Pure Nail Bar in Port Moody — first time I’ve ever been there and same for a few other guests too. I ‘ve been to a nail salon before but never a Pure Nail Bar and, after trying the Port Moody location, would never go again.
I have to say, the service was cold, rude and unwelcoming — so bad that I felt compelled to write to them afterwards — which I’ll summarize below:
We were not welcomed when we arrived (as a group of 9), they made no effort to interact with our group — not even with the Birthday girl — and the older asian lady, who I assume was the manager, looked like she was sucking lemons the whole time and the general atmosphere was as if they were just biding their time till we left.
I didn’t make the reservation and the guest of honour was so happy to have her girlfriends together for some pampering that I didn’t feel it fair to make my complaint at the time — but from the moment we arrived I felt the service was cold and it just went downhill from there. I was extremely choked that they simply rolled in a large tip into the final price, since I would NOT have tipped on such grumpy service. A $ 25 manicure became $ 35 and I felt ripped off because they made no effort.
Since I live in downtown Vancouver I won’t go to the Port Moody location again anyway. But after such grumpy and unwelcoming service — for which I was made to tip close to 25% — I would not go to any of your locations since this has left such a bad taste for me. And I certainly wouldn’t arrange for a group of us and would advise anyone else against it.
Shame, because it could have been a great opportunity for them to win over 9 more clients — who might then have gone with their friends too!
The reply I got (about 3 days later) was simply one poor excuse after another, such as: a long & busy day, at the time you arrived we were too busy with other clients to welcome your party, we were short-​staffed because «all the staff began their day at 10am and the only staff that was willing to stay behind to close up was the older Asian lady.» And then, to add insult to injury: We feel we offer reasonable rates for after-​hour parties and our prices include HST and gratuities in the price as we do not charge a venue fee. ” What, no venue fee? Give me a break — they’re a nail salon for gawd’s sake! If I eat at a restaurant I’m not expected to pay a venue fee either, nor at the movie theatre, nor at a bar, nor when I ride the bus!!!
Anyhooo, I replied as follows and have never heard another word — and would NEVER go there again:
«Thank you for taking the time to respond to my email and explain a little more about what might have contributed to the unwelcoming atmosphere during our event at the Port Moody nailbar last Saturday night.
While I appreciate your explanation and I fully understand that we all have a bad day at work sometimes, I’ve also worked in the service industry before and several very basic rules come to mind;
1) don’t take a reservation for an event you can’t properly staff
2) never make your PAYING guests feel like you don’t want them there
3) don’t roll in an expensive tip for ‘service’ that you know was less than average
4) don’t be surprised when people decide to take their custom elsewhere.
Our ‘party’ was booked about 6 weeks in advance. Had we known beforehand about the extended hours and lack of staff being an issue we would have willingly chosen a different time/​date. Now we just feel we should have chosen a different venue altogether.
It’s an unfortunate set of circumstances that could have been very easily fixed but it wasn’t. «
