Established in 2012.

In 2012 we decided to create a place were people could find some of the best dishes from the incredibly diverse and vast Mexican Culinary World.

By using fresh ingredients, no preservatives, no artificial flavours, local meats and no msg in any of our recipes, we look to nourish our customers´ crave for Great Mexican Food at reasonable prices in a casual and friendly atmosphere.

Business Owner

Heriberto Galindo is a French Trained Mexican Chef, who was raised in Mazatlan and Mexico City and who also lived in Chicago, Cuba, Paris and now Vancouver.

His passion for his country and its food has led him and his family to create The Mexican Gourmet with the sole purpose of sharing with others the authentic flavours of his childhood, his mother´s recipes and the warmth and friendliness of his culture.

I’m giving this place a solid 4 stars as my husband is from Arizona and we both know very authentic Mexican food, This is the first Mexican restaurant in the lower mainland that offers a great authentic style of cooking, and packs a punch with great flavours. The food is very nicely presented, the cooking is clean and fresh, the portion size is decent, and the menu gives options for gluten free and vegetarian as well.
The sauces, every sauce is excellent. The meats, my favourite was the Beef Tinga. Hubby loved the Carne Asada.
The place is small and quaint, and you might have to wait for a table, but I suggest you wait because the food is worth it.

Never expected to find authentic Mexican food anywhere near here. I’m from Arizona, and have eaten some of the best. This place holds its own. I recommend the Carne Asada. I found that to be the best between that, beef tinga, and Mexican pulled pork. Tacos are an authentic street style taco. Great find, and I will be back.

The Burritos were not very good. Tried the chicken pollo burrito and it was filled with rice, alittle bit of Chicken, salsa, onions and cheese. The spice was lacking and it literally tasted like tomato sauce. HEAVY on the carbs. I feel heavy after eating this burrito. Save your $ 10 and go to Whole foods and get the burrito that is filled with organic ingredients, grilled veggies and guac NO EXTRA CHARGE all for $ 9

This place is small and sometimes service is slow but the food is good. I find the price to be a bit expensive for the portion size, I always expect a little more. I do enjoy the churros for dessert. Not many veggie options but you can always ask them to swap out a meat for beans.

Love this place. We get the nachos to start and 4 tacos each with flour tortilla. Nice portion size always comes out hot and fresh. Some of the best Mexican around

We have been addicted to tacos for a while so when we found out about this little restaurant close to home we had to try it.
We ended up getting the 4 taco deal. 10 bucks for 4. My wife and I shared 2 carne asada, one chicken, and one other beef one.
I’d have to say these tacos were not bad. Chicken was a tad dry but the best taco there that we tried were the Carne asada. I wish they would add a shrimp one too and a grilled fish.
If you want some cheap tacos this place is a good place to hit up. I haven’t tried their other stuff yet though but I will.
However a new taco place is opening up soon close by as well. May be a battle between the taco joints.

Good Mexican food is practically impossible to find in the Lower Mainland, so whenever we stumble across an even half-​decent place we are usually pretty excited. Imagine our delight to find a really great place, with swift and friendly service and truly delicious food.
Shoehorned into a tiny, but quaintly decorated spot next to Michael’s, you’ll find this sweet little gem, and you’ll be glad you did. (*It’s almost invisible until you’re standing RIGHT next to it, so just aim for Michael’s instead.)
Inside there are touches of rustic Mexican tile-​work and warm, inviting scents and colours that will set your mouth watering. We’ve only tried a small portion of the menu, but have found every bite delicious, fresh, and filling.
The staff we’ve met have all been welcoming and kind, and the entire restaurant is spotlessly clean, including the open kitchen where you can watch the cook prepare your meal.
Take out or dine in, this is a place that never fails to satisfy your cravings.

Saw this place last week after walking out of Michael’s and told my husband we had to check it out. So today, we did. Being from Los Angeles where Mexican food is a plenty, we miss it a lot. Vancouver seems to have everything but Mexican. We had guacamole and salsa with chips for starters (here you have to buy your chips and salsa unlike in Los Angeles and any other place in the states). God lunch I had the chicken enchiladas with rice and beans. Husband had chicken tacos and taquitos. Everything was fresh and great. We will be returning. Only reason why I gave it four stars is because even though the service was ok, she didn’t return to ask how everything was or give more water after our starters and entrée was brought. We had to ask for to go containers and had to go to the register for our bill.

I ordered take out from here a few nights ago. I ordered the chicken enchiladas with verde sauce.
I have to say I was disappointed that instead of the rice the menu said it would come with, it came with a salad that just consisted of romaine and shredded carrot. The chicken was also dry, but had decent flavor. The beans were pretty good.
I would probably try this place again for dine in, just to see if it’s any different.

I lived in Denver for 11 years where there is a little Mexican hole in the wall around every corner. This is not super authentic but this will totally do if you’re looking for a great Mexican style meal. They at least had sauces and flavors so hard to find up here. We had burritos and enchiladas with molé sauce and I’m sure you can learn to customize their stuff to make it even more tasty! I def recommend.

First time here with my coworkers as I work in the area. Great place for a quick lunch! So glad a Mexican place opened up close to us. I had the 4 tacos for $ 10 option, pulled pork, chicken and the two options of beef. I would say they were yummy! My favourite was the pulled pork. Great flavour, food was filling but not stuffed, so that’s always good for a lunch.
I would highly recommend trying this place out!
The only thing that would’ve made it 5 stars was if they had more outdoor seating in the sunshine as patio season is under way!

I was very impressed at this new location. I live in the tri-​cities and have visited their humble location in Maple Ridge before and to be honest a much better experience than last time.
It was tight in there with limited seating but the food speaks for itself. Fantastic flavour. I had the enchiladas with carne asada and pulled pork. Maybe a little too much food for afternoon but who cares it was delicious. It was a fantastic recommendation. Definitely a great spot for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Check me out for sure!
