Pricey but quality products abound. A great place to find a treasure to remember Peggy’s Cove.

This store was a breath of fresh air after visiting the Sou’wester store which is mostly filled with tacky Chinese knick knacks. The Beales’ Bailiwick has a variety of items primarily made in Canada. The slippers with sheep’s wool are to die for soft but at $ 90, you have to be willing to pay a lot for them. I am not a hat person, but this store has a really good selection of hats. My dad got a safari looking hat and I got a russian looking faux fur hat that I could only get away with wearing in a really cold climate like Canada! I got a neat sailors captain hat as a gift that was made in Greece. And if all that shopping makes you hungry, I recommend trying the british pasties! Flaky pastry crust filled with ham and cheese, potato and cheese or broccoli and cheese. In good weather, the patios are quite charming to hang out on.

Peggy’s Cove is one of my favourite places to pass the time and I’m pretty sure it’s only going to get better having discovered the small but charming espresso bar tucked away at the back of this souvenir shop. Just a quick and picturesque stroll away from the lighthouse, you can rest assured that your caffeine cravings or need to just hold anything warm in your hands on those colder days can be satisfied with lattés and cappuccinos made by Beales’ delightfully friendly staff. It’s no Starbucks but in a really good way. One of the shop staff just jumps behind the espresso counter when you’re ready to order a drink, running next door to another home when extra supplies are needed, delivering a piping hot cup of deliciousness and sending you on your way. Just perfect for getting through a cold day out on the cove, or warming up your drive back to wherever you came from! The rest of the shop does have some interesting finds although probably more touristy than what would appeal to Nova Scotia locals. If you look past the run-of-the-mill souvenir shelves though, you may stumble across some great products from local artisans ranging from crafts to fashion. Definitely worth a look.
