Eric Clapton, B. B. King and Jimi Hendrix are all fixtures at Crossroads Guitar in Port Moody. You won’t find those master guitar players there but you will find the instruments they made famous. More than 80 guitars are on sale at the Clarke Street store and 25 of them are from owner Randy Weir’s vintage collection.
Many of the models in Weir’s collection have influenced the history of rock and roll, the blues and country music. For example, country guitar picker Chet Atkins and a young John Lennon were fond of the Gretsch Country Gentleman, a big-bodied six string with a warm but twangy sound. Weir’s got one of those from 1964.
Weir developed his love for the guitar early when his father bought him a Gibson Les Paul, a model favoured by Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page, at the age of 13.
