Usually only have take-out scones from this place and can’t comment on seating or service. However, every time I have gotten scones they have been very delicious. They offer a variety of flavours from sweet to savoury scones and often have a ‘scone of the month’. My favourite is the cheddar scone but my boyfriend loves their sweet varieties. As for the coffee, I would steer away. In a neighbourhood full of coffee shops, I’d recommend grabbing a scone from the Scone Witch and going elsewhere for coffee.

Not my favorite choice for coffee or lunch. While I’m happy they offer gluten free options, the GF savory scone is very dry. Also, it would be nice to have some variety in the GF scones(they offer one savory and one sweet). My biggest issues with this place are the seating — A mess of tiny tables and uncomfortable chairs… and the staff always seems to be out to lunch. On more than one occasion I’ve stood waiting at the counter for service while staff carried on personal conversations about nothing. Also, I’ve been sold a snack or lunch more than once only to have them come to my table a few minutes later and tell me that what I’d ordered was unavailable.

I used to love this place when it was in Centretown west. Food is still good but not outstanding. I got the oatmeal scone with warm fruit compote. The scones seem to have less butter in them now. The compote is still good. But I think it used to be served with clotted cream. Today there was just a bit of whipped cream. Does not compare. My wife got the mushroom ragu on scrambled eggs with an oatmeal scone. The ragu seems simpler and not as good. Of course the last time I went was 7 years ago. Things change.

First time here, came on a recommendation. Saturday breakfast. Prices are astronomical. Added to the expectations, let me tell you! Customers order and pay at counter, the food is brought to your table. They have a wide range of coffee tea and scones. The breakfast menu is limited. The food: mushrooms ragu on scrambled eggs. FABULOUS. Eggs not dried up and hard. Ragu best I ever had. Fruit that came with it… Looks like it was in the dumpster for a few warm days. Scone…large, and merely okay tasting. Jams were good. My biggest issue were the tables. They are about 20 – 24 inches and round. So three people cannot sit and eat and have tea comfortably. We had to line our tea up on the windowsills. The plates dangled off the edges. The plates should be smaller or a uniform shape so would fit better. The tables should be bigger. SERIOUSLY. Other issues: wait staff rather snotty and interacted with all customers as little as possible. Crappy service. I’d keep the cook and get new staff. This place probably appeals to hipsters and from what we saw. yoga moms with babies… The bill was staggering for what you got. The atmosphere is cafeteria style and I think the whole deal is far overrated.

The food is great, but the service was unbearably slow. The scones are amazing and the jam that comes with it is great. I came in with my sisters and had the sconewich, a ham with guerer cheese that had dijon mustard and spinach that was superb, although I really had to wait for it. Don’t get me wrong, the food was great, but the service was not. The entire time at the Scone Witch, the staff looked confused, and the back counter looked extremely chaotic, and the restaurant wasn’t even that busy. That made for a long wait time for my order, which came at least 15 minutes after orders were received by everyone else I was with, along with some one else’s coffee taking around the same time. It’s such a shame that the poor service ruined an otherwise very solid dining experience.

Great place for breakfast/brunch or a light snack. I love it when when I order a scone and they are crunchy on the outside and still warm on the inside. It’s like going to the bakery and getting bread fresh out of the oven. I have a great affection for place. Not only are the scones amazing. They have a variety of scones to choose from. These little bad boys are cooked in house and made fresh throught the day. Sometimes some of the staff is a little stuck up and semi rude and so as you can imagine it does remove from the experience a little. I had times where I would ask questions about the menu and I was responded in a semi short way. Personally it does not bother me as much considering that it had been consistent [not that that makes it right.] But it has happened so much that it’s just makes you say«whatever». Once I did ask to change x toping for another item and had the staff member give me some attitude for wanting to change something. I get it sometimes you can’t make substitutions but if that’s the case clearly state it or maybe say it in a polite way. It’s fine if you can’t make the change but no need for the attitude mannnnn! It might have also been that they were having a bad Day or were in a bad mood. Everyone has one of those right?! But this won’t deter me from coming back. SCONESFOLIFE!

