The boyfriend and I stayed at the Waring House Inn for a week; overnight stays come with a complimentary breakfast at Amelia’s Garden. The dining hall is quite dirty. The windows and table cloths look like they haven’t been washed in months, and there are flies EVERYWHERE. Dinner: We had reservations, and we ended up arriving a little late; there were no issues. Our one dinner experience here was phenomenal. The server’s name escapes me, but she was excellent, attentive, and funny. She epitomized the perfect server. Breakfast: Our first two days of breakfast were charming, aside from the constant swarm of flies. My issue was with one of the breakfast servers – Heather. Being greeted with a frowning face first thing in the morning is not my idea of a pleasant experience. Our table was filthy – the table cloths looked like they hadn’t been washed in weeks, and there were crumbs and stains all over them. Heather’s solution was to wipe the crumbs onto the floor. She assumed I wanted coffee. I did not. I asked for tea. After 20 minutes, I got my tea. She came over and tried to pour coffee in my cup of tea several times and was upset when I refused the coffee. Even though our breakfast was complimentary, she made sure to bring us a receipt to «show us what we would have paid if we hadn’t been staying at the Inn.» We were convinced she was reminding us that she deserved an exceptional tip. Heather’s general disregard for anyone who wasn’t a co-worker made for a poor experience, and one that we will remember the next time we want to vacation in Ontario.

This is a review for the Waring House, I think they share the same premises but either way I am too lazy to check. Waring house is a very country pub type join, great interior and feel. Good menu with excellent food. The service was superb and the waitress was even sent back out by the chef to check if anything was wrong with the food after my plate went back because I did not touch the cheesy stuff.

Amelia’s garden is one of two restaurants on site at the Waring House which is an Inn, two restaurants, and a cookery school all in nicely manicured grounds. There is a small gazebo in the garden. Windows on one side of the Amelia’s garden restaurant overlook a charming garden. Reservations are always recommended, though if you come later in the evening there is often space unless it is prime tourist season. They will begin at 5:30 and usually take their last reservation for 8:30 p.m. If you arrive any later than that prepared to be reminded in a half friendly half annoyed way that you are eating late and putting the staff to inconvenience. The food is delicious almost across the board. The meat is always cooked to the right done-ness depending on your taste. The salads are well balanced affairs of greens and dressing with complex punchy chutneys or sides. The apple cider cheddar cheese soup is odd in your mind but delicious in your mouth. The fish dishes are less stellar than the meat ones. There is a nice In the summer greens and herbs from the on-site garden are used in the dishes. The menu changes frequently and can range from an a la carte of about $ 10 app and $ 20-$ 30 mains to three courses for $ 35+ depending on the occasion.