Great place if you’re looking for a quick and tasty meal around $ 11. My favourites are the sconewitches — Smoked Turkey with Stilton or Ham and Gruyère. Also have great soups and loose leaf teas.

This place never disappoints! The scones are flaky with a crunchy exterior, often served hot. The brunches are a great way to enjoy the weekend. The sides options satisfy different cravings, whether Mediterranean vegetables with goat cheese, ham or mushroom ragu. Always a treat!

we came here for lunch, and i had an herb and chive scone w/poached salmon and cucumbers. it was soooo good. the scone was super buttery and flakey and had dill, which was the perfect accompaniment for the salmon. my husband got the jalapeño gluten free scone w/his sandwich, which was the scone of the month, and it was way too dense. i’ve realized i’m really not a fan of GF baked goods.

My husband and I went to this location for lunch last Saturday. This a fairy easy location to get to and there is parking close by. The Scone Witch is famous for their scones and rightly so. I have not yet had a scone from there that I did not like. My favourite of all them is the vanilla cream scone — go early because they run out sometimes. Both of us ordered the Mealwitch. This consists of a filling served on a scone of your choice and salad on the side. I ordered the chicken in white wine sauce and my husband ordered the mushroom ragout. Both were delicious — they have somehow figured out fillings that go really well with their scones. The side salad is a nice mix of greens with a light vinaigrette. Another nice touch is that they have a jug of water with glasses near the cash. The only awkward part of the visit was the restaurant itself. It is very busy and they have crammed tables in everywhere. We ended up with a table that is was in a bit uncomfortable. But this was not enough, by any means, to deter us. We’ll be back.

I don’t like scones and with that statement one of my friends dragged me out to the best scones in Ottawa! I had never been out to Beechwood but getting here wasn’t to difficult. I purchased 2 savoury scones. I don’t know if it was the pressure or what but I finished the scone in no time and told my friend I still didn’t like scones!!! I wasn’t there to see her face but she was probably a little heartbroken. Maybe a little like Puss N Boots from Shrek with the sad eyes. Honestly though, I didn’t hate it like I do other scones which I find way to dense and extremely dry. It’s what I imagine prison bread texture to be like. The scone I still found heavy but it wasn’t bad. It’s not my favourite baked item and I don’t think I’d go out of my way to try another one but there’s no way I have tried a better scone but I imagine there has to be better ones.

The crowd at the Beechwood Scone Witch is different than the one downtown. One factor is that this Scone Witch is in the same building as a retirement home! I think this is great so that the residents have a coffee shop that they can access without having to leave the building and somewhere to meet their friends and have some fresh old-style baked scones. The scones here are delicious and I especially enjoy when they have seasonal-type specials, such as pumpkin! The scone sandwiches are delicious, I have had both the tuna and the goats cheese one and it would be hard to decide which is my favorite. Don’t be fooled by their size, you will be full when you are finished! Brunch is served at the location on Beechwood from 8 to 3 on weekends. The service is friendly, the coffee is good and the atmosphere is relaxed: a great place to spend a winter afternoon reading.

I go here with my friend to catch up as often as I can. Its never too busy, which is nice even though there is plenty of seating. You order, and they usually bring it to your table… kind of like a restaurant, but a coffee shop atmosphere, in that sense. The employees are mostly students when I’m there, although I’m pretty sure Ive seen the«Witch» herself lol. In total, Ive tried the vanilla cream and ginger currant scones… yum! Very decent size for $ 1.90(could change, don’t quote me). The scones I’ve had at other places are no where near as moist. You really can taste the ingredients. it was lightly vanilla and definitely didn’t need butter. The ginger currant scone isn’t too strong, but in no means bland. I was hesitant because I’ve never tried that combination, but the currants were a nice burst of flavor here and there. The hot chocolate is decadent and creamy and relatively priced for a regular sized mug. Interestingly, the peppermint tea Ive had there comes loose leaf in a bag… sleeve…thing. Just hanging out of the pot. Not a crazy difference from a regular bag, but still a nice little twist. For roughly the price of a Starbucks Peppermint Mocha, you can get a scone and tea in a relaxed, pleasant atmosphere with floor to ceiling windows to people watch in the heart of beechwood.
